Was it worth pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition?

Literally best buy of my life. Loads of single player content. Multiplayer isn’t the worst thing ever made in the gaming history, but it’s pretty lousy and I mainly avoid it. I feel happy for all the guys who made this beautiful world and amazing car models.

Ok seriously, it was worth it for me since I already knew I’d buy the 2 planned DLC anyway, and probably 3 or 4 one-off car purchases (I don’t really buy car packs because they usually have a bunch of cars I don’t care about, but I do buy one-off cars if I really really like them). That seemed to add up to the price of UE, so I went for it. Turns out it was a good deal because I got VIP and the Bond car pack too.

If I bought this thinking I’d play multiplayer mostly (like I have with Forza Motorsports 2 & up) then I’d be extremely disappointed. Multiplayer in this game really is awful. But it doesn’t bother me because I play Horizon to just goof around and enjoy the cars and the landscape in single player, or in convoy with my friends. It’s perfect for that.

I would say yes and no. Yes, because now that the expansions are also included with the ultimate edition it’s, on paper at least, the best value of any ultimate edition so far.

No, because FH4 in many ways still doesn’t feel like a finished product between the broken multiplayer, awful progression, lack of polish and heaps of bugs and other issues. Nearly everything past the (shockingly short) prologue feels like a half-baked attempt to pad game time between the artificial rarity of many common, desirable cars due to wheelspin exclusivity and the time-limited availability of other cars to try to create addictive hooks to keep players coming back week after week. Multiplayer is still just a bad joke for the most part.

Honestly, the gamepass version of this game is probably the one to get. Unless you like grinding wheelspins, trolling the AH, and playing the game like it’s a job with regard to weekly challenges to collect all the cars, IMHO there really isn’t anything compelling to do that would keep me playing for more than a month if I didn’t already have the ultimate edition.

Worth it for me because I already knew I wanted car pass and expansions because I already bought those separately in FH3. The early access was icing on the cake.

I was determined to not buy anything additional and stick to the standard edition of the game. I knew it was the rational decision, I didn’t need anything extra. However, when Fortune Island came out, irrationality got the better of me, and I bought the Ultimate Add Ons bundle. There’s very few of the extra cars that are worthwhile. I’ve used the FXX for online races, that’s one of the few cars that is worth having, along with the #43 Viper which allowed me to complete a seasonal drift zone that I couldn’t otherwise get a high enough score for. But I could have got those two cars for a lot less money. Fortune Island, well, it’s really just something that takes up more of my time, and the game already has far too many things to consume your time, with all the seasonal things to do each week to get the exclusive cars. I really want to focus on developing my collection of cars and tunes for online racing, so having to do those other things is just an annoyance. The VIP credit boost is helpful, but I’d pretty much already reached the end of buying all the cars from the Autoshow anyway. As soon as the garage size is increased I think I pretty much have enough credits now to buy the remaining cars.

So overall I don’t think it was worthwhile for me to buy the ultimate add ons, but if I hadn’t, I’d probably still be being tempted by it.

I’ve been telling myself this for the last 8 Forza releases.

It never works.

Biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent on a game. I barely if ever play it and that’s all because the multiplayer is the worst ever in the series. I still can’t believe what they’ve done to this game.

No. Based purely on the fact that game is still a bug filled mess despite being released 3 months ago, car pass cars have mostly been pretty underwhelming, support is almost non existent with getting issues fixed. I wish I would have waited to see the reviews and the posts in this forum and just purchased the game at a steep discount, maybe one day if the game bugs are ever fixed.

Measured by the time I’ve spent playing it and probably will do in the future, yes it’s worth it because the price might seem high but then…you can’t put a price on fun

Looking at the things we got so far in the Car Pass and so on…well it’s kinda mixed. I love Fortune Island but FI also came with the best cars so far put extra into the game after launch. I’m very disappointed by most of the cars in the Car Pass. There were hardly any really exciting cars - except for the new Vantage, the FXX, Agera RS and maybe 2 - 3 more, the rest was rather underwhelming or just plain uninteresting for me but that’s the risk you take buying or pre-ordering stuff long in advance, that’s why I’m not even mad, I just wished there would be more cars I actually cared about but well…there is still one expansion to come and I’m looking forward to that.
As for the DLCs - I love most of the James Bond cars, I like the Formula Drift cars as well I’m just not that much into drifting, so…it’s nice to have them but I wouldn’t miss them if I wouldn’t own them.

Still I say for me it was worth it because I know myself and at some point I would have bought the expansions anyway, maybe not the car pass after knowing what it offered but the rest is fine and I’m not regretting the price as I don’t buy that many games anymore. Last year I bought exactly 2 games, the year before it was not even one and after playing the demo I know I would play FH4 a lot so it was just fair to get the UE.

At this point I would like to say a big thank you PG! I might complain about FH4 here and there but it’s nothing compared to all the things I love about it and I really enjoy FH4, I still play it almost every day and having a great time doing so, looking forward to the next expansion and I will stick a little bit longer with FH4, which is not that normal for me anymore as I’m pretty bored with games quickly these days. BF V for example - after more or less 50 hours I’m done with the game and uninstalled it yesterday. Sad but in BF2 I had over 1200h on the clock when I finally stopped playing it for good. FH4 is the TDU successor I was waiting for all these years after TDU2 was a huge disappointment. So…Thank you PG!

For me it was.

I played a huge amount in those 3 days, got to level 100+, and I gained my first prestige level by the end of the week.

I am happy with VIP, it gives 2x forzathon live points, including the weekly events. This means you get 60 points from a fully completed forzathon live event, 20 pts for every small challenge you complete, and 200 for the car-related one. This means that you’ll have A LOT of points on your hands. I spend most of my points on super wheelspins. After you collect most of the clothing items you’ll start getting more cash and/or cars.

All in all I feel that the ultimate edition is a better deal than the ultimate edition of FH3, I don’t regret buying it.

You get that without VIP, VIP just gets you the house with that perk for free, so effectively gives you the 5m cost of that house. If you’ve already bought that house when you buy VIP, it doesn’t give you the 5m.

I didn’t get the Ultimate, just the base game. I feel satisfied. I’ll grab the DLC content next year when it’s discounted.

For me personally I don’t feel like it was worth it. Interestingly I’ve only ever pre-ordered two of the Forza Ultimate Editions out of all of them, FH4 and FM7 and both have been a disappointment for me.

Visually it’s very nice and I welcomed the British/Scottish scenery at first but like many have said the game ran flat too quick and ultimately it doesn’t hold any re-play value like the others did. The reason for this is a mixture of the content and my personal taste.
