Audio Bug: No Engine Sounds

I’ve been playing the game with no major issues up till today. Now I have suddenly lost all engine audio completely. All other audio seems to be unaffected, the ambient sounds, collisions, tire noise, music and menu sounds are all still there.

I’ve checked the in game levels, tested multiple audio playback devices and settings and reset the game through the “Apps and Features” menu but the problem still persists. I’ve restarted the game multiple times, entering and exiting events, changing between fortune island the main map and changing cars multiple times but nothing ever gives me engine sounds.

Has anyone else had this bug or found a fix for it? I’ve seen several videos and posts on other forums with the same exact issue but no word of a fix yet. It’s quite game breaking.

My current game version is 1.228.387.2 on windows 10 PC for reference.

I’m getting this problem now too on W10.

I did get it before, when drawing a custom route for an event, after looking at the map, I’d come back to driving and there’d be no engine sound, a pause and resume would sort it out. Now though I can’t get it working. I don’t seem to have tyre noises either.

I have just moved the game from my hdd to ssd, can’t see why that should stop the engine sounds though. Wonder if it’s a winter season glitch?

Really don’t want to have to redownload the game either.

Exact same issue here. Also moved my game from 1 SSD to another.

Played a championship with a reliant robin with all sounds, no issues. Then at the end the championship won animation sequences were cut short. After that I have all sounds except the sounds that the car would make. So no engine sounds, tire sounds, crash sounds, etc.

Am also using W10 build 1809 and the latest version of the game: 1.228.387.2

UPDATE: Fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling (including the redownload of 68 GB) on the SSD.

Thanks for the helpful replies!

That’s very interesting, I also moved the game to an SSD recently and I don’t think I had played it since until now so looks like we all have a common cause of the issue. It seems the game doesn’t like being moved drives.

Thanks for mentioning that an uninstall/reinstall fixed this issue, looks like I’ll have to do that as well. I had hoped doing a ‘reset’ would be equivalent.

The windows store really needs to introduce a ‘validate and repair’ option for big games like this like all other big DRM clients offer, that would probably allow us to fix issues like this without having to delete and redownload an entire 70GB.

I’ve uninstalled mine for the moment, got a new SSD coming and don’t want to have to redownload again when that arrives.

I even tried taking control of the game folder, and deleting some of the files from the audio folder, but it doesn’t seem to check/validate files and didn’t throw any errors when I tried to use the car that I’d deleted the sound files for.
I wanted to try copying the files away, uninstalling the game, reinstalling then copying the files back into the new folder, but it won’t let you copy any of the game files, won’t even let you open them either.

+1 on that squishy, really not looking forward to having to download the whole thing again.

Hi all,

I have the same problem here. Moved the game from HDD to SSD to reduce the stuttering I got frequently.
I noticed that some cars still have engine sound but most of them lost the sound.
I though it was related to my upgrade to version 1809 of win 10 which cause some audio driver issues,

but now you gave the hint for the root cause.

Thanks

Ricky

So now I’ve uninstalled reinstalled the game. I have now completely lost all audio when I’m using my USB DAC. The USB DAC doesn’t seem to support 24bit audio settings like some people say you have to have for horizon to work properly, and once I get past the title screen I just lose all audio completely. If I switch back to my on board sound card it works now though.

At least I have a way of getting it to work now but it’s a pain. I don’t know why the audio would suddenly stop working through this device, I’ve had absolutely no problem with it with any other program in the past.

I’m on an Xbox One X and I as well moved the game to SSD and got the same audio bug. I was able to “fix” it by changing from graphics mode to frame rate mode, I know that’s not really an option on pc but just a heads up none the less. Weirdo bug

Interesting to know. If the bug ever comes back I’ll try messing with the graphics settings on PC, turning everything down and back up and see if it has any effect.

This happens to me CONSTANTLY during Forzathon live. If I switch cars during the event, I always know that when I come back in, there will be absolutely no audio other than the radio. Usually I can pause it and switch tabs a couple of times and it will come back, but if it doesn’t, then I know for sure that there’s a crash coming right after Forzathon live finishes. It’s getting ridiculous.

Edit: My game is on a separate hard drive, but it has always been on that drive since that is where I downloaded it originally…
