vAcesWild's FM6 Auto Exotica - WHAT IT DO (AN UNCONVENTIONAL UPDATE | 5/26/16

Hi everybody! Kia ora!

Welcome to my Forza Motorsport 6 Forzatography gallery!
ABOUT ME

Hi everybody, my name is Sean, but on here I go by my GamerTag of vAcesWild. I’m 19, and I’ve just started my first year of college. You’re quite likely to see some pics of my campus/residence/college area periodically. I’m a diehard rugby fan (played for five years but I’m taking a sabbatical) and I’m a music junkie. You’ll probably notice that all my posts feature music; that is how I format things. I also enjoy writing; everything from stories to reviews. I’ll mention that more in a moment.

I plan on updating this thread twice a week, college schedule and motivation allowing. I’ve run two previous Forzatography threads on here before (FH2 and FM5) and maintaining multiple galleries is difficult for me, so for the moment I will be running just this one. With my FH2 gallery, I would post on Friday and have what I referred to as ”Teaser Tuesdays”. I’d like to stick to a two-post a week schedule, but that may prove to be a bit much for me. I’ll see how it goes. The two days for these posts are up in the air, as my school life is not ideal for maintaining the current format, but we’ll see. So far I’m thinking Wednesday for the update, and Mondays for the Teasers.

MY FORZA HISTORY
I’ve already gone over this before, but my Forza story begins with FM4. My friend bought it and we alternated races and had a lot of fun with it, but that was before I owned an Xbo x 360. I got one shortly after that but never got around to picking up FM4, but I did get FH as a Christmas gift after its release, and I enjoyed my time with it. The thing is, I’m a poor racer, an even worse designer/painter and I can’t tune for beans. But I still loved Forza, so I turned to photography as my way of standing out from my friends, who race and drift and tune to their heart’s content. I’m happy just snapping pictures and posting them here.

FORMAT
The layout I plan on using for this thread is pretty simple – this first post is an introduction to me and chance to familiarize with the formatting and my character. The second post is going to be an attempt at a table of contents, but if it doesn’t turn out as planned, I’ll turn it into a real-life photography section. The third post will be my “Wall of Fame” where I’ll post my photocomp winning pictures, both from Turn 10 and the contests run here on the forums. Finally, the fourth post will be my first scheduled update, and we’re off from there.

Due to my love of writing, I have two distinct styles that I’ll try and focus on. The first will be found in my content posts, where I’ll try and give a review on the car that is the central focus of the update, and I’ll add some music that will vary as much as my tastes allow, and then finally the pictures. The teaser post will be used to catch up and socialize with the folks on here, mainly responding to comments. I’ll probably mention what’s going on in my life in these posts at some point or another, so don’t be alarmed if things aren’t as professional as my other work would lead you to believe. I use the teaser/response post as a chance to step away from the content and interact with the fantastic people on here.

ADVICE
I am by no means the best person when it comes to giving out advice for photography, or racing, or tuning, or painting. But I do know a thing or two about the odd thing or two, and I encourage any and all newcomers to ask questions. Everyone has been in your shoes at one point or another, and I’d like to extend a warm welcome and help out the rookies. Don’t be afraid to ask; I’m normally a pretty open guy.

With all that said, welcome to my gallery! I’m now officially open for business!

Cheers,
Ace

Hi everybody!

I’m back! Did you miss me? No? Okay, back into my hole I go…

I jest. I missed this place, and I missed sharing my content. I missed winning photocomps (still waiting, T10) and interacting with people here. But I’m back in business, and here goes my first post. If you’ve read the revised original post, then you’ll know that the update posts are going to be professional reviews with music and the comment-replying posts will be a more informal chance to catch up and interact with the commentators.

This week’s main star of the show is the 2003 Nissan 350Z: one of my absolute favorite cars ever. My obsession with the car begins at the start of my gaming and car-loving career, as the cover car for Need for Speed: Underground 2. I loved it then, and since I’ve come to the conclusion that my bank account will likely never be large enough to own my other favorite dream car (2012 Ferrari 458 Italia, in Rosso Fuoco, with a Giallo Modena tachometer and brake calipers, cream-leather interior;) I’ve made it my mission to own a 350Z in the next 5-10 years.

In real life, the 350Z has a reputation of being an underrated car, especially in the JDM scene. It gets swept aside by the likes of Supra’s, Lancer Evo’s, STi’s (the good kind), AE86’s, GT86’s, NSX’s, S2000’s and RX-7’s and 8’s. It’s swept aside from the limelight, and is sort of the automotive equivalent to the runt of the litter. This makes the car that much more desirable to me, because I love an underdog. It might not be one of the immediate contenders when you think of imports, but it should be. The results will surprise you in real life, and it’s in-game counterpart is no different.

The 2003 model features the 3.5 litre V6 engine that is found in many Nissan/Infinity vehicles, producing 287 horsepower and 273 pounds-foot of torque. It’s a bit on the heavy side for a small sports car, clocking in at 3310lbs, but it makes up for that weight with performance and very stylish design. I love the slope-back styling of the car, and the taillights that follow the curve of the roof-line seal the deal for me. It’s not to everyone’s tastes (several people prefer the more direct slant of the 370Z), but to me it’s absolutely mesmerizing. It has near-perfect weight distribution, at 53% in favor of the front, but consider the layout of the car. It’s a front-mid engined, rear-wheel drive sports car that has a six-speed manual gearbox in between. Considering the price of the car (26 000 CR in-game, $30 815 American IRL), it’s an incredible package. The cost is fairly minimal when you consider that this car is capable of being a track-day playtoy competing with Supra’s and Golf’s and MX-5’s, yet is also a very stylish daily-driver.

One of the car’s strengths in real life is it’s gearbox: many a reviewer has raved on and on about how precise it is, yet in-game it seems to suffer from the same issue that affects many other vehicles - the transmission sounds like you aren’t holding the clutch for long enough, and gears crunch and grind all the time. As near as I can tell, it does no damage to the car (though I can’t control anything on simulation steering and damage) but it does grate away at you. I found myself having to slow down my shifts just so that I didn’t have to hear the grinding noise. I’ve kept the car completely stock, and I enjoy driving it both in career and online races.

My verdict on the car is that this could be a bit of a sleeper - I haven’t seen many people use it online, but the ones who do use it always seem to place well. I’m well-aware that I am not a fast racer at all, but I’ve been able to push myself and set faster laptimes than I thought possible. Maybe I’m a bit biased with my history towards the car, but I do love it.

I found it fitting that since I’m featuring a Z car, that some ZZ Top would be in order for the music. I found Sharp Dressed Man to be a perfect match:

What’s your favorite shot? Comment your favorites and I’ll address all feedback when I next post.

Cheers,

Ace

Good to see you my man!
I’ll keep a close eye on this gallery and this one is my favourite so far

Really like this shot… has a bit of… grit(?) to it

I don’t know what that means but I like the photo anyways

Love that shot. Welcome back Ace

GOLD (ON THE CEILING)

Hi everybody,

It’s time for my next installment of Forzatography! Before I get stuck into the content, I’ll take a minute and respond to the feedback left from my first update.

REPLIES

I’m glad you like the shot, man. For me, I love the calm feeling of the photo. I think the reflection in the puddle might contribute to that, but the pic seems to be less manic than some of the others. It could also be because it’s a still shot that’s relatively simple. Thanks for the comment!

I love this shot too man! I think I know what you mean by grit - the car doesn’t seem to be as pristine as most of the shots I take. The dent in the door and far end of the rear bumper help convey that. Truth be told, I’m an awful driver, and those dings were probably put there by me, but for the moment I plead the fifth. Thanks for the comment man! Much appreciated.

Firstly, thanks for the comment. Secondly, I love that shot too - probably my favorite one from the set. Thirdly, it’s good to be back. Finally, I know I’m going back a bit, but congrats on winning your battle against cancer! I’m so sorry I didn’t say something sooner.

This week’s update features the 2014 BMW M4, which as you can probably guess from the title, is in Austin metallic yellow. To me, this is the best colour choice available on the M4 - it’s an unbelievably ugly colour that shouldn’t work on any vehicle, yet somehow it does. I’ve seen it on an M6 Gran Coupe, and it’s not a pretty result; so this edges Yas Marina blue in my eyes. I’ve always liked the styling of the M4, but the change of engines from the E90-series of M cars made me nervous. Could an F82 top it’s predecessor? Or would it be relegated to the shadows? The answer for me is a definitive mark in the “yes” column.

The engine is amazing - who knew that an 3-litre inline six engine with twin turbochargers could be better than a 4-litre naturally-aspirated V8? The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is much better than previous DCT, but the E92 does have the better six-speed manual gearbox. In some cases, old is better than new. You could make the argument that the E92 M3 is a more superior vehicle, with a naturally-aspirated V8 and an incredible manual gearbox; and for the most part I’d agree with you. But to me, there is one area that the previous generation will never beat the current variant - styling.

In my belief, styling is the most important part of the vehicle. A car can have an incredible engine, the best gearbox available, perfect weight distribution, etc. but if the final product looks like a Lego creation cobbled together by a six-year old, who is going to buy it? It has been said that first impressions are everything - we make our minds up in the first minute or so; and as we all know, it’s hard to overturn a bad first impression. To my eyes, the M4 looks like an M car should - aggressive, brutal and dominant, but subtle enough to live with everyday. The sharp lines of the headlights; the front and rear diffusers; the rims - all of these things separate the M4 from it’s everyday cousins. But it’s relaxed-enough to not stand out all the time. That’s where I think the M4 has the edge over the E92 M3 - the M3 is too “bleh” in my eyes; there’s no features that make it “pop.”

And for that reason, despite the engine and gearbox options, I’d rather own an M4.

Which shot was your favorite? The last one is the stand-out for the set for me. Looking forward to the comments on this set!

That photo is taken from the lagoon not far from my college campus. There’s something pretty calming about it. What do you think?

Cheers,
Ace

Awesome write ups and pics! Definitely gonna keep an eye for updates here.

These two pics are my favorite so far.

Thanks you Ace and there is absolutely no need to apologize

This is my favorite from this set -

Oh man those M4 shots are making my mouth water!! Awesome work mate!!

So let me get this straight, not only do we get to see some awesome M4 shots, but we get an awesome write-up of the car too? Awesome way to spoil us Aces :stuck_out_tongue: Nice work.

Try and not have too much fun. Or you will be filling out your own insurance papers. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lovely M4 shots!

Loving this shot Ace

Seems sort of animated for want of a better word
Ill be looking forward to the next update

Very nice gallery here, i look forward to seeing more from you

Nice to see you returning to the forzatography malarky Ace.

Great shots of the bimmer mate.

Interesting pic. I think it looks kinda sinister, like a creature/monster is breaking out or has already done so.

Couldn’t have captured this car any better, great work.

Thank’s so much guys for the feedback. Quick update - no, I have not forgotten about you. School is kicking into high gear - the last three weeks have been filled with projects, presentations, tests and the dreaded midterms. The plus side is, next week is my break week, and I should have some content coming your way. Just trying to decide which set I should upload first - Hyundai Genesis/Jaguar F-Type/XKR-S GT; or Lamborghini Aventador? I’ll leave it up to you to decide.

Cheers,
Ace

I’d like to see Hyundai Genesis
