I was looking for a good picture of the #3 door/roof number, and realized that almost all good high res pictures on the Internet are the modern version, which is quite basic to make both for the left and right doors. As for the “old” #3, it’s possible to find a good high res image for the left door, but almost impossible to find one of the right door! :s This will take a bit longer than I had hoped. Oh well. No rush. Now I understand why most people make the Earnhardt Jr version rather than the original Earnhardt Sr #3.
Well, I can’t be a perfectionist all the time or I’d drive myself crazier than I already am. I’m afraid some vinyls haven’t been upgraded since FM4 (I use spreadsheets with coordinates, sizes, rotation, skewing etc to transfer vinyl groups from one game to another). I get to that when I get to that.
I don’t have any Eidelbrock vinyls at all. I do have some Edelbrock though which are among those not upgraded.
If no one else can or wants to get it to you i will do it.i got 1 race replica that has 21k downloads and decals take no time at all.sweedish is the best at nascar though.but its a pretty simple design.i could have it done in a day or two.let me know if u need me.and that other guys was looking good to.
It’s not a matter of “can”. Anybody can recreate any NASCAR paint scheme in Forza, now that we have so many layers to use. The problem for most people is not having the time, the patience, the motivation, or even the interest. Judging by all the designs in FM4, a lot of people have the interest to make NASCAR designs, but far from all have the patience to get them right.
If you don’t believe me, just search for Jeff Gordon designs in FM4, and you’ll find that most don’t even have the number on the right door skewed in the right direction. They’ve simply copied and pasted the number from the left door. That could be because of many reasons (laziness, not enough interest to find out what a design really looks like, time constraint, or whatever), but it also proves a point that a lot of designers have no problem with sharing a design that isn’t even close to be accurate. Judging by those designs’ download numbers, most players don’t care much either about the accuracy of the designs. I personally have a problem with not being accurate, which is why I end up spending a lot of time on–and a lot of layers in–my designs.
Yes, this #3 design a very basic design, but I don’t really have the time or the incentive to make this before a lot of other things I feel that I need to do. My design process is always motivated by me wanting to create a design because I want to use it myself, and that gives me a wish to get it done as soon as I can get it done.
When it comes to designs like this (I have never had an interest in Dale Sr, since my interest for NASCAR back then was non-existent as I haven’t grown up in North America), it’ll happen on a when-I-find-the-time basis, which right now won’t be anytime soon with work and a birthday coming up that requires a serious apartment clean-up.
CNWDDESIGNS1212 - If you want to take a stab at it, please don’t let me get in the way. I’m sure Mike wants it as soon as he can get it.
I’m just too much of a perfectionist to even want to try to do this quickly. Ever since FM5, with all those layers that we have to play with, my goal when I create every sponsor decal is that they all should look just as good as a full-sized vinyl group on the hood as they would as a vinyl group the size of someone’s palm on the car. If I didn’t have that goal, this #3 paint scheme wouldn’t take so long to make, but with 30 or so new sponsor decals that I need to create, it’ll take some time. Especially when I can’t even tell what some of the sponsors are on the car yet because I can’t find a photo that is high res enough to have all the sponsors legible to me.
It would sure help to have some old-timers around who knew all the sponsors from that time, or who could remember by looking at a low res image and perhaps recall them that way, but I don’t have a single other NASCAR fan that I could discuss this with in person within reach. Fact is that I don’t know of any other NASCAR fan in my region within 1000s of miles. Being a NASCAR fan in Sweden is quite a lonely pastime, and trying to find someone here who had any interest in the sport in the 80s makes it feel even lonelier. lol
I didn’t mean to end up with this rant, but that’s what happened. Oh well. Now you know a bit more about me and my design process. If you ever even had an interest. lol
Agreed on the ‘quality over quantity’ style. It really bugs me when I see people that just rush through their designs and leave all kinds of issues, mistakes, and inaccuracies behind. The extra time you spend on your designs, even if the result is much fewer designs being made, is definitely appreciated by everyone who uses your designs. Mike didn’t offer to pay you real money for a virtual design for nothing after all!
My dad has been a big time NASCAR fan since the 80s, but unfortunately his memory isn’t that great anymore. There’s a pretty slim chance that he’d be able to recall the sponsor logos… However, my uncle may be able to. If either one of them is able to indentify some of the more obscure logos I’ll get back to you.
I just got FH2 last night… check out my Gallery or check out my designs on FM5… I’ve done the #3 Wrangler & #3 GM Goodwrench on various different cars & would be honored to make you the design if you feel my designs are worthy enough.
Sounds like Mike will get his design done, one way or another. I’ll work on it every once in a while, and with you going all in with it as your first design, you’ll have a lot more enthusiasm and energy to get things done before me. Good luck! We’ll be needing it. Making all those sponsor decals will take some time, for sure. lol The only good thing here is that a few of them use standard Forza fonts, so no need to come up with new letters for those few sponsors… Always something!
With FH2, I’m going to work on trying to make my liveries, my NASCAR liveries, as close to authentic/replica as I can. I’ll still make some that look the part but aren’t 100% replicas, but those will be used so I can have my Earnhardt Sr designs while I’m still working on the decals to make the designs 100% authentic.
I don’t have FM5 anymore, buuut when I did I had a few of your paints. The wrangler Buick and the general lee plus some others I can’t remember off the top of my head.
If you want to make the wrangler Monte Carlo go for it. I have no problem buying multiples of the same car so I can run different liveries. I probably have 20 Chevy SS’s because of SweedishThunder lol
I’ll get to work on it. I didn’t know which Earnhardt Sr. design I wanted to do first (Wrangler or Goodwrench), so you’ve helped me in my decision. I’ll be, in the coming days/weeks/months making my Retro NASCAR Liveries. Specifically #3 Wrangler & Goodwrench (Earnhardt Sr.), DEI #8 Budweiser (Earnhardt Jr.), #6 Valvoline (Mark Martin), #21 Purolator (David Pearson), & #43 STP (Richard Petty). I’ll be doing different ones as well, those previously mentioned are just the ones I did on FM5 & ones I’m familiar with. I’m gonna try & push myself to get better at designing.
