Black Friday Deals - #Forzathon Shop Discussion Thread

I refuse to take a vacation day or to call sick just because PG didn’t make all the cars available for the whole period.

@Sfumato A 3 hours window is very limited when it’s the only time one can get a car. I really want the Apollo, but I’ll be missing out on it because I’ll be at work during that window. It’s the same thing for cars I would have to wake up when I need to sleep. Stuff like this can be easily avoided if a) The Forzathon shop wasn’t as basic b) The shop rotated everything 15 minutes.

Apologise for my delayed responses, I was away all of last week. If I’ve missed anything, feel free to ask me again.
I’m going to try and cover all topics posted.

@yerfdog65 - Thanks for providing the PO information

I can give you kudos for that!

Maybe one day I can dream that Twitter will have an Edit button. And that I should always proof read my proof reads. Thanks for spotting this.

We have quite a big player base that is global. No matter what time or dates we schedules the cars, there would always be some players unable to get them and we are aware of this.
As much as we’d love to, we can’t have everything available to everyone at the same time.
We have taken all your feedback regarding this and will consider it if we doing anything similar in the future.

Then we wouldn’t have been able to provide you all with so many different types of cars! It would just potentially become a normal #Forzathon Shop.
For example, If we had a car deal lasting 24hours, you would only be able to buy 2 cars over the Black Friday timeframe. Instead we made 16 cars available in the deals which gave everyone more change of there being a car they needed. We also gave you all the information in advance to help as requested too, as we aware this helped you all.

The #Forzathon shop only has a certain amount of items in it at once.
Each of the cars in the sale were specifically chosen and also there’s future things to come.
As we said “We’re not done yet…” - A good example is our Advent Calendar which can be seen on our Twitter where we are giving away a free car every day through December as a gift from us to you.

The support site is a good source for help with issues like this.
I’d check here for the general service statuses.
This article should help with troubleshooting different network issues as sometimes it could potentially be related to your Network status.

But there’s a solution for that: add more boxes! Even the current Shop has two slots, one of them was used only for the Chevy Colorado and could have worked the same way as the first. Also the Fiat Dino was awarded in a Playlist event yet took a slot in the Black Friday list, which didn’t make any sense.

I can’t help but feel sometimes FH4 is made as it goes along, like a TV show. At the beginning we were supposed to get exclusive content through the Shop only, now we have the Playlist alongside the Shop and if you add more car slots to the Shop you end up making the Playlist redundant. On the other hand, Playlist is redundant in and out of itself if you already own the cars…

There are ways to make the Forzathon Shop more diverse but all depends on what’s the team’s and Microsoft’s goals with the game. If the idea is to continue distributing cars majorly through the Playlist, then the Shop will be relegated to a secondary way to get the cars and not much can be done about it.

The Shop as equivalent to Specialty Dealer in FM7 is good, but two cars is too little given the number of exclusives… Maybe if Playlist events gave points as rewards, with bigger rewards for certain events, you could have a selection of 5-6 cars cycling in the Shop, but don’t expect to make old players spend FP on them, as people already have the content.

Lowering Wheelspin prices would also be appreciated. I recall the team saying prices went up because people didn’t spend their points. Then came December and Super Wheelspins become more expensive and in limited quantity. Sure, the cars would be mostly redundant, but money is always useful.

Technical limitations of the Forzathon shop aside (which are their own issue, seems kind of silly how few items it can list at any one time), why did you limit yourselves to the just 2 days? A lot of shops offer Black Friday sales lasting all week, which would have allowed for longer windows for each car and a lot less player frustration.

In terms of each car being specifically chosen, how did the Fiat Dino end up being available on the Black Friday sale AND a weekly seasonal simultaneously? Comes across as a bit sloppy, like internal teams aren’t communicating their vehicle availability schedules.

With the Camaro PO, you know that this is the very first time this car has been widely available, yet you restricted to just a 3 hour window. It was at the end of the sale, why couldn’t it have been put up for 24 hours? This would have sidestepped much of the frustration as the other vehicles are at least generally obtainable in the AH. The Camaro PO won’t really be available with the low AH value discouraging players from putting it up for sale, and how most players who did get it are going to be hanging onto it for dear life with the future availability of PO vehicles being a big question mark.

I’m not a fan of locked/exclusive vehicles in general (still feeling burned by you guys with how poorly you handled FH3 with leaving all the new cars permanently locked and unavailable once Forzathons ended), but if you plan on doing events like this in the future, make sure that there’s a clear plan for making the vehicles available again in the future and communicate it with the player base. Otherwise you’re just encouraging addictive behavior of “must get the car now since it might not ever be available again” and breeding resentment against yourselves. All vehicle/cosmetic exclusivity is completely arbitrary, if you really wanted to do something nice for the player base you could gift the new cars/outfits to all players (or better yet, add them to the autoshow) and set up events each week to enjoy the new content instead of using exclusivity as a carrot to coerce players into logging in and jumping through hoops, wasting a lot of (at least in my case limited) game time unlocking the new stuff instead of being able to enjoy it.

Black Friday is Friday 29th November 2019. But we chose to cover a 48 hour period so that we cover every timezones Friday.

Please see my “Why didn’t you just schedule X car for the whole day” quote as this may help answer your question

Whilst we can’t tell you openly which cars will or won’t be available (as that would ruin the fun), but there is always a chance for any car to be available again in the future.

Fun for who??? In the seven years I have been actively playing Forza games, this past weekend’s event was, imho, the single worst I have seen.

What sort of event would you be looking for? I’d love to hear more feedback on things you’d like to see.

I really liked VS themed community championship put together from forums and maybe that could be done again with a bit different twist.

This is based on that we have had developers turn Road Racing custom blueprint to Street Race few times.

For Weekly Playlist Custom championship: Theme “The Marathon of Edinburgh”

Synopsis: Creating Street Scene city race equivalent to Colossus Road Race

  • One route only
  • Street Scene
  • Must include “The Monument Wynds” Street Race
  • Can’t start or end at the same locations as “Monument Wynds”
  • Location in Edinburgh / city outskirts.
  • Length preferably about the same as “The Colossus” Road Race
  • Could be traditional point to point Street Scene race or similar Circuit design as Marathon
  • Tests S1+, RWD, Unbeatable (or just Anything Goes)
  • Actual race on lower class *

Using sections from existing races can’t be avoided, but experience that allows players to discover something new from the map would be preferred at the same time route should be accessible in similar manner to existing Street Scene events in game. Developers achieved that without using props, blueprinters should aim to achieve that too.

Besides having perhaps a great race, focusing to single work with restrictions might help us on forums reward custom blueprinters better, focusing to single race might engage community more than previous effort with multiple routes (which turned out to really good events though) and it would really be something quite special since we don’t actually have Colossus equivalent for Street Scene.

For developers side, having some things preset might creating event everybody likes. Also, nobody is going to miss props, since there aren’t any in Street Scene.

  • Street Scene events on playlist has been source of lot’s of complaints but maybe this could be used to test the waters if same things that applied to the C-class, B- and A-Class Trials would apply to this, there hasn’t been much complaining and for my experience giving most of few past trials 10 goes or more, races have been a lot better than on higher classes. I have had fun with lot’s of other players doing the same. Street Scene is tricky, but as Community Champ, difficulty would be just Highly Skilled.

If everything would go all right, this might be repeated for Dirt Racing events.

I don’t want 2 - 3 event Community / Developer championships to go away, but this IMO could be something different.

About cars. There’s visual side of things beyond having a poster car in garage. In the near future having Toyota’s in event lineups makes festival more complete experience. Then there’s experiences like from current playlist (S16 Autumn Rod’s and Customs C-Class “An Act of Rod”). Let’s take '49 Mercury Coupe and '52 Hudson Hornet for example. Mercury had V8 engine, Hudson had inline 6, yet Hudson was lighter and more maneuverable car. I did my 10 runs on this trial with 4 cars, including Merc and Hudson and Hudson with stock engine was there with Merc. So work done to model these cars, not only the looks but physics, enable that great Horizon experience for some of us and is work very much appreciated. We of course need cars, but the hook isn’t in the garage, but on roads.

Edit: Four cars used on Trial, forgot the Cadillac.

I should have been more specific. The event, in and of itself was not the issue. In fact, it could have been a very good event. It was the execution of the event that made it terrible in my mind. Seeing as how the only car I needed was the PO Camaro, it really didn’t affect me near as much as others. The whole idea of having the cars available for only 3 hrs each (regardless of the time of day, or the day itself), could not have been much fun for those looking to add a good number of them to their collection.

It just seems to me that much of how Horizon 4 is structured, in terms of rewards, is set up so that players need to play nearly every day (or at least once every three days when it comes to Forzathons), and to what end? To boost some statistics on the back end?

As an example, I do turn my console off completely when I have finished a session. It often takes longer to boot up to the game than it takes to do the daily events, especially when those events are things such as ‘get 1 wreckage’ ‘do 2 air skills’ etc.

These are just a couple of observations from a long time player who has logged a massive number of hours in each of the Forza games from FM2 through to FH4.

Now as to what would really excite me, I look back to FH1, which remains my most favorite of all the Forza games. A return of the 1000 Club (or was it the Club 1000) was brilliant, where you needed to do several tasks, specific to each and every car in the game.

Another of my favorites, was a weekly contest, that really wasn’t even part of the game main game, called The Scavenger Hunt. I believe it was put on by one of our moderators. Each week, starting around the 6 month anniversary or so of the game, he would tell us what to look for and we would have to post a picture of our car at the location. This was probably the most fun I had each week in the game.

I’ve seen you all have suggested some pretty interesting ideas and I’ll take all of these on board for the future!

Don’t forget, if you have any more ideas or things you’d like to see, you can suggest them here.

I realize this wasn’t specifically directed at me, but my feedback is that I would like to see events similar to FM7’s bounty hunter, and creative races/championships that utilize vehicles that aren’t commonly used (you have all the metrics needed to see which cars don’t get used much). Especially for lower class vehicles, I very much enjoyed the D class championship this week. Don’t forget that Fortune Island and LEGO Valley also have some neat terrain for custom routes and include them in future events as well (and maybe even add some trailblazer events to the mainland).

Also, more community challenges with custom routes, photos and liveries would be appreciated.

Pretty much anything where the focus is more on using the massive car roster we already have rather than constantly adding more vehicles that we really don’t have anywhere to use other than repeating the same content over and over.

I know what day Black Friday is, that still doesn’t answer my question of why you guys chose to do a highly compressed schedule over just 2 days instead of extending it over the whole week if your goal really was to make cars available.

For the Camaro PO, like I said it was already at the end of the sale (and was replaced by a filler car before the first advent calendar vehicle), putting it up for longer would NOT have affected the schedule.

Not knowing when I might (or might not) be able to get a vehicle is not my definition of fun. Fun for me is trying out new cars and creative events, not playing a silly game of waiting on the whims of the devs to offer a vehicle again.

(As an aside, thanks for what you’ve been doing with interacting with the community. I know you’re a liason and don’t really make the decisions that frustrate players, but you are often the one who gets the brunt of the frustration and have to do positive PR spins on sometimes poor decisions as part of your job.)

Ok, I’m going to need to learn something here or at least gain some info.
PO car is a pre order car?
Am I’m getting that correct ?
Are all the PO Cars listed in the title (as it would appear) in my garage as Preorder?
such as,
DB11 preorder car
2017 aston martin

If they are all not listed in the title as such, How would I know if I had one?

I see these reference’s to a PO Chevy, A PO Porsche, etc…

And, Were there different PO Cars depending on where you pre-order the game from?

Thanks…
Steve

PO is Pre Order They show up as Pre Order in your garage and PO in the Auction House.

2017 Aston Martin DB11 Preorder Car from GameStop
2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Preorder Car from Best Buy
2017 Ford Focus RS Pre Order - Unknown and currently unavailable
2018 McLaren 720S Preorder Car from Microsoft Store
2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R Preorder from Mixer giveaway

Nice post. I’ve given up on the Ford Capri FE but don’t yet own the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 Pre Order, 2017 Ford Focus RS Pre Order and 2018 McLaren 720S Preorder Car. Hopefully PG will make them available in due course.

With Black Friday I suppose they are trying to generate some excitement and participation, a bit like when one of the major stores was having a sale and some people queued all night to get the bargains.

The problem is many cars can be obtained in the Auction House at bargain rates or are already owned by players and Time Zones. It’s not really fair if players live in a zone which make it inconvenient or impossible for them to take advantage of the sales.

Don’t forget guys that 12 PM Thursday GMT is 11PM Thursday Australian Time (Sydney).

Set alarms for those that I don’t have - hopefully I’m not busy at those times

Thanks for the post and all the contributions from the rest of ya!
