Content Concerns & Melodrama

Agreed. While acknowledging that in a competitive race, the standard measure for success is faster=win, there are more than just three or four ways to get there. In H3, both the RS200 and Boneshaker were among my favorite vehicles. In H4, while still tugging my heart strings, I totally avoid using them (including the Hoonigan RS200) - not necessarily because they’re comically overpowered, but because nearly every online adventure (and many leaderboards) are over saturated with these things. Life (of this game) is too short to only run a Hoon RS200 & a ‘Shaker. Or a Hoonigan Boneshaker. (Ugh, can you imagine? H5, no doubt…) AMC

I don’t think it’s fair to rip on a feature because you already own the rewards, or because it is your personal opinion that it’s a laundry list.

You may want to consider that there is a huge number of players, probably consisting of the majority of the playerbase - that has not “completed” the game, that has not earned every car, and more importantly, that cannot put in a time investment because of real life circumstances. For those players, this feature is very useful, and knocking down the requirement from 100% - virtually unattainable for people who don’t have serious free time on their hands (or people with no xbox live) to 80% did not silence the “vocal majority” (which is a mistake in itself, I think the person meant “vocal minority”) but rather made the game playable for the silent majority.

I also completed everything in this game, I find the playlist useful and fun. I don’t play it for the rewards, I play it for the fun. If the only way to be motivated to play this game is rewards, then mayhaps you’re the one with the problem and not the game.

Actualky, yeah, I totally CAN rip on a feature — excuse me, brand NEW feature — already serving up redundant vehicles as a reward for spending MY time completing mindless and mundane chores. (Perhaps you had joyfully checked out while the recent anti-freeroam rush campaign was in full swing?) And had you bothered to actually read what I wrote, you’d have seen in literally the very first sentence of the very first post in this thread, that I had originally accepted the playlist with open arms, all gung-h o when every one else was free to rip all over it right out of the gate. It’s only just now that I am growing unhappy with the playlist, with MY time and how I want to use it being key.

Like you, I have not finished the game completely, nor do I possess every car, and more importantly, nor do I care at all what either your time restraints or real life circumstances are. I could never care! Why should I respect your time management when you dismiss mine? Yeah, the playlist as a function, as a tool, sure it’s useful. It consolidated season activities in an attractive and sensible manner. I’ve already said this and reinforced this. It’s functionality is not the issue! The issue is why bother putting myself thru all of its redundancy and carbon copied events for MY TIME that you casually dismiss to be rewarded with reruns? I’d rather not. If it’s all still razzle dazzle ooh la la for you and not yet stale, go for it! I’m happy you enjoy it. I can only do the same thing repeatedly only so many times before I fall asleep w controller in hand, but, I guess we’re back to the “rules for thee, but not for me,” tack, right?

And this next bit is important, so be sure you are free of real life circumstances for the next few seconds, but I already reinforced that my “content concerns” (notice the post title tie-in? Hint: relevant) are sparked not only by my waning interest in the this playlist of chores I’m already bored of doing, now the games centerpirce feature, but also with my freak outs over allllll the things that I have LOVED but have now been broken if not partially or completely removed from the game altogether, already reinforced and itemized above. THATS where my motivation for playing this game are, now largely dead and buried, so yeah Id say the problem is definitely with the game. Thanks so much for your time.

I applaud the OP for echoing his sentiments, in fact to the point I couldn’t agree more with 90% of his bold statements. I’m the older, more casual gamer with a claim to being, not so great at the game but choosing to wring the game to choking point of its short cummings and so-called new content. The festival playlist was a great concept, but PG are just using this to polish you know what. So a new season starts, you go into the playlist and low and behold its the same old same old. Its structure is to keep you playing for as long and frequently as possible which, to be honest, requires 2 hours per all events of your time plus the daily which requires you to play the next time you fire up your console/PC. Ok so far not so interesting until you look at the given rewards. For all you older folk out there do you remember sticker albums? "got that, got that, don’t want that, need that. The playlist has become a mish-mash, regurgitation of cars nobody really wants other than bragging rights. I don’t need 4 drift cars with the same cosmetics and HP that basically do the same job. Really PG? How many Mini’s can one person own and drive? Don’t get me wrong I’m a Brit and old school mini’s are an institution, newer models let’s just say BMW and please don’t go there! Why not introduce a system where the rewards could be a random game of chance. Either you roulette a rare 812 or drop a shambolic rust bucket? At least it gives you the element of a reward and you can keep on doing the same event until you get the car you’re after then you are locked out of gaining another reward (for Auction exploitation purposes) but can still run as a co-op so your driving buddy can claim his/her reward. It will bring players back doing what they love and that is driving and being rewarded for it. Credits have become obsolete, wheelspins need a revamp. I would like to see Special wheelspins just for event completions on Unbeatable to get rare rewards, not supers where you get a 5,000, another 5,000 and a car already in your garage. The rinse and repeat policy will only work if you have something to aim for. Put in the time and pull out the reward is a fair enough assumption. Enough of the monotony. I think by now everybody has a boneshaker and to place the car everybody wants further down the seasons is your way of exploiting your player base to waste time on mediocre cosmetics to bide their time until the shiny shiny appears. I agree with the OP that misfortune Island needs more playability. Barn finds would be somewhat difficult as the lack of playing area inhibits such but surely your imagination can run wild and think of another process to implement. Why have seasonal events or similar just stopped on Fortune Island? Myself personally I visit the Island for a little drifting and maybe the odd new speed trap that rears up once in a blue moon. So much wasted potential there. The creative hub was another consensus issue that was raised. It took far too long for blueprints to be fixed and even now I would like to see more fine tuning integrated, hopefully in a future title. If you enjoy the game for what it is then that is all fine and dandy. For FH4 gamers looking for a little more variety then I understand wholeheartedly. It’s a fine balance between playing a game for fun with friends and delving a little deeper and wanting more. You cannot please everybody without upsetting another,so peoples opinions are not gospel it’s just an opinion they would like to share.I cannot afford to give out free prescriptions for this massive wall of text so I can only offer my humblest apologies.

Thank you, kindly. It is truly appreciated.
(And I do love a good wall of text, too :ok_hand:t2:)

Sorry, Squryl, I don’t have time to create another wall of text, so I will keep it simple: BRAVO! I agree with what you wrote and support your position. Thank you for taking the time to create the post.

Sometimes, some things just need to be said for the betterment of all.

And thank you, Richietea2007 for taking the time to post your well thought out and very articulate supporting response.

Personally, I don’t mind all the mindless tasks you have to do in these playlists. The thing really grinds my gears is that this thing restricts you on Everything you have to do. You can’t just use your favourite car, or I can’t use a car I like. I’m currently doing the Ferrari S2 championship and I’m finding it as enjoyable as watching paint dry, it is not fun to me in the slightest, and I know, personal preference, but this My opinion. Sue me.

There is hardly any time I can complete Any challenge in these horrid things in a car I actually like, or want to drive. Even the danger signs and speed traps, they all require you to be driving something at least top end of A class to get the target required. This is where 95% of my burnout comes from with this game, every month is like ‘oh yay, time to go and see what challenges I’ve got to do in a bunch of cars I don’t want to drive, to get A car I want’. I could complete hundreds of these ‘challenges’ and championships and enjoy it if it was using cars I like and want to use.

Like a previous post said, one of my favourite cars in this game is the Crown Vic, spent ages trying to get it, and not once have I been able to use it in one of these playlists (without upgrading it to the point where it isn’t a Crown Vic anymore)

I want to stress, my gripe is not with the playlists themselves, it’s the restrictions applied to them. I really dislike the direction this game is going in. But this is Forza ‘live service’ Horizon 4, guess I’ve got to put up or shut up.

Very well said, I echo your frustrations with event restrictions. If they hadn’t done the same thing to Rivals (what’s left of it), and I was going through all these seasonal events in cars I enjoyed, I’d probably be content regardless of the rewards (which I think I’m focusing on more currently because I’m so dissatisfied with the events and hating what I have to drive in them).

Since FH4 is my first Forza game, I was curious how you would change Rivals.
Personally, I remember back to 2001 playing Motor City Online. Because of the high internet latency 18 years ago, it was nearly impossible to race online against live opponents. So, all the racing was against ghost drivers (except Demolition Derby, which was basically a last-man-standing Online Adventure). One could race any car on any track at any time and their times were logged and sorted so you could always see how you fared versus cars of the same type and class…and race conditions (dry, rain, track mirrored, reversed etc.). Prizes (cash money) were dealt based on how high you finish compared to others. If you wanted to earn more money you did not have to go up in type or class, you simply had to get better with whatever you wanted to drive. There was always the option to play solo (or with 4 live online ghost racers). These ghost racers in no way interfered physically with your current race, but it was fun to compete and you could always learn by watching the driving lines of better drivers. At any time, you could create a new race that was publicly playable… so many folks enjoyed making niche races (ie: 1000+ hp on ice). If no one played it, the rewards were low… if it became very popular, the payouts became huge. Every month the races were all reset.

I know my memory isn’t great for all the specific MCO details, but the above is how I would like to see FH4 create a Rivals-like environment. It would allow me to have more satisfaction racing the ton of cars FH4 has thrown at us…as I think that currently there are just too many FH4 cars & classes that aren’t getting as much love as they should. In the meantime, I will continue to race what I want to race and record my results in a 3-ring binder, which is already full to overflowing. It would certainly be nice if the game had more built-in support tracking races by class/type/environment. I am a fan of FH4’s Seasonal Championships, but to have only three new per season seems horribly limiting considering the amount of cars and venues available in-game. How about giving us 6 new championships per season? How about giving us access to past Seasonal championships? I don’t even need big rewards (just enough to finance the car I just built or a Top 25 bonus at season end)… new/interesting competition and a leader board list would be great.

In recent Forza’s, each route/circuit/trail/etc. had a leaderboard for each playable class (w some exceptions, such as none for X in H3) and without any restrictions. None of this “Muddy Monsoon Cross Country Circuit/C Class/Abarth 595 Esseesse” -only nonsense. Restricted events like that would appear in the Monthly Rivals, and there would be 5 or 6 of those. And it wasnt necessary to compete solely thru rivals, the boards would automatically populate with a players best online times as well.

Well said Squryl!

I gave up the fight some time ago, and have stopped playing the game. The missing endgame, and PG’s smug livestreams have killed any desire to continue jumping through mindless hoops to claim new cars that I’ll never use.

If PG eventually get round to adding class based event leaderboards and Rivals I’ll return.

I detest with a passion those who ‘Ooh but all these updates are free!! You’re just an entitled brat for complaining!!’

Being punched in the face or having a dog dump on your lawn is also free, should I be expected to accept them gladly and say thank you?

Anyone remember when games had enough content on them at launch that they didn’t need pointless updates adding little insignificant things to try and keep players going back because the base game on it’s own was enough to keep players engaged until the next iteration or an expansion came out?

Or take a look at the GTA franchise, people are still playing San Andreas to this day, GTA 4 had no updates adding 2 cars a week and some clothes, it gave us The Lost and Damned + TBOGT (not sure if I can say the title on here), 2 expansions that contained enough quality content that they could have released as full games, still has many many players.

Meanwhile who’s going to care about GTA 5’s hundreds of irrelevant and tiny free updates once 6 is released?

Just wait for the second expansion.

Hmm, after seeing the incomplete, unpolished, and largely ignored first expansion that was delivered, I don’t think I’ll be holding my breath. But I hope you’re right; perhaps whatever gets released will be transformitive, engaging, and satisfying.

Bring back the PS1, N64, C64, Sega Genesis/MegaDrive, Atari 2800, etc, days when all you had was the disc/tape/cartridge. Bugs were fixed prior to sale. No nickel and diming, as everything you needed was included already. No day 1 patches or day 1 DLC either.

Except when they weren’t, and then you were stuck with them. They were far smaller, simpler games and they still managed to get released with bugs from time to time. Of course the larger and more complex games of today are going to have bugs - it’s inevitable. The ability to fix those bugs after release is not the root cause of them, but rather a merciful boon that occasionally goes sideways.

Except, I imagine most of us never encountered the bugs, realised it, or remember them.

Because the human brain is buggy as heck and can’t be patched, too. Sonic the Hedgehog randomly flying off screen was probably more common than the alleged invisible wall glitch in this game that I’ve personally never encountered, however. Super Mario liked to get stuck. And then there’s that DC fighting game where Cheetah could one hit KO anyone out of the air. Ms. Pac-Man on the Atari 5200 - the ghosts would infinitely go into flash mode when you eat a super pellet when you got far enough along. Those are some I remember, I’m sure there’s more that I’ve forgotten or managed to avoid. It’s enough to keep me from falling prey to rose-tinted nostalgia on this particular issue, at least.

Never saw any of those bugs. I never really got a badly bugged game in that era… I worked on games then. Elite is considered one of the best games of all time, and that was basically the Auction house used to its best solution.

Go back and play them then
There’s nothing stopping you

Enjoy the terrible graphics and permanent bugs and glitches
