I can’t count the number of times I’ve had an idea for a paint job on a particular car only to attempt it in paint shop and rage quit because the game doesn’t recognise one body panel from another or even the side elevation from the top elevation. especially cars with flared wheel arches. Do they not test this stuff before release?
You can put the images on both surfaces, and join them together that way.
The paint booth system is not designed to work as you’re describing it. It has never been built to apply vinyls to specific body panels. UV mapping for vinyl application is built based on line-of-sight from 90-degree angles (straight on from the side, straight down on the top, etc.). So where vinyls can be placed on the sides and top is dependent on what can be seen from those lines of sight. Curved body panels or body parts covered up by other body parts have to follow that guideline and be placed on only a single side. And it doesn’t matter where the lines of a body panel fall … it’s based on the line of sight. So there was no ‘testing’ that was not done and these are not bugs or glitches that you’re asking about … it simply wasn’t designed to work as you’re explaining it.
That’s all well and good but not actually how the real world works. what my eyes see when looking at the side of a car is the side of a car. Surely that’s not difficult to code
Actually it’s not hard to program at all come to think of it, but…
…It’s even easier to draw on both panels, but you don’t want to. I’ve never had a big problem with any of the cars.
On this car the front playing cards are on both the side, and the top. All I did was stuck them on the side, then copy/pasted them to the top, and rotated them, then slid them next to the other image on the side. The same with some of the laughing…
Love this phrase. It’s pretty much guaranteed to be difficult to code.
But hey, why not build a couple of different cars (with vastly different shapes and forms to ensure representations) of comparable modelling quality to Forza and do a sample proof of concept painting code that would work with panels like you want?
I love seeing this quote all the time too. Yeah, it takes a team of hundreds of experts in their profession years to be able to build and code a game as sophisticated as these AAA games … but yeah, ‘surely it’s not difficult’.
