i am having trouble playing online since i got the game about 2 months ago on my xbox one s,
mostly it returns this dreadful dns resolving error in all online modes
the weird thing is it connects randomly from time to time but no more than maybe 10 times total, i always get disonnected after couple of minutes
my nat type is always open, also the multiplayer test is ok
i used my local isp dns address and also google, cloudflare and opendns addresses and still no resolving.
i have a reliable and fast internet connection and i having no issues at all in playing other games online.
i submitted a ticket a while back and got the reply that this is an issue being investigated by the game devs but i found online posts everywhere dating back almost 2 years in different forza games.
anyone have any idea what could be causing this? or why is the devs is ignoring the issue?
Try to reset your modem. Stick a little pen in the bottom. Not a refresh, you have to reset it. Reset it to the default as if you’re connecting it again for the very first time.
i am using a modem router, fairly new, did the reset anyway for good measure, no change
i tried my old router which had a wireless problem but still works and still the same error, i am on wired connection BTW
i tried about 10 times hitting retry just trying to find a horizon life session
By default it would use the local ISP which yes, ‘should’ work but clearly in this case isn’t, nor are the other ones. Of course, as none of them work it suggests the problem lies elsewhere. The actual DNS is probably a red herring.
I read it as he put in the DNS address manually into the settings on the xbox … I am suggesting he lets the xbox connect to the router using DHCP and have the DNS picked up automatically from the router - not manually forcing an address on it
but maybe I misread it … auto should work better in most cases I would have thought
that is not the case, there is no such messages
the game connects randomly as mentioned in my original post, it might connect one day then nothing for a week or so
Do a total shutdown of your xbox by holding the power button in until it shuts down, unplug the power cable. Leave the xbox off for 10 minutes. Do the same for your router/modem. That worked for me.
Edit: I also switched from wired to wireless but not sure if that also helped fix the problem.
