I think some of us who have been around the Forza franchise forever will never see an evolution/advancement of the game. The developers do seem to be stuck in a “mold” for selling, not for increasing the vehicle/racing/depth experience. By the same token, a new person should absolutely learn the tracks (ahem: driver licensing?) before being allowed into online racing on tracks they don’t know and cars they cannot handle.
There are so many things which could be done, yet mostly public relations promotion coming from the Community Staff week after week. We used to have the “community team” as our representatives to liaison with the developers for our needs and improvement of the game.
Tell us the “picture” Community: What about leaderboard wipes in conjunction with the three track “adjustments” included in the Content Update? What about the Catalunya “barriers” which can be driven through without impeding either speed or behavior of the cars? Who tested this?
A frog with a jeweled staff and ornate crown is still just a frog.
Very very true Snow, a frog is a frog no matter what he’s wearing, in the end, he’s, well… Just a frog.
But it’s nice to ponder on the possibility that there’s a ‘sea change’ happening that could be aimed at a bigger market share that’s been dangling in frontier if them fir many years.
Perhaps now there could be the time and place got his yo occurs? Who knows…
So far things are good, but mostly checking off “bucket list” stuff my wife wants to accomplish. Things are scheduled through the end of the year, primarily including making it to early October when our second grandchild, this one a boy, will be born.
Since the first week in June when she had a right-side seizure driving to work (safely pulled the car to the curb) and the brain MRI taken the day before revealed five growing large tumors in her brain now, instead of the shrinking, semi-inactive four. A passerby stopped to assist, got the car in park for her and called me. Consults with oncologist, radiation doctors & neurosurgeon ruled out brain surgery, plus the half-active lung tumor is growing again.
The only day of work she has missed since being diagnosed June 30, 2015, was that June 7. Surgery was ruled out, not because the neurosurgeon couldn’t remove the two largest tumors, but because of the probable side-effects like motor function loss, hearing/sight/speech loss, etc. So our option was chemo infusion, and now with a “port” for infusion, second treatment is this coming Monday. .
But now I’m a chauffeur! And also a full-time gopher, though I’m not changing my gamertag. LOL! We will never give up!
To the OP: Definitely give Project CARS a try, I think that will deal with most of your Forza disappointments (it sure did for me). It’s now very cheap with the GOTY edition that includes all DLC ever released. And it does feel much more like a true motorsport game with a racing calendar, championships, practice and qualifying laps, dynamic weather and tons of customisation options.
And Project Cars is refreshing because there is so much to learn about even using it. Remember, long-time players, we “know” the process in Forza Motorsport. There’s not much to enthrall us with even though it is #6 in the series.
Comparisons can be made all day, and saying the view is much more beautiful from that side of the mountain isn’t telling the whole story.
Pretty much, the first thing I learned in Pcars was how different a car feels with a full tank of fuel vs low fuel. Even when the conditions are cloudy the track isn’t as grippy as it would be if it was sunny. Things like that bring immersion.
And pretty much looking at other “racing” games and figuring out what could be improved, while others (like Forza Motorsport) haven’t advanced in that depth and evolution. But, when you’ve got eight or so years of FM to hold up starting point, like we’ve been trying to point out here to Turn 10, you need not do much to increase that depth when you say “What’s missing?”
I’ll be the first to admit that Forza feels a lot more polished than PCars does, but with that Forza polish also comes simplicity. PCars does feel like a much more advanced game, Forza is just way too easy. For example when you are in slicks on a dry circuit while it starts raining. My Forza simplicity mentality tells me “I’ll be fine, I’ll just do these last few laps a bit more careful instead of pitting for wet tyres”. But then reality kicks in and you can barely even accelerate the car while on slicks on a full wet track. Stuff like that happens all the time to me. Tyre force, car grip, force feedback, the difference between dry and wet tyres, the difference between cold and warm tyres all feels much better in Project Cars than it does in Forza.
Forza has it’s advantages as well though, as I said the game feels more polished and it has a much bigger car roster. But it sure isn’t leaning towards a sim like Project CARS does. [Mod Edit - Do not impersonate, harass, or defame Turn 10, staff members, or moderators - D] As long as the controller is the main source of imput, as long as the devs play their game twice a week on Twitch with a controller in chase cam view there simply is no hope for the future of Forza for me as a player. The FH series stands strong as a lighthearted simcade open world racer where you just enjoy the scenery while you listen to the music from the radio stations. I LOVED that in FH2 and I’m sure I will love that in FH3 as well. I don’t mind a game like that with multiple camera views to choose from or with a controller.
But to fulfill my appetite for a sim racer, Forza Motorsport simply has no future, for me it’s a dead end game. Since Project CARS was released in 2015 on both consoles a new ERA of sim racing has started. Dirt Rally added to that and Assetto Corsa will soon as well. Sim racing is no longer an expensive PC exclusive, it has become a possibility on consoles as well. And with XBox Project Scorpio and whatever PS4 answer Sony will have to that, I’m sure sim racing on the console market will only grow stronger.
[Mod Edit - Do not impersonate, harass, or defame Turn 10, staff members, or moderators - D] Unless there are some DRASTIC overhauls to the game I’m not interested in any future title of the series. But I don’t believe T10 has the balls to make drastic changes, FM6 already felt like FM5.1 and I’m sure FM7 will just feel like FM5.2 as well. Not my cup of tea anymore.
This is a bit morbid, mate, but I believe you’ve the nail on the head. Especially that part I bolded. I’ve never thought of it that way, never thought about how scary (as opposed to just really stupid and somewhat ignorant, which could also be used to describe it) that statement was.
T10 and [Mod Edit - Do not impersonate, harass, or defame Turn 10, staff members, or moderators - D] (nailed it!) have their formula, and it’s been successful. People are going to keep coming back to FM because they’re used to it, because as much as they may complain here, they know what they’re getting and they’ll still pay for it. Until that group grows up, moves on to another game (or away from gaming in general), each new FM game is probably going to be an evolution of FM, as opposed to a revolution. That job was given to F:H, which likely attracted a bigger new customer base than any new FM ever did. Now that MS kind of has those two titles under its belt, I’m guessing we’re going to see FM die before we see it revolve.
I’m willing to bet that many players of both FM and GT started many years ago, and are kind of still stuck in the mentality of that familiarity. It’s probably the reason why turning to PCars hasn’t even crossed my mind, and why I bought DiRT Rally months ago, and still haven’t installed it. Of course, a lot of that probably has to to with the fact I really don’t have time to play more than 1-2 games at a time, and I’ve committed to getting through FM6’s career mode. As much as I feel like I’m grinding much of the time, I can’t let go.
It seems like there are a few people here who should simply be playing other games. A big part of the draw for me, and I’m sure others, for Forza is that it’s not a true, hardcore simulator. If I needed a wheel/pedal setup to be competitive or to simply enjoy playing, I probably wouldn’t have purchased an XBone, and I certainly wouldn’t have purchased Forza.
Forza is fantastic when though of as a near-sim. The developers have smoothed over some of the more unforgiving aspects of simulators while still providing a playing experience that feels authentic and fairly true to life.
Yeah, I wish the online racing were better, as in there was some system for putting likeminded players in the same lobby. I wish the single player mode had more depth. I wish there were more options for Free Play. But all things considered this is still the best console racer I’ve ever played.
I do play other games because Forza lacks the complexity a proper racing game should have. If you’re into 3-4 lap races, mod cars, and prize spins then Mario Kart or NFS is more your game imo.
The other titles that offer what im looking for are direct competitors to the Forza franchise, does it really seem like a great idea to keep Forza Motorsport as is while their rivals at Polyphony, SMS, Kunos, & Codemasters move foward in the complexity of their racing games? Does not seem very bright to me.
Well, I would hope it’s superior to a last gen console game, we haven’t seen what GT sport or GT7 will have to offer yet. But GT Sport looks more promising than FM6 at least.
