Imho the Trial isn’t that big of an issue. It’s a mandatory team race. The team can compensate slower drivers that aren’t able to beat the AI.
Those players may feel bad for not being able to contribute but they have a chance of completing it. In the solo championships they have not.
Even supposing that it should be a challenge, it should merely BE a challenge and not an essentially impossible task. The latter is what it is for anyone who has to manage to be carried through it. Let each be tested according to their ability.
The drivatars in the trials are definitely not set at unbeatable standard. If you compare them to single player events, they are much closer to highly skilled level I would say.
Really, the “ultimate test” wording is badly outdated now. The trials have been dumbed down and it’s very difficult to lose them now. I think the last time I was on a team which lost was the Audi one which must be 6-8 weeks ago.
You should basically just say you’d rather see the Trial gone and Tour take it’s place as the 10pt event then, because without it’s difficulty the Trial would have little reason to exist with Tour now present.
Does seem rather strange to me for you to start saying this after nearly 4 years of the Trial being around though, if it was that bad then you’d think a lot of people would have voiced their concerns by now and as we seen with Seasonal Championships being reduced to Highly Skilled from Expert in FH4 PG would possibly have listened.
I personally think the game already makes enough concessions, more than almost any other game out there.
I wouldn’t miss the Trial if it were removed. This is not, in fact, the first time I’ve said that the game in general should adhere more to the player’s chosen difficulty, either. For me that sentiment started with the Story missions in FH4.
I think I’ve lost the last time when it was the Hoonigan one.
Certainly since the drivertar naming issue it has become rather pointless. No comparison to some of Horizon 4’s Trials.
B700 Buggies Trial where the AI ran 1%er times in the bloody Mavericks.
Don’t get me wrong I agree Jezza, I don’t think they’re at proper Unbeatable difficulty either but since PG have never said anything about a change I’m holding them to it + their own words for advertising the Trial, which it just isn’t anymore.
Plenty of games have something in their content that is a step up in difficulty from the norm and the Trial is just FH’s in my book, it’s already been made easier like you say and I think reducing the difficulty even further would make the mode pointless + a 10pt chore.
Pass the trial 1st time every week (almost), which means that my team passes every week, which means that the average person passes every week over a 4 year period. Some people didn’t get any points, but they passed with my team every time.
There is no problem with the trial in an average team.
If you can win the race you can easily slow the field.
My last team loss was Monday in the 190e. Excluding my score, in race one 2 players were able to pass one drivatar, 3 players passed zero drivatars. It looked like they were trying too so I’m not saying anything negative about them.
The Trial is a test of getting matched in a winning team. Otherwise it would require everyone to contribute. I’ve personally come in last at times from missing a checkpoint, running wide into a building, pushed out by drivatars and players, etc. If the team still wins it’s not really my driving skills being tested. I personally failed.
The Trials and overall unbeatable difficulty in FH4 are much less challenging than it originally was in FH5.
There are a couple of outliers like the buggies one you mentioned or the stock RWD Catterham Trial though.
This week is very hard though so doesn’t really count as an average week.
Race 1 seems to be relatively difficult for some reason. My teams have only won that about 50% of the time. Races 2&3 are very easy though - my teams have won those races every time.
Race 2, Reservorio sprint is a lot easier though in one attempt a drivatar pushed me into the Mulegé arch and another one swerved to block. Just bad timing with it. When enough players passed enough drivatars on the run down to Mulegé the race went well.
Race 3 was easier but I still had mixed results if we got to it.
I generally don’t quit after race 1 but this week I did a couple of times. It was getting to be too much and I was taking it too seriously.
The AI in FH5 is broken. There is a 50+ page thread discussion about it that has video and screenshots that expose how broken the AI is. And I don’t mean, just rubber banding. They don’t follow the same laws of in-game physics players have to which automatically gives them an unfair advantage no matter the difficulty setting.
In addition, the tunes many people download from a lot of popular content creators often abuse physics glitches that allows the car to go faster than they should in order to compete with the physics abusing AI. See the pattern? A lot of people aren’t better drivers. They’re just being given better exploits when they download a popular tune.
All of that aside, when you’re choosing the difficulty for a racing game, it should be one that challenges you, but doesn’t overwhelm you. You should have to fight for the win, but not in a frustrating manner. FH5 doesn’t have this kind of AI balance, unfortunately. It’s always hampered by broken physics, or always leaning toward an extreme vs. a median.
So, it’s not just your lack of skill.
There are a lot of other factors going on that effect the endgame activities like the Trial, and Championship playlists. Do with this info as you will. Knowledge is power.
The AI has to be given some advantages to balance out the advantages the players have.
Rewind can be used to correct mistakes and prevent the AI from overtaking you in many ways. The player doesn’t have to adhere to the driving and braking line like the AI will and finally the player can just straight up take out the AI in corners to get ahead of them.
There wouldn’t be any challenge to any of the difficulties if the AI didn’t have some kind of advantage.
A game without challenge just ends up being boring.
No the ai shouldn’t have an advantage, and some people don’t use rewinds. I haven’t used rewinds for 4 years.
what makes things worse is of you have a LOT of friends & you like to try & beat them.
joining a club with hundreds or thousands of members will make things that much more difficult.
I know there’s a few “club” members i keep cursing while trying to beat them. EVEN if i have the same car I i keep thinking i have the BEST tune for some reason i HAVE to play DIRTY from start to put that AI “club member” in place.
Some stuff in fh5 is definitely harder & i don’t like they changed i need to use X car to complete a task.
That isn’t going to work well in the future with new players when they don’t have the car(s) or $$
If you do the playlist challenges in a strategic order, you can win a car needed to do another challenge etc. Ok you still have to buy cars sometimes but if your racing generally anyway you can usually afford to buy them, or get one with forza points from the seasonal shop.
The trial is relitivly easy in the true stock BMW, but if you tweak the tuning and make the car AWD then it seems easierr still, can easily finish 1st or 2nd every time, but of course some people will see tweaking the tuning as cheating.
