That’s my point exactly - they can’t even do that. I said it back in 2023 during one of my dustups with Max - this game had a chance of launching in a bad state, and if it did, the onus was going to be on Turn 10 to respond in a timely and effective fashion to keep their playerbase. Can anyone here honestly say that they have done that? From October 10, 2023 moving forward?
Drop the nonsense. Come right out and say it - “We took a calculated risk on a long-term live-service product. Turns out, we’re bad at math.” That’s all I’m asking of Turn 10 at this point. It sucks that I can’t even expect them to do that much.
I’m also with Jezza14 in viewing the August update as a sincere desire by the devs to turn this into the product both sides envisioned. This throttling back was likely a corporate decision from far above.
It’s hard not to feel completely deceived with FM. Yet another game that promised continuous content, tracks, vehicles, and game modes only to be (deliberately and knowingly) released unoptimized which resulted in immediate rollback on content and overall roadmap scope.
Now fans are left with minuscule updates, hollow promises of continued support, and content delays. We can all see through the bs - FM failed on release day, lost many dedicated fans, and weren’t able to right the ship before all momentum was lost. Now everyone who has remained gets to deal with disappointment after disappointment until the game’s inevitably pulled off life support. An incredible failure of a game.
So what’s stopping them from being sincere now, aside from what I can only imagine is a deluded attempt to deny the the obvious and inevitable? Why be so vague? What excitement are they trying to generate, and why are they seemingly so confident that it won’t backfire on them fast? Take a look around at other forums and Reddit, and the Fujimi Kaido hype train has peeled out of the station. They have no control over it. So if and possibly when they don’t deliver, their wishy-washy nature is going to blow up in their face, and possibly harder than anything else that has throughout the course of this cursed thing’s existence.
I am not too upset about the track announcement. I love to get as many tracks as soon as possible but there are a lot of tracks in the game that I can enjoy. What I would like to see is more new content since that is the focus. I think there should be more than two cars each month for the next updates.
Not sure what to feel about this. ‘new content only’, ‘reevaluating’, There’s still so much content missing from previous Forza titles and new content to the game is needed badly.
We still don’t have a good single player career and Featured MP is really hard to enjoy with the current Skill Rating system.
You guys really need to work on a concrete road map that you can show us, I’m tired of just having to be surprised by underwhelming content every months. You apparently have a road map of the next 6 months, why not share a simplified version of that? AC Evo does it too.
I read the release as them being disappointed to have to say it, so I suspect the sincerity’s still there.
However, what about the capacity?
If (theoretically) a bunch of their team have been seconded by Microsoft to help Playground get FH6 to retail by Q4, 2025, what could they possibly say about that? It’s not their game, and the title hasn’t been “officially” announced yet. Sometimes, initiatives can get substantially delayed by losing a single key individual, and if FM’s lost a bunch of people to other priorities, that would create a lot of uncertainty with the roadmap and what can be delivered until they get those resources returned or replaced.
I would tend to agree @Draugnimir . A few months of new content & bug fixes would allow the team more time for putting together a substantial update for May. That would make sense.
At least this “message to the community” sets expectations (even lower).
“…over the next three months our updates will be new content only…
…a content update in May that will include a fan favorite track.
Leading up to that, we will continue adding new-to-Motorsport cars and events…”
No bug fixes?
No new features?
No improvements/optimizations for existing features?
Is there any point to any further use of the Suggestions Hub & Troubleshooting Hub?
Bathurst in December - next track in May… 5 months between track releases?
It’s been more than a year since the retail launch for this bare-bones & faulty game that was years in the making.
Taking so long to deliver so little further solidifies the impression that this title only has (and only ever had) barely more than a rudderless part-time skeleton crew working on it.
“…there has never been a better time to jump into Forza Motorsport…”
What a strange thing to say in the same breath that seems to announce the plug has been pulled on a year-old game that still hasn’t caught up to its own predecessors (and apparently never will).
I read this as saying we will get new (presumably FOMO) events and new cars and that’s it.
Given that they appear to have no intention now to meet their previous promise to add back in old events, it would at least be good if they removed the universally unpopular FOMO and kept every new event (and prize) being added in this period in as permanent additions.
Perhaps they could also add back in previous FOMO cars as Challenge Hub prizes. That is surely a simple thing which would at least maintain some goodwill.
I hope you’re right, the whole “re-evaluation” line struck a nerve with me. Nobody signed up for FOMO Motorsport, SP career is super important and needs updating. They need to do a roadmap blog post, this vague nonsense does nothing for anyone. I would prefer Chris Esaki or Dan Greenawalt post their vision for the game, just lay it out for us, something definitely changed behind the scenes.
Their “vision” = vague nonsense.
Their “vision” = hype & fantasy.
What they deliver will never come close to living up to their “vision.”
Anyone/everyone (& chatbots) can spin fairy tales about “vision.”
Imaginary & undelivered potential is meaningless & valueless.
Yeah, I’ve only been advocating for this since about mid-October 2023. It’s nice to see that other people besides myself are coming around to it being a good idea.
"At Turn 10 Studios, we have been encouraged and heartened by your continued support and participation in Forza Motorsport, and that has driven us to put our all into delivering the product we promised you in 2023.
However, we must bring you some sad news. As a result of shifting priorities, we regret to inform you all that development on Forza Motorsport will begin to wind down in May of this year.
But before we go, we intend to go out on a high note. Our next three updates are intended to build up to one final, significant swan-song in May, just in time for the celebration of Forza’s 20th anniversary.
Update 17 in February will focus on Daily Racers, and celebrate the cars that people drive to the racetrack, compete in, and then drive home from the racetrack.
Update 18, Velocity, comes in March and is all about speed. Join us as we bring you cars that have one common goal - unparalleled and uncompromising performance.
Update 19 will focus on Porsche and it’s unwavering committment to motorsports and competition. Look for that in April.
And then, last but not least, Update 20 in May will bring our largest and most comprehensive update, as well as the return of fan-favorite track Fujimi Kaido. We are excited to show it off to you, and should have a preview for you with next month’s update.
It has been a long and challenging race, and while the finish is coming faster than we anticipated, we are nothing but proud of the work we have done. Thank you for sticking with us, and we look forward to seeing you on the racetrack both in Forza Motorsport and beyond."
It took me about 10-15 minutes, tops, to work that up. And with details, I could flesh it out to be much more. No vaugeness. No attempts to lead people on.
1 - It’s the 20th anniversary of Forza Motorsport and they want to surprise us.
2 - Converting tracks from last gen takes time. Converting tracks from previous gens takes even longer. There’s a chance that they aren’t sure if it will be ready in time so don’t want to make any promises.
There’s 2 legit reasons why they haven’t announced anything.
You dont have to answer as i know you dont seem to want to ruffle feathers around here but, this doesnt seem quite strange to you? 5 months after releasing quite a weak road map, the stuff they didnt finish has been put on hold for at least another 4 months.
The next 3 updates will only feature new cars and events, something theyve already had the bandwidth to do while also adding a track and some sort of new feature every other month. Other than a lack of budget or losing half your staff, what would possibly cause something like this to happen.
