I bought an app for my phone on the recommendation of several people here. It is ForzaTune 5 for the iPhone. For the most part I’m able to buy a car, max it up to the class that I want and use the app to tune and set gear ratios. It gives me a very drivable car every time and I’m starting to be able to meddle in online races here and there. Two things I could use help with from here are:
Some of these tunes, although they handle well, max out in top gear. What I mean is that it just can’t go any further and I’m stuck at a certain speed while other drivers pass. Did I screw up the gears or is this common? How do you fix this??
Although I’m able to meddle frequently now, I’m usually several seconds behind on lap time and obviously considerably behind on overall time. I know that there are a lot of people who know how to tune really well and are, probably more importantly, better drivers than me, I feel like I run some clean races and still can’t get near the better times. How can I start to get closer to those better times?
I decided to go down to D class and turn off all assists (with the exception that I’m not using a clutch). I’m running rivals and going for clean laps. Still quite a bit behind the top guys though.
This is my first go 'round with Forza. I didn’t really play with any regularity before this one (I did try another but I was terrible so I scrapped it).
Anyhow, thanks for all the help, tips and encouragement on here! It’s been a huge help! Now, trying to take the next step.
This posting is most appropriate for the tuning section. That said, the reason you are maxing out in the final gear is because your transmission settings have either been miscalculated or you didn’t apply the settings correctly. Adjusting the transmission is the only way to correct this.
Before you go buying sport or race transmission check and see how much PI it costs. Sometimes its 1 PI sometimes its 10. Unless the gears are messed up to begin with (Countach) it’s not always worth the PI.
For the most part I’ll only tune the final drive as whenever I’ve tried to tweak individual gears I mess up the ratio. If you tune the gears using the time stats there seems to always be an ‘ideal’ spot where you get max or close to max in 0-60, 0-100 and top speed. I usually try to find that spot and tweak from there if its shifting in weird spots on the track.
It’s a great application that gets you close to what you need but still needs to be fine tuned. The gearing is close also but can be tweaked alot sometimes. Also depending on the car you can only go so high on speed. Some are for handling and lower speeds. Others are high speed but lower handling.
there is no single tune thatt is going to win at every track. if i win at prague the same car is last at top gear. if it wins at top geaar last at prague. if it wins on old lemas its gonna be last at yas, etc… .an old lemas can do good at road america and spa. but you need a few tunes to cover the different track types.
Since ForzaTune isn’t an official app out of the T10-doors, why not “complain/ask” with the makers of it?
On a sidenote; I have several cars tuned myself that top out too quickly on tracks like Spa and Yas Marina; luckily they have the grip, handling and acceleration to match/overtake most other cars on the twisty bits.
FYI, no matter the tune you’ll be dusted for not using the clutch in D class. The acceleration boost you get between upshifts is critical in that class since you’re not dealing with high hp vehicles.
I was surprised it took so long to pick up on this one from the OP, the lower you go in Classes the more disadvantage you are at not using a clutch, set it to the A butting and just press it at the same time as you press gear up or down, its really simple to use and the acceleration you get means it has to be done
I agree with TG Tyrant and Swerve. Take a look at the PI points the race transmission requires. In D class, a lot of cars are much better with the stock, street, or sport trans. You can get the same speed with them, but free up PI points to add HP with. If you’re being passed on the straights, a lack of clutch has a lot to do with it in the lower classes. On average, I gained about 2 seconds per lap in D class when I started using the clutch. Could just be a simple matter of what the build is like on these other cars too. Take a look at their stats while you’re in the lobby to compare.
I’m not a big fan of that app. I have it and have tried it several times. IMO, it gives you a very mediocre tune. It may not be an issue with the gearing being wrong either, your car may just be underpowered and has a low top speed. If that’s the case, you have to make up time in the corners in order to win. Few races are won on the straights anyway. More often than not, its about your minimum speed, not your maximum speed. See the Mini for the perfect example…
I use Forza Tune as well to get a base tune setup and then tweak it from there and it usually does pretty good for me. As for the tranny setup, I don’t bother using the app and usually only put sport tranny on so I can adjust the final gear ratio. That said, there will be times when even with the best gear ratio, some cars just don’t have the speed.
a good tune will always have the speed, only its in the turns rather than the straights. those 70s f1 cars were removed from r class because although they didn’t have a high top speed they were glued to the track and could corner at top speed or near it. i hated them on tracks like yas because you would check your mirrors and see nothing was behind you go into the quick left right turns and hit something that wasn’t there. it was there just too short to see and it could sneek up inside you before you could even hear it. in x class the indy cars have a higher top speed than lotus, but on most tracks the lotus will still eat its lunch. its all about having the highest minimum speed once you put turns in the track and stop making it a drag race.
