XB1 controller causes understeer; XB360 controller doesn't; I'm even faster with the keyboard

Hello everyone,

I already noticed (and reported) this problem with FH5. With the XB1 controller I had a smaller steering angle (looked at the telemetry and noticed it while driving) from a certain low speed (60km/h?) than with the steering wheel (Thrustmaster), which was especially noticeable in tight corners (had to brake harder, had to let the car roll and if you only accelerated a little, you flew out of the corner).

I noticed the same thing in Forza Motorsport, which I could also see from the telemetry.

In Laguna Seca (long track) I had massive problems with the first, the last and the downhill s-curve (car: Ford Focus 2009; no upgrades; no tuning). My time with the XB1 controller (Bluetooth on PC) was therefore a high 1:49:xxx min.

Then I tried the same with the keyboard (2,4 GHz Dongle) and after a few laps I had a time of 1:46:4xx min! It also felt completely different. “Much better” I would say.

With the XB360 controller (wired on PC), as with the keyboard, I had a higher steering angle, which I could see in the telemetry. I got through all the corners that had previously caused me problems without any problems. My time: 1:46:2xx min.

Can someone who also has problems with understeer on the PC and an XB1 controller test whether the understeer is reduced or eliminated with the keyboard or the XB360 controller?

(On the PC, the XB1 controller shows exactly the same values under calibration as the XB360 controller, so it can’t be defective or similar).

Interesting find. Have you checked from telemetry that your deadzones allow full turning angle with both controllers while the car is not moving? I am experiencing a weird lack of turning angle with series S / controller, mostly on slow speed corners.

Just tested it.
With both controllers I had a full steering lock when standing (according to telemetry).
Each full turn took about 1.5 seconds.

Are you using normal or sim steering? Someone here wrote that sim steering allows more steering angle but personally I can’t drive with sim steering, without sensitivity settings it’s way too twitchy for me.

I also checked my deadzone settings with telemetry but it was not the problem here either, steering angle was fine when the car was not moving.

Normal or simulation (or whatever settings) made no difference to me - even with FH5.

This is - at least in my case - apparently a pure hardware problem.

I don’t know if you have the same issues as many others but here’s some posts that might (or not) be related.

Ya slow corners are really bad, like it starts to really understeer the slower you go at times so when you have cars around and you and need to correct the car to avoid a collision almost becomes impossible. Just a very sluggish unresponsive feel.

i have the same issues with normal steering it feels absolutely horrendous not on every car tho i have also noticed if your tyres front or back are to wide on certain cars no matter what you do to your setup the car doesn’t turn please someone get this to the developers attention list it’s so game breaking for example the 1992 Honda NSX-R try it for yourself you will understand what I mean I’m not saying that you won’t believe me it explains it better than i can because I’m autistic ASD I also Enjoy interacting with others on forza’s website
