I’m just curious if FH6 will have Ray Tracing on the Xbox Series X/S consoles cause I’m on the Xbox Series X and it’d be neat to have Ray Tracing in the whole entire game and not just locked behind the Forza Vista Mode and Photo Mode unless if they’re saving it for the next gen Xbox?
Digital Foundry spotted them using Screen space reflections on the cars, which isn’t something they’d usually do. I think they’ll probably again have minimum ray tracing features and maybe bring in more stuff like path tracing post launch for PC? They added ray traced reflections in the open world post launch for FH5.. So why not for FH6? It would be weird not to. That seems like the bare minimum to me.
But i wouldn’t expect anything too transformative on consoles. I remember back when FM launched there was some people looking at the reflections on the bonnet and thinking it was ray tracing since it looked very high resolution but it was actually just cube maps.
I think with dropping the last gen consoles there is the opportunity for fh6 to push the xsx hardware. Hopefully
FH5 also had the ray traced audio at launch. I suspect that’s coming back.
To respond to the thread, I doubt it will have much ray tracing. The series X can do it… technically. The reality is that most machines, including mine that is an absolute beast compared to any modern console, struggle with ray tracing.
But with Microsoft claiming that they’re working on a DirectX update that will bring wild efficiency gains to ray tracing, who knows? Doubt that will be ready in time for FH6, but I’m just repeating something I heard in a Digital Foundry video and guessing at the timeline based on how little information those guys had, I have no insider information myself.
I assume Xbox uses DirectX, or some bespoke system derived from it. I’ll be honest, I barely understand what APIs do. I understand the “why” but not the “how”.
Well that’ll be better than nothing in my book
If there’s going to be a big graphical push, i imagine it’ll be with their next gen hybrid PC/console. Especially since it’s supposed to be high-end. I suppose they could do an enhanced version for FH6 with all the bells and whistles of ray tracing. But it’s gonna have to arrive to PC first?
From yesterday’s gameplay I can tell the game has RT reflections AND RT global illumination… maybe RT ambient occlusion too
