The ultimate version of the ultimate Ferrari of its time, the 288 GTO was one of the fastest cars on the planet in the late 80s, topping out at over 360 km/h. The car achieved this through bigger turbochargers, which helped the twin-turbo V8 generate 650 hp, a figure Ferrari wouldn’t match in one of its road cars until the Enzo. Some of the design bits also served as a preview for the legendary F40, a car built on fundamentally the same mechanicals.
A distinct Ferrari with alot of history. The F40 was based on what they learned from building this. Evoluzione is one of the wildest looking Ferraris untill Enzo and FXX.
Note: The 288 GTO Evoluzione is an aggressive track model of the base GTO and only six units were produced (five production, one prototype); Ferrari had initially planned to build 20 of these to comply with Group B homologation requirements for Evolution models
Fun fact: The Evoluzione, when first introduced, was also planned to race in Group B, but it never had the opportunity to do that due to the series being cancelled, therefore not being suitable for any other racing series
