DALLARA SP1 (2001 - 2005)

  • SP1 - V8 Mopar 6.0L [2001]

  • SP1 - V10 Judd 4.0L [2002 → 2003]

  • SP1 - V10 Judd 4.0L [2004 → 2005]

The story of the Dallara SP1 began in 2001.
Thanks to a partnership between Dallara and Chysler, the SP1 was born with its 6.0-liter Mopar V8 engine, in an attempt to win the famous Le Mans 24-hour race in the LMP900 category against Audi, Bentley, Panoz and Cadillac.
For its first participation, Team Oreca entered not one, not two, but 3 cars. The #15 finished 4th overall, while the #14 and #16 had to retire.
In 2002, still entered by Team Oreca, the 2 cars made a clean sweep with 5th and 6th places, behind the Audis and one of the Bentley Speed 8.

In 2002, one of the Dallara SP1s with chassis #DO 004 was bought by the “Doran-Lista racing” team and entered for the 2002 Daytona 24 Hours, which it brilliantly won by 6 laps from 2nd place.
This was the best result ever for the dallara SP1, as its best result in the 24h of Le Mans was 2 5th places.
It will be entered in the ALMS in 2023 by the same team, where it will race in the first 3 rounds of the championship before being withdrawn.

Following Chrysler’s withdrawal, the car was fitted with a new engine, the famous 4.0-litre V10 Judd, and was subsequently entered by the Rollcentre racing team.
In 2004, the Rollcentre racing team made the acquisition of two SP1s (Chassis # DO 004 and #DO 006)! One for the ALMS and the other for the Le Mans Endurance Series.
Unfortunately, in the 24h of le mans it retired in 2004 and finished 16th overall in 2005.

In 2005, the Rollcentre team entered 2 cars, before having to put them in the garage following a change in the LMP class regulations.

Even today, several of these cars are still running, notably in historic races.

  • Why have the Dallara SP1 in forza motorsport ?

Because it’s a car that you don’t see in video games, that won the Daytona 24 hours and that we saw a lot of during the LMP revival in the 2000s.
An open proto that would also fit perfectly into the “Early LMP” category.
Not to mention the incredible sound of the V10-Judd !

Two vidéos from youtube to see the SP1 in action with the magnificent sound of the V10-Judd !

Thanks for reading. :slightly_smiling_face:
