Trying to tune!

I’ve been rolling with the '65 Mini for a while and when the new track came out I bought the car pack. I’m working on the 1956 Lotus Eleven. I’m trying to keep it in D class. This might not be the best car for this class but it’s a pretty cool car and this IS a game after all, so I’m just looking to have a little fun here and there.

I’m not good with tuning yet so I looked through the tuning guide at the top of this section and put this together. I’m wondering if any of you would like to check it out and give me some feedback. I was test driving on Road America West. I was able to get a time of about 1:35. I’m looking to boost that as much as possible. (My PB with the Mini was in the 1:28 range). Things that I’m noticing with this tune are that it’s slow to accelerate at times and it’s very loose around corners. It really wants to kick out. I don’t have time to troubleshoot it much more at the moment so I figured I’d let you all check it out. You can download my tune by searching for Flavaham. The name of the tune is “1st Attempt” or something like that. Or, you can use the open source below to tweak it and see what happens. I plan to tweak it quite a bit more and would like to know what you would do if it were your tune.

So, here’s the build/tune:

Build:

Engine:
Race Intake (air filter), Race Ignition, Race Valves, Race Pistons

Platform & Handling:
All Race w/ No Cage

Drivetrain:
Sport Transmission, Street Driveline, Racing Differential

Tires & Rims:
Stock Compound, 185/60R15 front, 195/65R15 rear, WedsSport TC 105 N Rims (anything that is -13 lbs I think works here), Stock rim sizes

Aero & Appearance:
Forza front bumper and wing

Conversion:
All Stock

The Tune:

Tires:
27.5
27.5

Gearing:
Final Drive 3.74

Alignment:
-3.1
-2.8
0.0
-0.2
6.2

Anti-Roll Bars:
28.54
15.36

Springs:
117.8
101.7
5.0
5.9

Damping:
8.8
8.5
2.2
2.2

Aero:
81
133

Brake:
51%
80% (I have a heavy hand so I always back this down a bit)

Differential:
72%
0%

So, there it is. I’m thinking that I need to up the rear Rebound Stiffness to help with cornering a bit. I noticed that a few times when it kicked out it was because I was on the curb in the turn, so maybe the wheels aren’t getting back on the ground fast enough(?). Some of these were somewhat blind calculations (Let’s see what this does!!!) so feel free to tear this tune to shreds!! It’s the only way I’m gonna learn! Also, if you have a solid tune for this car that you’d like to share it might help me to see what the car is supposed to feel like. Just a thought.
Thanks for the help guys!

Try a supercharger if you and if the pi allowance is there RPM Swerve suggested this for my mx5 was a massive improvement.

I was advised against supercharger a recently but I’ll try it out. When you put in a SC should you upgrade that first in engine upgrades?

Also, what class does this car really shine in?

Thanks again!

I haven’t ran the car yet but if the handling physics are anything like FM4 on this car just give up. It was the worst car to tune in Forza. It was all amounts of messed up in FM4 no matter what you did.

Hey Flavaham,
I was messing with this car earlier for C-class. Tried a couple of different build; one with stock motor and one with 2.0(spent a lot more time with this one). I am having a heck of a time with it. I was able to tame the rear a little bit, but it’s starting to feel dead. I ended up dropping the rear ride height and jacking up the front and dropping front aero while keeping some on the rear. I’d watch those dif settings- the low decel will help with turn in while your off the gas so if the back end is breaking loose on the way in to the turn it’ll get worse down at 0%. Higher accel numbers are going to have you losing grip when getting back on the gas. I’m just a hack so grain of salt, but lately I’ve been starting around 40/40 and adjusting from there. I think I ended up down around 5/20 or thereabouts.
I’ll definitely give yours a run. Thinking about the build; I didn’t really think it would run that well in D. That Mini is low on horse, but it grips crazy and I just don’t see that happening with this car. Maybe we could put our heads together and come up with something decent. If not move on to greener pastures and mess with something else. Sending a follow your way.

I have built mine in C class. I use it as my lobby handicap car.

From memory I lowered the car to close to min and increased the springs to close to 25% of total weight.

I also had close to the opposite diff settings compared to those in the op. I think it was something like 5/60. I will post the details when I get home.

It has produced respectable results in lobbies but is certainly a harder, slower car to drive.

reverse your spring rates and roll bar settings. Front to back and vice versa. Set the diff at acc 28% decel 32%

you need rear ARB stiffness at near max of 40, keep the front at around where it is, higher the spring stiffness a bit more than what it is probs around the 300 mark, damping I would put around the 11 mark with the rear slightly less, it doesn’t need the -0.2 on the toe I think it is ha, also the rear aero needs to be set higher, if you keep the standard engine it is very tail happy, got one in c class, probably a car I took the longest tuning, got a 2.01.7 around cat GP which would prob scrape a top 100 time, not my fav car and can be quite hard to drive.

not saying what I put above is right but it should help, ohh also your diff settings are way out, put down to around 25% accel, 17% decal and then adjust from there, same with the rest, if the car still feels out anyway just make slight adjustments, don’t go nuts

Damn…I just tried all of the above and I can’t tame this beast! Haha. I’m going to try another car that might be a little easier to drive for now. This may not have been the best choice to start out with. I’ll post the car and settings of the new one and hopefully get some more feedback.

Thanks!

I have run a 2.18.963 on Nurb GP in C class with the following:

Race - Air Filter, Intake Manifold, Valves, Displacement, Pistons

Sport - Carburetor

Race - brakes and both ARBs

Street transmission
Race driveline and diff

Street compound max width front and rear

Race aero front and rear

Tire pressure 29.5 / 29.5
Camber -2.5 / -2.2
Toe 0 / -0.2
Caster 5
arbs 30 / 20
Springs 225 / 150
ride height 4.9 / 5.8
Rebound 8/9
Bump 3.5 / 2.5
Aero 80/200
Brakes 48/107
Accel 1/decel 15

I will mess with it in a second.
