Traffic Cars

So it seems the final traffic list is pretty close to be this:

  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

  • Honda Beat

  • Nissan Fairlady Z 432

  • Mitusbishi Galant VR-4

  • Mitsubishi Montero Exceed

  • Honda Acty

4/10. Could be worse, of course (FH2-FH5 Traffic) but…I expected some more effort, these are just traffic versions of playable cars, 1 out of the 6 is a korean car, rare in Japan (And the N, which is ever rarer) and the remanining 5…old. Just old. Everything from the 90’s…or older.

A bit of a shame really, I did expect kinda this, but with at least 1 or 2 purpose-built traffic cars, such as a taxi for example…could be worse again I guess.

Where did you see an Ioniq at any point? I never saw one.

Developer_Direct video. A few were seen around Tokyo…maybe they were placeholders, maybe not…but anyway:

I see now. Doesn’t make any sense to have that as a traffic car, so I don’t know what the developers were thinking unless it is a placeholder, but c’est la vie.

Judging by this picture, I get a feeling the Honda e will also be a traffic car.

Makes more sense than the Ioniq at least. Now that was a strange choice for a traffic vehicle.

I really hope that with new cars being introduced some will be added to the roster of traffic cars. It makes zero sense why the Nissan Tsuru isn’t present in FH5’s traffic, yet is literally drivable for us players.

I guess recoding traffic is hard to say the least for any technical reason. I still remember the ‘ghost’ RAV4 from FH1 which was supposed to be seen in traffic regularly, but due to a bug it was never seen, and was never fixed.

I just hope there is still room for a surprise, but I guess the list won’t change much…if the Honda e replaced the Ioniq 5 N, well, that’s definitely a nice move…taking into account the e is also a rare car to come by in Japan, very few have been spotted in real life.

Well, the developers have never added a traffic car post-launch before. Just liveries on the Box Trucks, and I believe they only did that once to promote the Eliminator in Horizon 4, so I’m not surprised the Tsuru never became a traffic vehicle. In fact, the Tsuru not being in the game at launch is probably why the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 was a traffic car in Horizon 5, because it looked similar-ish to the Tsuru.

Speaking of the Galant, it was also supposed to be a traffic car in Horizon 4, but since there were licensing issues with Mitsubishi at launch, it was omitted from the game and never added back even when Mitsubishi eventually returned proper.

Well, based on the pictures and everyone else’s observations, we know these are more than likely official traffic cars on the list:

1984 Honda City E II
1994 Honda Acty
2022 Honda e
2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4
1995 Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero) Exceed 2800 TD
1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432
2014 Playground Box Truck

Even though we have not seen these yet, I suspect these will also likely be traffic cars as well since Playground likes to reuse assets, especially for traffic:

2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3
2014 Playground Bus
2014 Playground Flatbed
2018 Playground Gritter
2005 Subaru Legacy B4 2.0 GT
2008 Toyota Yaris S

It wasn’t used in Horizon 5 for some reason, especially odd since a large part of the Horizon 5’s map was dedicated to agricultural land, but this I think stands a decent chance at coming back as well, but not as likely as the above list:

2018 Playground Tractor

It probably will not appear, but this would’ve been nice to have as both a playable car and a traffic vehicle, specifically a taxi:

2003 Toyota Comfort TRD GT-Z Supercharger

And while I’m not one-hundred percent confident as to which one they will use, since we have a kei truck and a kei sportscar in the line-up, we will probably see a kei van traffic vehicle as well. So this section isn’t blank, my guess is this:

1989 Nissan S-Cargo

And so the traffic line-up isn’t entirely composed of just Japanese or Korean vehicles, I’m wagering my bets on these two as well:

1992 Mercedes-Benz 500 E
2004 Mercedes-Benz C 32 AMG

What is my list? Chopped liver?

The IONIQ 5 only really makes sense in Kyoto, where there’s a taxi company that mainly uses it, and I’ve seen some Kia and Hyundai cars there.
But you rarely see them in Tokyo. It feels strange to see two IONIQ 5 on the same screen.

The Honda e is also an extremely rare car in Japan.
(It sold so poorly that production ended after just 2.5 years.)

Replacing those IONIQ 5s with Teslas would make more sense, since they are the main choice for electric cars in Japan.

There might be some backlash from Japanese players if Korean cars are everywhere like this.

And there should be Prius everywhere.

Toyota Alphard or Vellfire,
Mazda CX-5,
Mazda CX-60,
Honda N-BOX,
Honda Stepwgn or Honda Freed,
Toyota RAV4,
Daihatsu Tanto,
Daihatsu Hijet,
Toyota Aqua,
Toyota Crown,
Lexus RX,
Lexus IS,
Nissan Sakura,
Suzuki Spacia,
Nissan Roox or Mitsubishi Delica Mini,
Mitsubishi Outlander,
Subaru Crosstrek,
Subaru Forester,
Mazda 3,
Toyota Sienta,
Toyota Hiace or Nissan Caravan,
Suzuki Alto,
Toyota Corolla Cross or Toyota Corolla Sport, and other Japanese cars that I frequently see driving around here. Also, as mentioned above, there are very few Chinese or Korean cars. American cars are also rarely seen.

A random thought for a traffic car improvement. FH6 is going to have ‘aftermarket’ or ‘iconic’ cars, like the yellow S2000 with the body kit we got to see in an IGN video outside of a racetrack.

What if some of these customized cars were sprinkled into the game’s traffic? It could become a fun new way to acquire these kinds of vehicles. Spot one randomly driving around, follow after it, maybe even get an impromptu race out of it, then have the option to purchase it. Would be far more dynamic than coming across these cars parked in a lot somewhere!

(Edit: Whoopsie, meant to reply to the discussion not Oka specifically!)

That’s a really interesting idea! I’d be so excited if such a feature existed!

Conversely, the non-Japanese cars I often see are BMW 1, 2, and 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz sedans and SUVs (I’m not very familiar with Mercedes-Benz models, sorry!), and I occasionally see Teslas as well. I also frequently see Volkswagen T-ROCs, Audi A1, 3, A4, and 5.

I think it will be easier to understand if you know the latest lineup of Japanese cars, so I’ve included links to each manufacturer’s website.

Anyone following this thread, please take the time to watch the new IGN gameplay video, it shows off a lot of the new traffic cars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8eBpXPp660 here is the link.

It seems like this is the currently confirmed lineup for traffic:

Seen driving:
-1988-1989 Honda Acty
-1994 Honda Acty
-2022 Honda e
-2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
-2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed3
-2013 Mercedes-Benz G 65 AMG
-1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4
-1995 Mitsubishi Montero Exceed 2800 TD

-2014 Playground Flatbed
-2005 Subaru Legacy B4 2.0 GT

Only seen parked:

Surprisingly, all of the licensed vehicles except the pre-facelift Honda Acty drivable from reports of the preview build, including the Mazdaspeed3 and the Legacy

I’m assuming the Wrangler is there only as a substitute for the Suzuki Jimny.

The Mercedes G Wagen is a traffic car in Forza Horizon 6, because Mercedes is Japan’s favorite non-Japanese car.
