Can anybody tell me a good track for the Datsun 510?
I’m trying to get to level 25 affinity to all the cars from Japan. The last one I have is Datsun. I have tried tuning it to the max level for E class. No matter where I take it, I can’t seem to get good lap times. May be I should up the car to class D. I am looking for somewhere that I can race the car and feel competitive or at least not the back of the pack.
You’re right, the datsun is pretty slow for leaderboards. It badly needs an engine swap.
However, it’s not a bad racer or lobby car if E class lobbies ever open up.
I did a quick build and tune for the car and put it #28 out of 43,000 at Sonoma short. There’s a good bit more left in the car but called it quits after 5 or so laps. Tune is shared.
Car features low downforce and stock tires. It may be a little faster with less power and first front tire width but I didn’t try it out.
I tried out the tune. It does work well at Sonoma. I tried it a couple of other courses. It does perform well and it is fun to drive compared to my tuning attempts. I’m already at affinity level 15 with Datsun.
I’ve got a B class handling/acceleration (but more handling) 510 that can top 10 Prague, Bugatti Circuit, and potentially others. It’s a solid lobby car mainly though.
I just shared it if you want to try, it’s called “510 of doom”
I’ve been driving the Datsun and found it does well at some other tracks. I’m up to affinity level 20, almost 21. I hope to reach level 25 tonight. I have to admit this isn’t one of my favorite cars but your tune made it somewhat fun to drive.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. I wanted to drive it more but there are no E class lobbies. It’s a car I wouldn’t feel bad about driving online. Not sure if it’ll work on super grippy tracks, but I don’t really like building those kinda cars. Lol.
I dabbled with close to stock E-class version of this car at Lime Rock. In (near) default suspension settings, the car behaved badly - sliding around as if the car was on bicycle tires so I looked into the telemetry screen.
Couple of interesting observations:
Car demands aggressive cambers (-3.0!) because anything less results in positive dynamic camber in a corner. First time that I found telemetry screen to be informative. Is this car like this in real life?!?
Tires also required high pressure to keep the tire rigidity in the reasonable 33 psi range. Used stock tires.
I just want to enjoy the car as is . . . still quite delightful.
