Call me crazy, but I hate the way engine swaps and drivetrain swaps are handled in FH3. You can add AWD to a Plymouth prowler, a car with no front axle. V12s in Vipers…sure, how about a v12 AWD Corvette, sure. Engines/drivetrains used to be somewhat linked to a manufacturer but now it seems that they’ve (devs) gotten lazy with doing their homework and stopped giving us “Realistic” options. I feel that if a manufacturer doesn’t have a realistic/semi-possible AWD option to apply to a car, then it shouldn’t be allowed. I say we get back to applying some logic to these upgrades. What do you guys think?
Cool:
AWD 370Z, parts poached from G37x
AWD Charger, Chally - parts poached from AWD Charger/300/Challenger
AWD CTSV - pars poached from AWD CTSs w/3.6
…
In the past people posted on the forums “why can I not put motor xyz into car abc?”. You see in real life you can put a Toyota motor in a Nissan or vice versa.
In the game in the past you could not.
Now they went to unlabeled motors but we can work out which motor it is by looking at its stats etc. So why are they unlabeled?
I do not believe this has been confirmed but the strong suspicion is that the license holders do not want to see engines from other manufacturers in their cars in the game, so their labels have been removed. At this point it is not laziness…there are other reasons.
I will not suggest my complaint relates to laziness but it irritates the…why are some cars limited in what engines they can get which in turn limits their competitiveness? I say give us every option in every car.
Now the Plymouth Prowler example falls into my gripe above. To me this is a video game, not real life. I could not care less whether it has a front axle or not. I want all cars to have the same options in the game. I am sure in real life something could be done about that anyway.
My thing is that an AWD V12 Corvette is not a Corvette. I guess I’m a purist. If folks are allowed to do stuff like this then what’s the purpose of having licensed cars?
If an AWD Corvette is not a Corvette then what is it? Chevrolet and General Motors make AWD vehicles, they have access to one of the finest development teams in the world, is it had to imagine them deriving an AWD version of the Corvette? Especially now that they are actually considering (gasp, the blasphemy) a mid-engined Corvette or a hybrid Corvette with possible electrical motors to drive the front wheels?
OP: So how do you feel about using the 6.3L AMG engine in the Challenger and perhaps an AWD system from a modern Mercedes? I mean, considering the Challenger is still built around many Mercedes components? And some components carry over from the second generation which was basically a Mitsubishi, so now we can use Mitsubishi parts too. But wait… see where this is going?>>>
Or why not take any BMW and Toyota and allow us to swap parts since they’re working on project together as we type.
There is so much cross manufacturer sharing going on in the industry and as a private owner of these vehicles it is quite simple to take components from other manufacturers, third parties, or even to design them yourself to make your car the way you want. With a little bit of money and a little bit of time you can make any car on the road AWD or RWD or FWD, you could find a way to engine swap a considerable amount of engines into almost any engine bay - the viability of this is no problem. The question solely remains, do you have the desire, the time, and the money.
Forza allows us to do this with many cars for this exact reason. Well, this, and the fact that many many whined and moaned about getting this and now it’s an option.
In my book, I’d rather have the choice and opt not to partake than not have the choice at all. After all, this is a video game - let people do things they can’t do in the real world and have some fun. If you want to go play real world simulator, there are much mor expensive pieces of software and hardware that allow you to do just that.
First of all the Vette’s tranny is midmounted at the rear axle, so in order for a AWD system to be installed on a vette, they’d have to run a second driveshaft back to the front, then to a transfer case of some sort then out to the wheels. On top of all that there isn’t even an axle at the front wheels to connect some sort of driveline to. Even if they did manage to do all of that, they’d be no room for a DOHC v12 to fit under the hood. Heck, they had to install a powerdome on the hood just to get a blown pushrod V8 to fit. Imagine how much taller the hood would have to be to clear the higher heads that come with having an Dual Overhead Camshaft engine. So no, the v12 wont fit. Also, All we know is that there is a Mid engined vette coming, all other info at the moment is pure conjecture.
“carry over from the second generation which was basically a Mitsubishi”!!!No…i don’t. I’d be equally as cheesed because the Challenger and Charger don’t share as much with Mercedes as you think. They’re based on the early late 90s early 2k Chrysler LX platform with SOME components from the late 90s early 2k E class. (Firewall and rear suspension components). All of the Mercedes components predate the 6.2 by a few years. So that’ll make the LXs incompatible with the AMG 6.2.
Just because they’re doing joint development on ONE vehicle doesn’t make all of their components interchangeable
“With a little time and money”, is that’s all it’ll take to turn my Maggie into an AWD Lambo powered station wagon? If a little time and money is needed maybe i should’ve just bought a shell for $2k and ordered a Lambo v12 for $20k and shoved it under the hood of my Maggie and connected it to my $3k Mercedes AWD setup.
I tend to have the same thinking as you and every car I own and tune in game I do it like if it was my car in real life. In fh3 I have a awd Civic wich can be done with honda parts in real life with those from the same gen CRV. Anyway you all get the point. I would like to drag race someone with a v8 in muscle instead of stupid v12s. Not that I dont like V12 but in the proper car. Such a Shame havin a muscle car sounding like a lambo
While I agree that the ability to put an Aston Martin engine into a 80’s Monte Carlo is kinda redundant, the simple solution for me falls into an adage:
“Options are great but just because something is an option doesn’t mean it should become a reality.”
If you don’t like street rods sounding like jet engines (like myself), then tune it to your liking. If you don’t like racing those people, then there’s not much to do but race them. It’s a racing game that covers a ton of racing styles so if someone else is making their Nova sound like a Lamborghini, then that’s them. I just race and keep on going.
If anything, I want more options, not fewer. I want a FWD drivetrain swap so I no longer have to jury rig it with AWD and differential settings. I want engine swaps that are less powerful than the default engine on some vehicles. I want to put rotary engines where they don’t necessarily belong. I want fully adjustable suspension for my 3 wheeled vehicles.
The problem isn’t the upgrades, it’s why people use them. If they made rwd and tires actually work properly, then there would be no need to awd swap every car. I hate that I have to put a lambo v12 in muscle cars, but they somehow thought v8 aren’t capable of 1500hp. If these problems got fixed then the game would be better. Realistically you can make any car awd and possibly stuff engines in. Look on YouTube, people ls1 swap s2000’s.
I say the more options, the better. In fact there are times when I’ve upgraded vehicles just for the sake of seeing how creative/weird it can get. Are the three wheel vehicles able to be converted to AWD? Now that I’m typing that I’m wondering what that even does to the handling and performance. Might have to give it a try …
I’m completely disappointed by players actually requesting these things to be removed. More choice is not a bad thing in videogames.
What l’d hope for is balance. You should be able to kick equal amounts of ass in an l6, V8 and a V12. The AWDV12 is a meme already.
It would be cool if visual properties of the cars changed when engines cant fit below the bonnet.
For the impossible mods l just use my imagination. If you could put a V12 into the back of a Turbo 5 or over the wheel of a Reliant that might be a bit too much to swallow. But surely you can swap the entire engine and driveline system. Cut and weld enough space down there for most cars.
