Which ways do you guys save fuel in races? Do they actually work?
The two easiest ways to save fuel that I’m aware of are…
Short shifting. Don’t wind the engine out to redline. Lower rpms means less fuel being burned.
Coasting into the braking zones. Using Road America as an example. Normally you’d be on full throttle until you hit the brakes for T1. If you’re trying to save fuel, let off the gas a bit early before hitting the brakes.
The cost will be that your lap times will be slower so it becomes a comparison on how much time you’ll lose per lap times the number of laps you need to save fuel vs. the amount of time you’ll lose by pitting.
