Unicorn: 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III

Mate, you don’t ‘grind my gears’ I’m certain it was just an honest oversight. But what foes annoy me is, that many of us pit s great des
Of info into our replies. Many of us answer the initial question as rapidly as possible, and I’d hazard to say that close to 90% or more of the actual questions are answered either by a gamer, mod or a community team person all within the first page, or at spworse, the second.

Then we settle back and there’s a nice amount of banter, discussion, daly trolling by some twerps, and then several pages in, someone sees the thread heading and jumps straight in and asks the obvious, without even bothering to read even one of the posts, or glance through the first few pages.

You don’t need to read them all,as a cursory glance can get through them quickly.

I just saddens me that we seem to have lost touch with basic communication, writing (correct English) civility, and above all, the ability to accept others simple mistakes.

Perhaps it’s just my age creamy in. Of well, off to do my Census us Australia’s must do. The entire country has to fill out the census…hmmm doesn’t bode well for the reading-challenged heheheh lol

TBH, I’ve looked at that thread pretty closely, and it isn’t entirely clear what “participation” means; I assumed it means you need to lay down a clean lap in Rivals (as has previously been the case), and maybe finish at least one league race in order to earn the cars? I thought I knew, but now OZ is here saying that just doing a lap in the event isn’t enough.

Colour me, once again, confused.

this should help

GthoI just got mine an it looks great! If you like the turn 10 livery don’t repaint or you’ll lose it. D class 342, tops out at 129 on Mt. Panorama. The factory paints seem inaccurate, all the stripes are black on all color cars.

If? I’m not mistaken, there were three colours available, and they changed depending on the base colour, which there were a selection of.

The colours I believe we’re Black (of course), an Orange and a Gold.

Some dealers put together their own post production kits, one of which created the SuperRoo. This was Peter Warren’s signature GT and had a cartoonish kangaroo and a complete wheel ( tyre and rim). It had reds, blues and black as well as the base colour of the Roo as Orange.

I got mine as well, but the paint just doesn’t suit the heritage of these beasties. And, unless you’ve been in one, both as a passenger and a driver, then you’ll never get the sheer gross HP these puppies delivered, for a street registered and driven production vehicle in Australian conditions.

They did really well in Enduro York aves, both circuit and multi surface races across OZ… A true Australian icon…

The paint just doesn’t suit the shape of the car, but hey, I’m definitely NOT looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Really appreciate the car Turn 10, great job.

Now I’ll just have to do a factory stripe set for it, and hope I get another for this weeks FORZARC Elite series. I actually bit the bullet late last night and gave the league a whirl.

I must have struck a vein of gold. I kid you not. Just a really decent few racers, a couple of clowns, but overal, in the small 7 and then 8 car field, it is was relatively trouble free once you got yourself into the groove, and also got some separation.

But when we were close, the leaders behaved nicely, the ppl in the back occassionally mucked up.

I think I was online when most were in bed?

FM6 has 12 manufacturer colors of the 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III. I see those 3 colors as well as an additional 9 colors when I stripped the livery off of one of my 3 Falcon XYs(I was sent an extra 2 due to the photo and livery contests): 2 shades of red, bronze, green, 2 shades of blue, purple, silver, and white.

The White is called Polar White, the purple Wild Violet, the two blues are one solid light to mid blue, the dark blue is a metallic. The Red is actually one Red, the other is Burnt Orange if I’m not mistaken, the Green is a dark green metallic, the bronze is, well, bronze lol, while the silver is a very strong gunmetal metallic. (I’m out do I’ll put the proper colours in later to the all mate) THE stripes came in 3 colours if I recall as mentioned above, but I’ll double check.

I had a Custom Paintshop back in the early 70’s to mid 80’s and several crossed my workshop floor for one reason, or another.

The colours Aldo ran in the earlier Phase I, the Phase II, plus the X-RAY and XT GTs, which were Aldo brutally awesome in their own right.

It’d be great if we saw some of the full range of Australian Ford GTs. There were many pretend versions sold at dealerships. But you couldn’t miss the Phase III due to the huge air filter box coming out the bonnet, from factory. It was aptly named Shacker or Shackers when discussed with petrolheads lol.

Tee have the second of the following GTs in the game, namely the XB, but there was one previous called the XA.

I’ll hunt down the correct names of the factory colours. Come to think of it, it’d be great if the colours were mentioned when we purchased cars in the game. Just say in the spec sheets etc. giving details of the cars from factory.

This would apply to ALL cars in Forza… Just a thought.

Judging by those skid marks in the pic, you misjudged the end of the Big Dipper and slammed into the wall mate? Looks like you’ve rewound the vid to that point. They are a handful, so anyone can misjudge those beasts.

I somehow missed the wall that time. The GTHO is certainly going to have plenty of authentic liveries available soon. My family lived in Perth in the mid 80s and I really appreciate Australian cars from that era. The size of the cars just seems so right compared to the odd Torino or Chevy you’d see. Horizon 3 will hopefully have plenty of Australian content in addition to what’s been announced.

Looks more like Forests Elbow.

Yep, you could be right, that’s the last left coming out of the bends into Conrod… That wall has been altered from when the game first came out.

They had a solid wall, right to the end, but now there’s a layer of tyres in the last 3/4, then the last 1/4 is all tyres.

It sort of absorbs the shock, so long as you don’t hit it at anything over 10-15 dregs.

Have you found that (both of you?)

If you want to pop me on friends list, we could pop onto the last few days of FORZARC Championship rivals at anything past 9pm. Tere’s almost no one there then. I’ve had about 7-8 races now, with no more than 8 at any one time, the lowest being 4. Most of the gamers are okayish, but nothing like the full blown wreck feast.

I’ve won one, come second in a few, third in another, but once you separate from the few, you can lay down some clean uninterrupted laps. Just a thought for any Aussies out there after 9pm.

The Holden and then the Australian Ford were purpose built for Australian conditions starting in 1946, with the first car rolling off the Fishermans Bend production site in late 1948. The 215 FX. The ute offered in H3 is the same year, not a 50’s model. The code they quote is for the Utility model designation. Not its year of manurfacture.

There were only two models made available in that series, the FJ that followed had two sedan models, a utility and a panel van. But no station wagon, but some industrial ppl converted the panel vans to house rear seats.

Ford followed several years later.

There’s one man to thank for Holdens bring here. American General Motors wanted their tanks here, but they just could not deal with our roads, the huge temperatures and weather conditions, as well as road conditions. It was Hartleys enthusiasm and determination that eventually hot America to drop its hold on he whole thing, and a stand alone company was formed with he.coach building family, the Holdens if SA.

Jensen the name GM-H. There’s two books you should read that will really open your mind as to how Holden was born, and Aldo how Ford did the same thing later on.

But the humble Holden paced the way for strictly Australian built and Australian owned cars.

If you want the name if those books (anyone), just PM me send I’ll give you their details.

I ended up with 2, so I can keep one with the livery and the other one can be repainted to my liking  A few things to note, am I the only one who thinks the driving lights are mounted too high? Also it seems the performance specs are based off of the “factory” numbers, rather than the “true” figures (224kW as opposed to something like 280-290kW). Certainly I imagined this car could hit 250kph on Conrod Straight and not the 210 it manages now

What I wish we could do is add vinyls that were matte when the car itself is not, so we could recreate the bonnet blackouts ourselves for example.

EDIT: A race camshaft takes it to exactly 291kW and a race gearbox with the ratios from Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III Technical Specifications can get this thing going just over 250kmh down Conrod Straight

Yeah mate, Unique Cars have ALL the right data for ANY Aussie car, whether it’s a race breed beast like these or your casual Chrysler Valiant Slant Six.

The "Driving " lights were actually in line with the grill, so just have a cursory look, they seem to be at the right position.

They never came with low slung ‘Fog light’. Thet many mistook for Driving Loghts.

You still had Hi and Low Beam in the single headlight, but the “Driving Lights” were 100 watt units, otherwise know as “Airaplane Landing Lights” at the time.

I’ll definitely be doing the correct gear and transmission changes mate, so thanks for the tips.

I’m about to take delivery on my FG X XR8 6 speed in Gold. Can’t wait to get into it. There’s a great wright up on both the latest Commodore and the XR8 Sprint, but there were only 750 of them made sadly. And ALL went before they were finished being produced.

I got my two as well, and hopefully I’ll grab another soon, fingers crossed.

But add these to my Torana, Commodore and Ford Gt garage, I’ll be a happy camper.

I have to trim down my garage, yet again, shedding the surplus nuisance cats that real
Y do nothing for the franchise.

One has to ask, if the garage limit is currently 600, and they delivered well over 650 cars, and they aren’t finished with the ESL FORZARC thing yet, do there’s more cars on the way.

Come the next iteration , what are we going to do as the number obviously expands even further.

Or… Will they then limit the number of cars, and restrict them to true race breed cars, rather than ones that are the ‘Normal Rides’ but end up being soured up?.. Interesting question actually… You thoughts (anyone)???

This a great link explaining the actual differences between the REAL Shackers, and the more common GT.

The 31 splint rear axles were the choice for race driven HOs, as well as thet taller 3:9.1 rather than the more common 3:55.1 as the former got you off the line faster, and when combined with the second optional gear box, you could achieve 75mph I. First gear without too much trouble.

The XB Cobra was a rare beast, and definite not the one that’s available in the game. the Cobra was a spinoff from the American Shelby Cobra Mustang of the same time period.

Oh I’m aware the driving lights are mounted on the grille, it’s just that from a front on view they seem a little high; I thought they should be exactly in line with the headlights.

Sounds like a nice little collection you have there

They m9ght have simply lined up slightly to the top edge of the chrome grille bezel.

The “fog light/driving light” we’re mounted via brackets that bolted to the 5adiatior support panel, then stuck through two slots in the grille.

Then the light is bolted to the bracket, thus raising the light slightly from the lower bezel. Making them sit slightly higher than dead centre in the grille.

Do a google Tor Ford GTHO driving lights, then select images, and you’ll get a plethora of images to check out.

You’ll also notice the Super Roo driving light covers that WERE FACTORY OPTIONS, contrary to what someone questioned me on. The images clearly show the Super Roo logos on the driving lights, along with the Ford parts numbers and boxing

But that aside, you’ll see plenty of shots showing the light positions, and where they mount through the grille.

The XR GT actua;lay had a proper GT grille WITH the opening for the driving lights. Sadly the XW and XY didn’t have those. Don’t know why though.

Additionally, you might see a Ruby Red (Vermillion Fire) XA Ford GT in some of the images on the first page of results from the above search.

That’s the XA GTHO Phase IV that slipped through the sales grid, which is also the only Factory Ford released XA Phase IV.

The other 3 were used in the mock ups for the Bathurst 1000. There were several crates of parts, which included instrument clusters, interior squabs, door trims etc, plus several body shells left, and they ended up in the hands of prudent Ford collectors. One of whom was one of our club members back then.

Some of which were eventually finally built. Adding to the original 4 cars made by Ford.

Hope that helps…

I missed my Gold Ford X XR8, due to slow settlement period of my dads estates. But I’ve hunted another down, that’s in my state, and another in Queensland, so hopefully I can swing onesie those my way.

Finding manual models is harder than Pi;ping teeth from a chicken. There are around, but tens of thousands of miles away. One or two in Victoria, a few in Queenslamd, and a spattering in NSW.

I’ll be glad when the game comes out, it won’t be as hard to get an XR8 then that’s manual lol. For some reason, ppl love automatics these days. Give me a great manual gearbox anyway, in real life of course. Nothing wrong with sports 6 speed suits, but when you have to run in a manual, it’s just not the same kick in the pants type of experience.

I got the messages that I had received 2 gift cars. I downloaded them, but they do not appear anywhere in my garage that I can find. I did a hard reset of the console, but still no cars. I am way below the garage limit, and just for kicks, I purchased another car, and it appears in my garage.

[EDIT} One more reboot fixed the issue so all is well.

The car sounds great too!

So I just have to do one race in Leagues to get the car, or do I have to sign up to the website as well?

Here’s some really interesting tech information for the great GTHO lovers out there. This is about the various colours, and even though Turn 10 have only listed 12 I think, ??

They even got some details about the Holden really wrong with its production date, hope the same doesn’t happen with other various vehicles… Anyhow…

There in in fact 16 and came in very small numbers. There was only ONE Black GTHO Phase III ever build by Ford Australia. There were some very interesting colours that would probably NEVERTHELESS been seen in mags or anywhere, as the list will explain.

The GTHO and GTs came with 3-5 different coloured striping packages as standard, explained later in the post. Plus an alloy badge on the front gaurd just behind the front wheel arch and on the rear of the bootlid. GT High Performace 351. The Phase III. (and its siblings from the XR, XT, XW), which were actual GTs, as there were TWO. Versions. The GT, and the Special Order GTHO Phase III.

The stripes were:-
Black
Orange
Silver
White
Red

But please note, due to the very VERY scarse nature of some of the GTHOs, the well known stripes are the most common naturally. So some will say there’s just one, some say three, while some know that due to the 15 colours, more than 3 coloured stripes were needed, obviously.

The Phase IIIs were an optional package and were known as “Shakers”, due to the fact that the air cleaner had a very smooth finned black air intake extending out the bonnet due to the semi high rise manifold compared the the GTs lower intake manifold. On idle, it literally shook like crazy as the Cam on the Phase III was quite lumpy.

There were only 500 real Phase IIIs built from the factory, while the GTs had a little over 1200 odd made during their limited production run.

There were in fact, 16 factory colours for the GTHO Phase III, plus the the GTs of the same year. The GTHO stood for GT with the high Horsepower Option. As they were VERY similar actually.

Colours listed below include their actual Dulux Paint Factory Paint codes and are marked as ‘S’ which denotes Solid Paint, and are listed first.

The next list have ‘M’ which denotes Metalic Paint. Additionally, some went by some more commonly known names. Which over the years has caused much confusion with owners, novices, or those with enough pennies to rebuild theirs from a wreck. But those wouldn’t be “Originals” as there were only as little as ONE car made in certain colours.

The VERY last number indicates the ACTUAL number of cars made by Ford.

1: S. Vermilion Fire (aka Burnt Orange). Code: EZ814. 68
2: S. Raw Orange (Aka Burnt Orange). Code: EZ821. 7
3: S. Track Red. (Candy Red -Red). Code: EY348. 23
4: S. Yellow Ochre. (Orange) Code: EY415. 37
5. S. Yellow Glow. (Canary Yellow). Code: EZ820. 7
6. S. Monza Green (…). Code: EY407 23
7. S. True Blue. (Sky Blue - light Blue) Code. EL813. 5
8. S. Vintage Burgundy (Maroon) Code. EY277. 1
9. S. Onyx Black (Black). Code. EY426. 1
10. S. Ultra White (Polar White/code EZ156). Code. EZ801. 39

  1. M. Bronze Wine. (Gold). Code. EZ808. 8
  2. M. Nugget Gold. (Bronze - Gold). Code. EZ810. 18
  3. M. Jewel green. (Monza Green). Code. EZ819. 6
  4. M. Wild Violet. (Purple - Code K). Code EL815. 6
  5. M. Frosted Pewter (Silver - Gold). Code. EZ823. 5
  6. M. Electric Blue (…). CodeEZ812. 11

I trust this helps ppl know more about one of our iconic high performance vehicles. The GTHO Phase III was ranked as THE most powerful production motor vehicle ever produced. Even the last Ford X XR8 GT, also only a run of 500 were made, has similar ponies, but the current iteration runs the power torque curve much longer. While the Phase III was just a brute power horse.

Anyhow, enjoy, and use the info to paint replicas of the real cars please.

It’s what I’ll be doing with my Phase III.

Enjoy… OZ

Why would you make it unicorn car bring it out on dlc the rest of the world wouldnt even know what it is anyway xy gt not a very smart decision please bring it out in the next dlc for Australians i cant even do league racing anyway cant ever get into lobby
