What is faster and what has better durability?
I have no proof, I think I read somewhere on this forum they are the same
Test it out
Disclaimer, this is based on my experience of just racing with them, no hard testing with data.
The wets feel faster when there’s actual spray coming of the tyres. If there’s no spray, but it is raining the sports feel better.
The sport tyres will outlast the wet tyres in both scenarios, but the wetter the track, the longer both tyres will last.
Did the test before the post
I did one lap of the ring with 50% fuel and 4 times wear. (with same car and same PI)
1 lap | 1967 wet | 1967 sport | wear avg at hill wet | wear avg at hill sport |
nurburg light | 07:14.185 | 07:05.010 | 31.8 | 14.5 |
nurburg mod | 07:16.213 | 07:18.126 | 21.3 | 12.1 |
nurburg heavy | 07:20.862 | 07:23.387 | 18.5 | 11.4 |
Answer is sport is faster in light (rain)with lowest wear.
Race is faster in mod and heavy (rain) but with more wear.
That is some good data!
Just to check, the pressures are the same for both tyres? I usually set race tyres at a higher pressure to reduce the wear offset to sports, which influences laptimes.
Normaly sport for me has more pressure.
Good test, you should do another one on a more normal sized track to get a more relevant comparison as a couple of seconds difference on the ring would likely equate to a negligible difference on a smaller track.
Tire wear and pi cost seems like it would be the deciding factor though. Id say sports are probably the better pick overall for cars with this choice.
I gathered more data.

Light rain is when the track is moist but still very dry (use normal compounds) and will significantly degrade wet tires as though they are soft
Medium rain and higher is where wet tires should be used. Heavy rain leading to less degradation.
It ALWAYS trips everyone up in multiplayer, as they pick WET tires for “LIGHT RAIN” and end up with no grip nearly 75% into the race.
(the game also applies wet tires automatically, which is cruel)
