Hi guys, i know this is something that was probably asked milion times, but i dont know what to do anymore, i needed to start topic on my own. I watched milion tutorials over youtube, reading all stuff i could find and im still soooo much bad at drifting. I cannot figure out how to get these cars to roll properly. I tried formula drift cars… c… nothing. Can you please help me out somehow Guys, dont know some car perfect for this, some tunes or something, whatever you think, i will be so helpful. Thanks in advance
I think the biggest thing as someone who has had a lot of struggle drifting in the past is that 15% of drifting is pressing on the e-brake, your not just tapping it but giving it about a second. Don’t just be black and white with the drift, but find a throttle point that gives you ENOUGH hp for the angle, not to much or too little. Same goes with the steering, you may need to be at 1/2 right, not toggle all the way. PLAY IN MANUAL!! It is near impossible to maintain a drift in automatic because you may have reached the correct RPM but then transmission might decide to f*ck you over and shift. Practice drifting side to side on a straight path, this might be useful in the drift-zones but can also help you learn control, practice long shallow drifts and tight aggressive ones. Don’t use Formula drift cars at the start, find a Mazda or other small car with small engine and tune to your liking. A RACE TIREE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DRIFT HOW YOU WANT IT TO, put on smaller street tires on back, and if the front is sliding put wider ones in front. Begin drifting with a front engine car, the weight distribution makes it easy to control for a beginner. Drifting with turbos is ok but be aware of the turbo lag if you are using them. PRACTICE. I hope this helps and good luck.
Drifting is hard until you get the #88 Mustang with the drift tune ‘Ultimate Drift’ the 5 Star tune, then it’s easy!
Basics : you need to be in manual with traction control and stability control switched off …
then you need a car … I would recommend something that is not too aggressive … say something that you can put in 3rd - mash the power and it doesn’t instantly spin out - no need for e brake it has enough power to spin the rear tyres but steering it right to left gives you controllable slides … then control that car on the power
the trouble with using other people tunes is you have no idea about their ability or style … a tune I really like many others will hate for XYZ reason and vice versa.
I tend to only play with RWD … I have a couple of AWD cars but that was only to get the rank in drift adventure … but I think I set the front rear split to 10/90% anyway …I don’t really do AWD
One car I have that is a really stable , controllable drift is a Merc SL65 FE … it was my fave car for a long time and the one I really learned to drift in (I am not top 10 on drift zones or anything like that - I do alright) … given what I have already said about other people’s tunes … you might want to give it a shot if you have that car
I have quite a few ‘off the wall’ drift cars … like Morris minor … Ford Anglia (great little drifter )… Volvo 850 …camaro Z28 with all the regular JDM / BMW cars too
first thing for beginner for drifting, turn off the stability control and put the steering in simulation and keep it in automatic (is possible to drift because automatic don’t shift so fast when you have wheel spinning
when you have more experience you can turn the traction control too
choose a RWD with front engine
then when you try to drift, give not too much acceleration or turn to much the steering, keep always in mind that your front wheel must always have the angle from the direction you want go
you don’t need to use always e-brake, if you give enough power in your rear wheel, they can spin from alone (for example with my BMW M6 FE, I can make it drift when I’m driving at 150mph just by giving full throttle by turning)
try to learn to use weight force, that mean changing fast your direction so the weight make your whell spinning (for example a drift in a left turn before the turn give a full steer direction right and direct a left and with full throttle, your wheel will spin)
First off, don’t worry about it. Practice is the only way. Try doing some of the hourly Forzathon Live events. They normally have a drift run. Watch how other players do it and try to mimic them.
Some drifting techniques include:
Flicking - aim at the apex of the corner with the throttle half open, flick the wheel or joystick left, right (or right, left), boot the throttle full, when it starts to brake away, ease off on the throttle.
You can also blip the throttle to keep the slide going (throttle on/off)
E-brake - Just turn into it and hit e-brake. It depends on the car and road surface as to how long to press it. Sometimes it’s a quick jab, moreoften hold for a second or more till you feel it brake away.
Combine it with flicking works as well.
Contrary to some opinions, I myself drift just fine in automatic, with most cars converted to 4 wheel drive. Much more stable when you’re learning.
Also winter season starts on Thursday. Use a normal car and head out onto a frozen lake. Then practice, practice, practice…
There you go … conflicting opinions … glad we could confuse you more …
FWIW taking an AWD Automatic car onto a frozen lake is not drifting IMHO … but opinions are like aholes … everyone has one , and everyone think everyone else’s stinks but their own
The reason I say manual car is you can leave it in gear and forget about it while you learn… when you get ‘serious’ and do some drifts with a big variety in curve radius you can then think about gear changes …bit not to start with
you shouldn’t need ebrake with a car with decent amount of power and properly set up car
As a practice zone …try the airfield - loads of space to learn to control the drift, feeling what on/off the power does … steering inputs …
Exactly, RWD is the only start.
an AWD can drift too, just that it has 3 <heels how spin and one how has grip lol
try to learn with the BMW M6 FE in manual full update (I have a drift tune for it if you want it) for example I drive in manual in gear 7 and at 70/80mph (120/140 kph) if I give full throttle rear wheel start to spin
AWD is not drifting, it’s for people who can’t drift. He wanted to drift so RWD only.
You can add my gamertag and we can try to get some tandems going. I’ll teach you what I know. I’m not a pro but I do okay lol
