Wondering if anyone has the answer and could you explain.
The question seems a tad vague. Which track? What class? What car? Tuned or not tuned? All of these factor into the equation I would imagine.
There are drivers playing the game that almost none of us will ever catch. They’re just better than we are. Pure and simple. Also, they may have invested heavily in rigs, wheels, etc.
Is this a reference to some of the outlandish leaderboard times using modded cars?
cheers,

I really think the concept of “modded” cars is a bit overblown. While I haven’t played online very long, there is maybe one outlandish car that I’ve matched against in all of my online games, so it hardly seems to be a major issue. Leaderboard times I know little about what makes a good or “legit” time. My overall car skill is so far behind the best players, that I don’t worry about it. I believe his real question is “How can you tell if a lap time is legit or not?” without actually saying it. My question is, what does it matter? Have fun, set your best time. Compare it to your friends’ and move on.

Really? Referring to the last post. I know what your answer will be to this statement. I can understand hitting the piano keys on occasion. I watched a few of the top times and not one of them had all four tires on the track for an entire lap. This is why past a certain point on the leaderboards does a fast run constitute a fast lap time. I’m not expecting a flawless lap there will always be mistakes.
It’s called using all of the track, if you arent pushing the track limits you are not using enough of the track. If it’s not slowing you down and not dirtying the lap and you are going for leaderboard times, then use it. Im still not entirely sure what you are asking.
it sounds to me you’re racing well within the limits of the track, the car and your own limits. You’re probably racing far too tidy and cautiously. Maybe too scared of making a mistake? I know many people like this. They’re coming up to the braking zone and they’re 5 feet from the edge of the track. Sometimes it is a shade faster to use a little bit more track than was probably intended, grass braking being a prime example. However, it’s surely possible to top 10 any leaderboard without putting a tyre in the grass so a reluctance to do so should not hold you back very much at all. When somebody is faster, don’t always look for a reason why they’re faster other than they simply have more skill. Race hard and don’t look for excuses.
There are plenty of #1 laps where the tires never leave the pavement. Take the Nurburgring and Fujimi Kaido, for example. These are two of the hardest tracks in the game. One of them offers absolutely no benefit from leaving the track, and the other doesn’t even give you the option to do so. Don’t assume people can’t do the laps they do without putting a tire or two off. It’s simply an easier method to obtain a faster lap.
A lap is too fast for a track when you look at the leaderboard for F class times and the top time says F999! and it’s actually an X class car and a radically fast time. I wish someone would clear those out.
