Update 20: Shift in AI Behavior in Free Play and Career Mode

I’m playing on Xbox Series X and usually stick to the lower AI difficulty settings (2-5). Since Update 20, I’ve noticed a significant shift in AI behavior, especially during the first lap.

Whenever I get off to a slow start or maintain a pace lower than my opponents, the AI consistently crashes into me from behind and relentlessly pushes forward at full throttle—often to the point of forcing me off the track. It doesn’t attempt to steer around me, ease off the gas, or brake; instead, it seems locked onto the rear of my car like it’s stuck on rail tracks, continuously giving me a shove.

On the same note: At the start of a race, the car(s) ahead of me still accelerate with the speed and precision of F1 champions. For instance, on Fujimi Kaido, the AI gains a lead of over 10-15 seconds right from the start. However, at around the 1:30 mark of the first lap, it suddenly seems to recognize that it’s set to a lower difficulty level and noticeably slows down.

To summarize, after the first lap, the AI’s behavior stabilizes—it starts driving at a speed more appropriate for the lower difficulty settings and refrains from aggressive bumping or pushing.

I also played Forza Motorsport on my dad’s PC using his profile after Update 20, and the same issue occurred. This level of AI aggressiveness in the first lap on lower AI difficulty is completely new to me. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ll have to pay more attention to this week’s career event for overly aggressive AI. I did, however, notice that many of tge AI opponents were swerving and wobbling around the track in front of me and it definitely wasn’t like that before the update. Each race seemed to have AI drivers that were drunk apparently! I know they addressed some AI issues with this update but I’m wondering if the updated model also let in some bugs to their behavior.

I didn’t notice any obvious changes, apart from the fact that the steering assistance (when activated) did seem to take a smoother trajectory to reach the ideal line. This implies that they have indeed enabled multi-line, although I don’t perceive otherwise.

On the other hand, the problem has been the same since day 1: the top 3 cars in the race get off to a flying start in the first 60 seconds, unless you deliberately hit them at the first corner when possible, otherwise you’re off.
After that, the car idles and has no competitiveness whatsoever! (If you play in the least aggressive mode and on the easiest difficulty… the leading trio always make a missile start)

I just finished this weeks tour, FM2, the AI was atrocious in the Sebring race, as they kept rear ending me in the curves. I still see a bit of erratic driving, but maybe I’m expecting too much. They still seem intoxicated to me!

For what it’s worth, when I did a race in freeplay to practice with sim steering, the AI was cranked to the max and they were extremely slow. This was in GT3 cars at Le Mans. They were crawling through turns and braking on the Mulsanne. I was 40 seconds ahead by lap 1 with a number of mistakes
