Damaged Car - What are the options?

Apologies if there is an obvious solution for this, I am new to Horizon games so might be missing something.

I play with full simulation damage and sometimes find myself wrapped around a tree or upside down at the bottom of a cliff. This happened in the jungle and my poor M4 could barely move afterwards - it would have been quicker to leave it and walk back.

So my question is - is there anything to do in this situation beyond driving back at pensioner speed? I cannot seem to find a fast travel option, nor anywhere to repair my car except at an event location.

Thanks in advance.

Try turning off sim damage and that should allow your car to drive as normal. At least it should, if it’s like FH2. You can do that by pausing the game, choosing Difficulty/Assists (or something like that), change the damage setting, then resume your game. If you want sim damage back on, repeat those steps provided.Edit: In the full game, you can use Fast Travel to instantly fix your car.

The above definitely works. You can turn it back on right away if you want to continue.

If you want to clean the car up cosmetically, go to photo mode and hit the left bumper. Won’t fix mechanical problems but the outside will look new.

So what you have to do is go to settings>difficulty>damage and tire ware> cosmetic. You can change it then back out, then redo the previous step and put it on simulation. Now I do not recommend simulation, where it does give you a larger amount of credits and experience in the over world where you are just driving around you might hit another car, a rock, or something else, or even be hit by a drivatar. As well you can go into camera mode and fix the cosmetic damage

To all the above: I think you are all misunderstanding what OP is trying to say. If he didn’t want simulation to be on, it never would’ve have been since that’s not how you start the game. He changed it to simulation himself, therefore (at least to my understandings) doesn’t want to put it on cosmetic. When the full game drops and we choose simulation, the last thing we want to do is repair the car by starting an event or change settings, apply them and then change them again.
I’ve been in a similar situation and didn’t know what to do either. Fast travel will be a thing in the full game but is not included in the demo. Some people (including me) found that driving on simulation also drains your fuel reserve. This implies there are going to be gas stations in the full game, which might also serve as repair shops. However, that’s a wild guess for now. No one but an employee can tell you I guess.

True, fast travel would be easier. But for the demo, changing the damage setting then changing it back to simulation is the only way aside from entering an event.

Thanks for the replies everybody.

Changing the difficulty is an interesting idea, but takes away from the immersion. I prefer racing and cruising with simulation damage on as it adds another level of challenge as well as the increase in credits and xp. Amending the settings almost feels like cheating.

Fast travel will probably be the solution in the full game. For now, I guess I’ll have to hobble back to base the slow way!

I fully agree with your reasoning and I was playing the demo several hours with full simulation damage on as well and wanted to post about the exact same thread on this forum.

Apart from fast travelling (which kinda feels like the cheap and cheesy way out of damage TBH) I think there should also be an option to repair and / or refuel your car wherever it is broken or runs out of fuel. It would cost a little bit of credits (about 5k for fuel, 20k for repairs or something) and the time of day would fast forward a couple of hours. This would all simulate that you called a service station and they came out with a service truck to repair your vehicle.

Pretty sure that if you pause, Set it to cosmetic damage, Resume, and re apply sim damage afterwards then it should work.
Don’t quote me on it.

Just like the respawn during races there should be a respawn in free roam if you use simulation damage but crash so bad the car doesnt want to move. I dont understand why free roam has it removed just like in fh2

I just wish the game would at least tell what’s damaged when it’s damaged.

Call me a filthy casual, but for horizon i turn even cosmetic damage off: for me its all about the fantasy of bombing around the countryside in supercars rather than having to be careful about not cracking the windscreen or losing a mirror.

Guys,
I turned simulation damage and riding around map. After a while fuel indicator was fully on E…
So I though that’s not working until my car stopped and I wasn’t able to continue driving.
My next idea was that If I turn off damage It will be allright. No way… That was much better, because I was able to drive but It was intermitting during accelerate.
Everything has just fixed when I entered the race.
No I am curious how will they solve this aspect in the full version of game. I think If they were up to introduce petrol stations to the franchise, they would include this in demo cuz it’s cool IMO.

Sorry for my English, but I hope You will understand what I mean.
