this has happened to me twice now where some random person is added to my friends list who is always online and is like level 900 or something ridiculous and no matter what i do his drivatar is unbeatable and will pass you and just keep getting farther and farther ahead. if this has happened to you how do i make it stop?
yeah i got friend drivatars that are like that, i tried to lower the drivatar level but it seems to only work for the drivatars that are not your friends, its harder but you got to suck it up and keep at it. I actually got better because of this, when i actually race my friends they can tell a diff from before
I’m not a big fan of the drivatar system. I don’t feel it works properly regardless of the setting.
Here’s my example. In Career mode for the Modern Muscle Car Championship the cars are fairly equal. Most of them in their stock trim have little upgrade room to keep them as a class B car. So I enter this event with a 2013 Shelby GT500. There were many races where during the first or second lap on long straight stretches another GT500 or Camaro ZL1 would overtake and pass me as if they had a 200 shot of NO2. No matter what difficulty, those cars should be of near equal speed to each other.
Yeah, no matter what difficulty you play on, your friends will be in your race, this can be good or bad, but I hear a lot more of the bad.
My best suggestion is either start taking second (you get gold for 1-3, and I don’t think there is a single difference other than the number on your screen at the end of the race.) or give him an aggressive vehicular hug.
download a better tune. a better tune makes all the difference. then run them down and pass them back. look at the leaderboards and see what the top car is. download the tunes and run them for 20-30 laps seeing how much you can improve and if you feel like you didn’t put a whole good lap together. if you feel like you got everything you can out of that tune download a different tune. eventually you’ll get one that matches your driving style. and if you have asissited breaking on turn it off. it automatically slows your car down when it dosn’t need to costing you seconds a lap. your subconscious will pick up breaking within half an hour usually. when i first tried unbeatable i was thinking “what the heck”. now its “i’ll wait for you at the finish line.”
Regardless of difficulty, the game picks a couple people to be your main rivals, one of them in particular who is meant to give you the most trouble and who will lap faster than the rest of the field. You cannot change this. Remember how you get gold not just for first place but for top-three? While we all want to finish first, we are meant to be battling for position from start to finish, and you aren’t expected to always succeed in placing first. The guys giving you the most trouble are meant to do exactly that because you are supposed to be struggling with them to the very end and maybe fail to defeat them.
Here’s a problem I just discovered that to me is a bug. I’ll use 2 players as the example though it’s not just them that are the problem for me. I kind of jumped in the deep end without fully knowing how to swim. In the “Want people to follow you” thread I added a few people and then added even a few more based off their reputation or times. This turned out to be a mistake for me. Depending on the track I’ll adjust my drivatar difficulty anywhere from above average to pro but with the new drivers from my friends list above average became fairly challenging and pro is now ridiculous. Now that may not be a bad thing, however…
I’d consider myself a fairly casual player due to time availability. I just don’t have the time to sit down and become an expert and I’m content with that. Overtime I’ll get much better but for now I still need to take it slow. So I decided to revert my friends list back the way it was and stop following the drivers that are clearly better than I will likely ever be. That way the game will assign my drivatars around my rival level like it used to, or so I thought. Doing this had 0 effect on the drivatars that appear in my races. I still have IceMan PJN and TG Wormburner finishing 1-2 in every single race unless it’s on above average and then I can maybe challenge for 2nd. Typically what happens in my races is that I can usually get ahead just before the 2nd lap but once those two manage to make it through traffic and break free, they chase me down rather quickly.
removing them is not enough, I heard you need to block them,
besides: what did you expect from adding worm to your friends list if you are a casual player? lol
I’ve only been playing FM:5 since the week after Christmas having never owned a 360 prior to my Xbone and it seemed like a really good idea at the time. Like I said I jumped in the deep end without knowing how to swim
If Blocking them works then that’s what I’ll need to do, but won’t that also block any tunes they have available as well? (with the exception of worm’s grip tunes).
That’s what exactly happens to me. I’m currently working through the Modern Sports Car series and on tracks with long straights Worm or Iceman blow by me by a good 10-15mph faster on lap 2 yet we are driving the exact same car(ZL1).
instead of dropping and blocking your friends, just disconnect the console from the internet while your racing in career, this will keep your friends drivatar from entering the race.
Yeah 3rd is the new 1st, I only race on unbeatable and come 3rd just about every race, Now and then i can make 2nd and 1st but it makes no difference what position you come in as long as your in the top 3.
A lot of the advice in this thread is really good and I encourage anyone having trouble with drivatars to heed it.
The entire difficulty system is very granular when you consider assists, car builds, and tunes. It is no simple task or achievement to master every aspect. The assists, for example, may seem to make your car perform better, and to a point, that’s true. But they are a very betraying double edged sword, because more than half of the assists only make YOU perform better by slowing you down! If you master driving without assists, you WILL drive considerably faster. Fact!
Start slowly by turning off one assist at a time until you learn to drive without it. By the time you can leave them all off, you’ll be leading the pack of “unbeatable” drivatars.
If after all that, you’re still struggling to get in front, you’ll have to take a hard look at your car build, and tune. In the end, challenges are opportunities to improve.
I’ve noticed that friend drivatars have the ability to catch up to you REALLY fast as well…way quicker than the rest of the field. Oh well…keeps races more fun.
