White Paint not white enough

Hello everyone!

I’m new to this forum, as well as Horizon 4. Just got my “Dirt” car, choose the Escort, and tried my first own design. I tried to create a white paintjob with some blue flakes in it, but had no luck. It seemed like silver or way too dark anyways. Even if i turned “brightness” all the way up. So i tried to create “normal” paint. But the white didn’t seem as clear and bright as the “factory” white. Did i miss something, do something wrong?

If you’re trying to create a pearl white, it’s not going to be as bright, as a plain non-metallic white… To make the type of pearl white you’re talking about, I’d recommend starting with the following formula, which comes from the outdated “Forza Color Sheet”, so you’ll have to play with the values a bit, but this will be a good baseline to start from:

Base color/color 1:
Hue - 0.58
Saturation- 0.08
Brightness- 0.87

Metallic flake/color 2:
Hue - 0.66
Saturation- 0.02 (I personally recommend increasing this to at least 0.10 or 0.15 saturation, so the blue in the metallic flake will actually show)
Brightness- 0.96 (Can also increase this to 1.00, if you desire a greater “pop” from the blue)

It appears the built-in “factory” colors have an additional iridescent layer that boosts the highlights. In the images below, the top image is the “factory” white, and the bottom image is full-on bright white selected from normal colors. The base color appears to be the same to me, but the factory color has brighter highlights, which is especially noticeable around the door handle area.

This appears to apply to other factory colors, as well. So exactly reproducing the factory colors may not be possible with the current options in many cases.
