Should I go lower for cooler tracks and higher for hotter?
The rule of thumb I was taught is every 10 degrees lower is best if you set the tire pressure 1 whole lower.
I do 29 PSI at 80 degrees and go from there. And of course none of them are exact in 5 digit incriments, but I get somewhere around there. I’m sometimes a bit lower than that even though.
But like I do 29.5 at Road America. Could maybe even go 30, but never tried.
Infineon and actually a lot of tracks. The ones in the 70’s, I could do 28. I sometimes do 27.5. So on and so forth. It does seem like it helps with grip. I’ve been too low at times though and it feels like I’m slipping. Like if I get down to 26 at the 70 degree tracks, it just feels loosey goosey more than I want.
So… that’s how I do it. And I was taught by someone else that seems to know his stuff real good. So…
I’m at 28 front and 28.5 rear seems to work well on the Ring and other tracks.
That’s probably about right for a lot of tracks, but obviously not all tracks are the same temp. When you get to the Bernese Alps you’ll really want to lower it. And then some of the American ones are hot, like Road America and Atlanta and Sedona. Then in A class Indy is like 60 degrees I think. But if you do it in C class it’s 80. Weird. Maple Valley is cooler too. Like 55. Or somewhere. And that and bernese alps really helps you stay planted in the long sweeping corners if your tire temp is gtg.
