I just got back from vacation today so forgive me if someone has discussed this already. I searched…
Reading the announcement for Horizon 2, the game will have some really cool features that many wanted/expected in Forza 5 but didn’t get, features that Project CARS also will have such as “Full day/night cycles, dynamic weather, rain droplets collecting on cars…”. The announcement also says “Forza Horizon 2 has been built off the Forza Motorsport 5 engine, with its emphasis on realistic materials, light, and atmosphere.” So what I deduce is that the Forza 5 “engine” is capable of dynamic weather and time cycles.
What I’m wondering is, should we expect or even hope that these features will be added to Forza 5 or does it make more sense for Turn 10 to just hold out until Forza 6 is released? Secondly, if other game developers, even one working hand in hand with Turn 10 sees dynamic weather and time cycles as a must have for the game, why doesn’t Turn 10 see it as a benefit for Forza 5? We know quite well that races occur in the rain and at night, not just at Le Mans… So why not have it? Or do you think that not having is all a part of the plan so that you’ll have to buy Horizon if you want those features?
this is only my openion but i think they should concentrate on fixing all the bugs and crashes more than adding new stuff. every update seems to introduce more bugs so they need to get the base engine 100% rock solid and bug free otherwise the bugs will creep into horizons and fm6. i think they should wait until fm6 to start adding much more stuff. i would rather play the motorsport game than the waiting game. every update seems to break something, and if i get hit with losing my game save the game save isn’t all i’ll lose. patience is not my strongest trait.
also horizons runs at 30 frames per second while motorsport runs at 60. horizon gets twice as much time per frame so they can do more in that frame. the trade off is that horizon will be less responsive and more arcady.
Just because something works on one game, it doesn’t mean it will work on an older version.
An update for rain sounds like a massive patch/update. It may be held off if its better to design a game for those features than trying to make a new feature fit in an old design.
Think of rain as a square box and fm5 representing a round hole. It just may not work.
Horizon 2 loses some stuff for day/night and weather to work. We already know Horizon 2 is confirmed to run at half the frame rate, and it’s basically a given that it’s going to be calculating less in terms of physics. FM5 can’t sacrifice those things for night or rain.
