Back in 1986, the fastest car in the world was a Porsche, the 959. The automaker itself has never returned to the top speed race, but independent creator like RUF an more recently, 9ff, have carried on its legacy. Developing 1400 PS; the GT9 Vmax was claimed to be capable of 437 km/h in 2012, a few km/h more than the then record-holding Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The speed was never verified, however, and the company declared bankruptcy in 2013. That said, the car was probably more than capable of hitting the speed, considering a lower-powered GT9 had hit 407 km/h in 2008.
