Cheers Manteo.
But this information really needs to be in-game, this forum is only now used by a handful of players.
I shall now print this out for furture reference, thanks again Manteo really helpful post.

If you hit ‘manual upgrade’ then it’ll give you a PI limit before letting you build the car yourself.
Unfortunately there’s no way to see the qualifying stipulations of each series so you’re stuck with the limited mostly garbage cars the game makes you drive.
Thank you guys for the replies! The “Career: Stories of Motorsports” section is very helpful. Where’s the best place to go find information like this?
I’m surprised that each racing class for each division doesn’t specify the requirements…

Right here at FM.net, of course. ManteoMax is a Trojan when it comes to collecting useful bits of information. This thread may provide you with what you need:
Thank you guys! I’ve been wondering what the deal was with the classes when I didn’t go over the limit for each class but was informed that it was overpowered. I ended up starting a race checking the line up to see what the competitors were running and then going back to build something in that parameter.
Note the bolded classes next to some of the Divisions listed above. You were trying to use a car at A700 and the limit on the Executive Heavyweight division in career is A650.
So as I’m playing thru the career I’ve noticed that there are no guidelines listed for what makes a cars upgrades “illegal”. It doesn’t actually even list the performance index of the series you’re racing. I prefer to tune and upgrade a car so I can hop into multiplayer or rivals, but using the setup that they force me into kinda sucks. Whatever happened to telling us before we entered a series what the rules are? Or am I completely missing it somewhere?
Example: currently entered into the Grand Touring Timberland Series. Assuming that the max PI is S800 because some of the already upgraded cars have that as their PI rating. However, when I built my S800 SRT Viper it says the current car is eligible but when I select the car it says illegal upgrades
Any advice?
seems like i remember when you select a car and it prompts you with that message. one of the options listed will allow you to see what the max pi is allowed. its either auto upgrade or manual upgrade that you temporarily select.
See the FAQ post for Stories of Motorsport.
I just have to vent for a second. I paid for the top of the line version of forza 6 and I can’t choose which races I want to play even after I’ve completed the career mode? I’m at the mercy of playing tracks in the order of the career mode? That means if I want to run at Brands Hatch in that series with that division/ class car I have to play at the 3 tracks BEFORE I get to that one to play? And I can’t eliminate racing cars from the S class in free play? Is anybody else upset about this?
Yeah, I’m totally with you on that one. Really strange choice of career structure, especially when there’s nothing actually linking the races in a series together; no championship points or such. We should absolutely be able to replay individual races.
It wouldn’t be so bad if we could specify car type on free play… For instance, if I want to run X class at Road America, it would be nice to be able to select only F1 cars, because the system seems to mostly match you against Indy cars. Any way at all to make that sort of selection would be nice.
I am definitely sharing some of the frustration regarding career mode.
So limited, and it bugs the hell out of me that we can’t have a Forza 4 grid system. Wouldn’t be so bad if free play actually gave some options… I seem to start at the front of the grid every time and can’t change it. Where’s the fun in that?!
Such a great game in many ways, but they surely have to patch the race options…
- Am I missing something or is the only way to play by going through the stories of Motorsport?
Yes. There is no Events List or anything like previous Forza titles.
- once in a story and selecting a series, you get to choose from six car types. Can you go back and replay series In a different car type?
Yes, instead of clicking on the big box that has your current series, you can go to Stories of Motorsport and select any volume you have already played and play it again.
- am I blind or does the PI for each series not appear anywhere? Would love to know that Night Series is limited to A 660 before choosing a car
Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell what the PI for each series is. I do believe someone has a list of the PI for each series, as well as the cars for each category.
If you select to manually upgrade a car for the series, it will inform you what the PI restriction for that series is.
The career mode leaves much to be desired. I’ve engineered my own sort of career mode utilizing the Free Play, but it’s far from ideal.
Guys how do you find out before a race what the car restrictions are?
Just started a modern GT series after upgrading my car only to be told it’s no longer eligible so all upgrades got removed but I can’t find anywhere where it states the limits before the series or race.
Should say at the bottom right off the screen press x restrictions.
When I first select the series I usually jump in the ‘buy car’ menu. All the selections will be auto upgraded to the restrictions for that series.
Then I back out to the main menu and buy the stock version of the car I want.
You can also buy a stock car, join the series and it will warn you that you are not competitive. Choose manual upgrade and it will tell you the restriction number before sending you to the upgrade menus.
Good luck!
I’m pretty sure it tells you during the intro to each series. But i’ve not seen it anywhere else. I have only had 1 warning about eligibilty, and that was due to a bug I think. I was told 660 PI restriction, car showed 660 PI, but wasn’t allowed. Removed prop shaft upgrade, car still showed 660 PI and went through. Think it might have been like 660.4 PI or something. lol
Does the career mode ever go a Grid setup where you can pick and choose your race series like in the past, or does it always stay in the structured path forcing you to race series after series?
I agree with others, they should clearly show the race restrictions without having to go to more screens to “find out”. This, to me, is a glaring omission. Bottom right of the screen, hit “X” for race restrictions, problem solved.
Other than using the handy chart provided, I’ve just select the series and go to buy cars. This tells which which cars can be used and the max PI because they are already tuned to the restriction. I don’t buy them then, I go back out and go to the regular buying so I get the stock version and upgrade it my own way.
