Absurd.
I agree individual tunings are better, but more than 90% of Forza racers have no idea how to do it.
Drows, I had no doubt what the response would be. With millions of copies of this game sold, right now, tonight there are less than a thousand racers running circuit and that number is going to go steadily down unless new blood can drive something that that can make it around the track. The Forza community is rough, but I love them anyway. Dust, roll bars have been updated. Set the roll bars however you feel makes the car run best.
I’ll tell you what, we’ll do the test.
I’ll take a car and run it stock, then run it with your setup and see which get me the best lap.
Choose the car choose the track (I like import and short track)
If I get better time with your setup, I wont say another word.
Use any track, any car, and any class. Anything else wouldn’t be Universal.
Well, I didnt want to bias the test with personnal preference
And it would’ve given you a reward as I used your setup, but sure I’ll do it.
The main problem here is you’re trying help the 99% and it’s mostly the 1% hanging out in these forums. So you are going to get a little bit of that “I know better…” attitude.
“I know better” works when the people actually give a reason as to why and a counter. Just saying you’re wrong doesn’t do much good.
Camber like that actually worked, and in some cases zero camber worked quite well in FM4. In FM5 if you are below 2.0 you are doing it wrong, I use more than that.
Tire pressure stick 28 on everything to start then check it when everything else is done to make sure you aren’t running stupid temps (over 230). Pretty much want 33-35 psi when hot.
Should always start with zero toe, it masks problems in a tune.
Caster is fine
Roll bars are whatever, probably does work on most cars but I’d go 14/14 first.
Rebound 10/10, bump 2/2
Worm, thanks for the input. “Never does a man stand so tall as when he bends down to help others.”
^^if you cba to tune. thats what the sharefront is for
This is a very commendable thread, I’m certain it will help a few lost souls who don’t know where to begin.
Obviously not intended to get the last 5% out a car, but rather as a “it’s better than nothing”. That’s all most people really want in a casual online lobby.
hi does the spring calculations work? as im intrested to know if it applys to cars with 50/50 balance as i prefer more spring in the rear when 50/50 weight…also do you add the down force weights into the maths thanks
50/50 just makes the calculation easier. Both front and rear would wind up equal. Aero is not in the calculation other than the weight of the part in the total vehicle weight. This system is only intended to generate a universal base tune. It will not produce the ultimate fine tuned vehicle. I kept it very simple and easy so new players could become acquainted with tuning options and enter the settings themselves. Hopefully, that would lead to a hunger for a finer tuned car. The system is similar to a new worker being given a quick tour around the office.
thanks for response i tend to tune by feel and luck more than anything and i been breaking into top 500 on leader boards in b class and a class i just guess the spring and damper weights lol
I race R class so every little bit counts. I tune all my own cars and I’ll give you this…good job man. It’s really a good building point and maybe others might not agree but most people don’t even know where to start. All cars are different, there is no “one” tune and fine tuning takes time on the track. My base tune is a little more negative on the alignment (I start at 2.5-2.0) and I agree with you for the most part same for springs same on toe same on damp same on areo and different on differential…always a great starting point. Tuning is almost as fun as actually racing the car.
i have been using the calculations for springs and as a result im knocking over a second off lap times in test drive many thanks for all the info from all as i take a bit here and there from all the threads especially the camber settings as they have to be very high compared to forza 4!! keep the info coming i will crack top 100 leader boards soon
Needless to say this was a smart approach in order to pick the brains of the people on the forums without having to ask a lot of questions. And you keep telling people to have fun and kept a great attitude that is a great way to make friends and learn from those that know.
What an insightful thread. I’m glad I’ve taken the time to read it. I’ll come back another day and try those settings out. Good stuff indeed!
And have fun!!
Nice job. I use a similar method for setting up my base tuning for springs. Together with the suggestion from Worm this can be a good starting point for people. I mad a video of how I setup a base tune here - Forza 5 Tips and Tricks - How to Create Base Tune - YouTube
I just want to thank the many tuners who have posted or private messaged me with suggestions and tips. I would humbly suggest that , for new players, Turn 10 would include a “no collision” public circuit hopper identical to the current hoppers, only changing to collision off. This would make the transition to the hard core lobbies seamless. This would not be for hardcore racers, but a place the rookie racer could easily find human competition without race ruining collisions. It would in effect be a “wading pool” that would make beginners feel like Forza 5 was a great game as well as a great simulation. In reality, many experienced racers would also like to test their skills against other human racers without fear of interference. “Collision on” racing is still the ultimate test, but can easily frustrate (griefing and running the track in reverse) someone new to the game. I understand that this would be “glorified hot laps”. The human element would add the dimension of fun competition. We need to cultivate the beginners to make the community thrive and grow. Again, I want to thank everybody for everything.
