I see little point in updating FM5. Sure, add car packs and whatnot to satisfy the diehards but I’m all for giving T10 a mulligan for this game and hope they really focus on making a motorsport game and get back to the basics on what made this game addictive. The focus on cars while good, I think inadvertently caused the series to stray a bit.
No sense in rehashing the pros/cons of the decisions made to date because I think there is enough info on that. I know T10 can make probably the best console racing game ever. Its apparent to me that many others feel the same and can see the potential, else there wouldn’t be any complaining about major problems/omissions /changes.
Glad to hear Ian say there will be more! But the person who made the original post also has to remember that the Horizon series has a different target audience and is worked on by a separate studio. Which means T10’s main focus is still the Motorsports series. They just overlook the progress for FH2.
Glad to hear we will get at least one more DLC for FM5…! Will we get another new or classic FM track?
I was late to the party on the Xbox One. As a matter of fact I just picked one up last week (along with FM5) and I’ve been tearing it up since. I love the physics in FM5 and the graphics are gorgeous. I also love the revamped career (league) model (but we need a race length multiplier option PLEASE!!!). Racing is engaging and fun. Overall it’s an improvement over FM4.
That said, I get the feeling FM5 was rushed in as an Xbox One release title (and I completely understand why btw). Where did all of the tracks go? I see new, welcome additions of SPA, Bathurst, Long Beach (dlc), Yaz, Prague (beautifully done), and additional layouts for RA (returned in dlc), Nurburgring (returned in dlc), plus the Le Mans Bugatti Circuit. Where is Infineon (Sonoma), Tsukuba, Suzuka, Motegi, Mugello, Hockenheimring, and Maple Valley? What about the full Positano (like in FM3)? Fujimi? I can understand cutting Sunset, Sedona and Iberian, but I loved Camino (one of the best cat-mouse, tag, etc. tracks imo)! Where did the grouping and car stats go in the Garage? Why can’t I see ALL of my saved tunes like I can see all of my saved liveries? Where the heck is the club feature?
The game is beautiful, and I’m loving it. There are things about it that feel rushed/unpolished or not thought through very well. Turn 10 got the important stuff right (physics, graphics, audio, progression), but the little things show me they were not done. This makes me happy FH2 in coming in September. I had fun in FH1, and it was nice to just be able to take my car out for a spin and just drive. Hopefully it will have more depth than FH1 (finished I FH1 single player in less than 2 weeks), and it truly have FM5 physics, tuning, and a true storefront (like FM4/FH1). Without tuning, FH2 will not hold my interest (like FH1 didn’t).
As for FM6, I really hope it’s to the depth of FM4. I still play FM4 to this day, and I still have fun (hoping my 360 doesn’t red ring-o-death). That says something about that game. I don’t play FH1 anymore (that says something too). Hell I even go back and run laps in FM2 & FM3 from time to time. I’d love to see some of the older tracks return in FM6. Specifically Maple Valley, Suzuka, Motegi, Tsukuba, Mugello, Infineon and Hockenheimring. You can keep SunsetP and Sedona as well as take Bernese Alps. I’d love to see the addition of Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Monza, Watkins Glen, VIR and The Streets of Willow Springs added… What about a true test track model from Audi, BMW, or one of the other global car companies? Since I am a tuner, I’d also love to see a complete stats screen accessible from the TUNING INTERFACE!!! I get really tired of having to navigate back and forth to gather the information I need. Give it to me in one place where I need it the most (while tuning). All fo the stats too… Tires, engine stats, installed parts, virtual benchmarks (FM5 style), etc. Having the virtual benchmarking available in the tuning screen is great, but I have to back out to see the HP, TQ, weight, etc…
Anyway… Sorry for the rant…
TL;DR - Even though I just started with FM5, I am glad FH2 is coming in Spet. FM5, while better than FM4 overall, is lacking and feels unfinished. I love the Forza universe. It’s the best combination of driving satisfaction and visual/audible gratification. I hope FH2 has more depth than FH1 and carries over true FM5 physics & tuning. Clubs return… Awesome… Hopefully some sort of Storefront does as well. The system in FM5 is horrible…
I don’t believe that it has the same engine as forza 5, if it did forza would already have weather! The first Horizon was supposed to have forza physics but in reality it was nothing like forza.
jaredo, it has already been confirmed by T10 that H2 is using the same engine as FM5.
BiggLou55, hope you guys understand that the time since the console generation release is a very significant factor in the depth and polish you see in next-gen games. You mention several times that you hope that FM6 will achieve the depth of FM4 … FM4 was released a full 6 years after the release of the 360 and the devs had 6 years of work and experience with that hardware/software combination to develop the depth you enjoyed. The XB1 has barely been out 8 months and it will take a while for the devs and game producers to be able to build and include everything you’re talking about. Every track and every car has had to be re-scanned from scratch for inclusion in FM5 … there’s no library of assets to use as there was with FM4. They will get there but it will take some time.
I get it… Please do not mistake my post as a bash against Turn10. They were under a deadline to get FM5 ready for the XB1 launch last year. They had to have working demos for E3 2013 and other conventions. This didn’t leave them a who lot of time to develop FM5. With the time they did have, I am impressed with the outcome.
As I said, FM5 is better than FM4 where it counts (physics, progression, graphics/audio). I am impressed… There are just non gameplay features that I feel are lacking over previous titles. Garage grouping, car performance stats (like Redline, peak HP and Tq, etc.), the community storefront (minus the AH which I never liked), and clubs. The lack of these features is what brings FM5 down. The lack of tracks and cars was due to time limitations. While I’d love to have twice the tracks we currently have in FM5, the ones we have are gorgeous! I’d rather them hold back tracks that are unfinished/not updated, as opposed to releasing them. I didn’t expect FM5 to be as deep as FM4, and I am not disappointed with FM5 in the least. What I am hoping is the FM6 expands and refines FM5. This was the progression of FM2, 3, & 4. We should expect the same of FM5, 6, and beyond…
I will also assume that FM5 will follow the same path of previous titles. While DLC support for FM4 ended as FH1 released, we still had fresh monthly rival challenges up to the release of FM5. So… History being the best teacher, we can hopefully expect the same from FM5.

I just think theres allot of miss information like above stating that forz5 cars were rescanned from forza 4 when we all know the paint glitzes have been rescanned too! lol
Also I expected the laser scanned tracks to be on par with iracing and the others , but the tracks do not have all the bumps and ruts from the real tracks, did they miss that part ?
Forza horizon is a Arcade
Racer and it was sucrssfull because it didn’t have forza physics and anyone could drive it.
Unless there is a way to add even more assists like
A arcade mode , actually arcade would be standard with sim as a option,
I’m not bagging on it in fact I preordered it on the chance that it drives just like forza 5!
I am aware this is not related to the topic (I know how forums work in general).
Some people are new to these forums/game. Why don’t you post a link where people can see for themselves? The subject is then done!
Again, people may be misinformed, it’s not like we want to be wrong! We want to be informed. That is part of why we are here. If people say something that isn’t true. Let’s correct the info on the spot instead of leaving them and others in the dark. Thanks for reading.
@Rockefelluh - Forza Horizon used the Forza Motorsport 4 engine. I think people misunderstand what that means. An engine is like a framework. It may be a list of equations or variables that can be set for the cars. It does not mean the game will play the same way as another game using the same engine.
Forza Horizon 2 uses FM5’s engine. Once again this does not mean anything about whether the game will feel, look or play the same. Simply that it has been done using the same engine. Lots of different games use the Unreal Engine but not all play the same.
FH2 will run at 1080p running at 30 fps. That is why it has weather - because they believe with a game like Horizon running at 30 fps is not a major downside. Turn 10 until now have had a desire not to go below 60 fps in FM games. I suspect if they did they would have people complain about that. We don’t know how much they have looked into doing weather. It may be that it puts at risk the 60 fps.
All of the Horizon information I mention here can be found in the “what we know” thread in the FH2 forum.
Because it’s not taking a backseat to FH2, as much as it is taking a backseat to Forza 6, I think. Horizon was probably introduced to allow for a yearly release for the Forza franchise while still working on a two-years development cycle for Motorsport.
