Context is everything.
We moderators read/skim a lot of posts every day, almost assuredly far more than the rest of you, and even more so during a release window on a new title. As with every new release, there is no shortage of new posters appearing with names we do not recognize, low tier scores and recent join dates. A number of these posters recognize that they don’t have any real demonstrable history with the games and the forums and so, in an effort to try and make themselves appear more authoritative, like to find a way to shoehorn a claim of far more extensive experience into their posts. You can tell the claim is dubious because it sticks out like a sore thumb contextually (also because they mistakenly think that FM4 is the best game when anyone worth listening to knows it’s FM2).
Add to that the natural one-upmanship of young men fiercely competing with one another, so much so that they have to create new metrics that place themselves at the top of their own private leaderboards and you get what we see with these out of context claims of previous extensive history that does not match what the game or forums shows about them publicly.
Gone are the days of respectable gentlemen’s debate, and in are the days of ego-fuelled young men who are too busy trying to shine that the whole concept of respect goes out the window.
Hiero is right and the OP, actually is half right.
How long one has been playing Forza for, does not add any validity to one’s argument. True. In isolation.
But it certainly adds context.
It communicates what that player has likely experienced and witnessed first hand. For others with similar experience, it communicates quite a lot about what they know of where things came from, how things used to be and how they could be again.
It communicates that they have some depth to their perspective of the potential of Forza.
But it does not automatically validate whatever argument they may be trying to bring forward.
Frankly someone who has been playing the franchise for about a decade to my eye, his or hers opinion absolutely are more valuable given the fact that they have more experience. The fact you don’t agree with that doesn’t mean others shouldn’t either.
If new or old players like FM7 I’m happy for them and have no problem with that. I think the Horizon series is great because it tried new things without putting pressure on Turn 10 and doesn’t affect the FM series. So FM fans can skip Horizon and vice versa, but if FM changes too much there’s no choice left.
The FM series has existed since 2005 and certain features are expected. You can’t reduce/remove a standout feature of the series or change it’s direction and expect it to go down well with long time fans. Alienating long time fans is one of the worst things a series can do.
I’ve been playing Forza since FM2 but my profile says I’ve been driving since 2013 because this is a different Xbox profile. I’m just after fully finishing my FM2 playthrough and will be going on to FM3 and after that FM4. I want to see how the games have changed with each release and to see what they’re actually like right now, not through rose tinted glasses.
Let’s face it most us who have been here since the first 1 have learned to just deal with t10 and there downhill movement
The problem is the people who have still yet to learn to get the best out of forza it’s all in having big group of friends and running private spec races
<< that way no matter how bad the franchise gets it’s always fixable …
Case in point.
How long have you played Forza… IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW LONG! ! !
My poor attempt at a dated pop cultural reference aside, I’m glad someone made this thread. I’d dare say most of us who bothered to sign up for a forum about a particular game? Safe to say probably have experience with said game. That’s not to say someone doesn’t sign up hoping for help on occasion.
That being said… Almost every “opinion” piece creator has cited beforehand their experience before they proceed to tear into FM7.
We get it, you want to add some extra substance to your stance. That’s fine but at the end of the day? I’m glad folks are keeping the pressure on Turn10, but we do get it… Many of you have played some Forza games! Much have the rest of us, who for the most part do not feel as compelled to say so.
Anyone remember SEGA GT Online, Group S Challenge, Auto Modellista? ? ?
To be honest, maturity and how you express your opinion means a lot more to me than how long you have played.
You can say you’ve played since FM1, like a good bit of us have, but if you throw temper tantrums, use bad grammar and or punctuation (or none for that matter) and in general act like a two year old, your opinion and credibility go right out the window.
As a veteran I can say that yes, FM7 has had its share of disappointments, but if you sit back and take a long look at it, it really isn’t that bad. The career mode is an improvement over FM5, the car list is the largest it has ever been and we finally have the ability to test our skills in a driving rain.
Sure, they’ve removed features, big ones, but they have also brought things back to us, like the Auction House and Community Bounties.
I’ll admit there are times I’ve gotten upset of some of the changes, the biggest one for me is VIP, which they have since reversed, but I’ve never really done multiplayer other than Rivals and running with friends, but I’ve generally found a way to express my opinions in a civil manner.
There’s a lot of veteran posters here I respect, some that I’ve seen go downhill and others I’ve never seen before who charge in like a bull in a china shop. Whose opinion do you think most people will listen to?
TLDR: Maturity and how you post means a lot more than veteran status.
One of the main problems with forums is that many people don’t seem to know the diffference between a subjective opinion and an objective fact. You cannot state that FM7 is better or worse than any other game and take the poition that you’re stating a fact; it’s your OPINION. If you enjoy the game more or less than any other game, then that is your subjective opinion. How many other games you’ve played is simply unimportant. If you view your opinions as facts, and castigate those that disagree with you as being factually incorrect, then you’re just another ranting head taking value away from the forum.
Racing since Pitstop 2 on the Commodore 64 - see how that doesn’t matter? ![]()
Oh man i miss that! I had so much fun with it back in the day!
You all make me laugh, especially the OP. I 1000% disagree with you.
Someone who has spent THOUSANDS of hours playing every single Forza title, and thousands of dollars in hardware + every Froza title with Ultimate versions and packs etc… would MOST DEFINITELY have a more valid opinion than someone who started with Forza Horizon 3 and has 50 hours of play time between the 2 titles. (for example)
There is no entitlement here, don’t confuse them. That doesn’t mean however that a “veteran” opinion isn’t more valid, because it is. Sorry if that upsets you but that my friend is a fact of life.
At the end of the day a newbie’s opinion holds as much weight around here anyway, T10 certainly doesn’t listen to the “old crowd” ;).
Maybe that’s because the “old crowd” is outnumbered compared to newer players who expect less from Forza.
Easier to cater to those then the more demanding oldtimers who expect the same game as last year + more.
You’re right, however it does provide context which someone would be a complete Magoo to ignore. I’ve been playing since the first and watch my friend list go from mostly Forza players to only a small handful. A single opinion doesn’t carry more weight than yours, but the context does matter. As a rule in marketing, it’s considered far less expensive to keep clients than find new ones, and Turn10 is missing out on this little nugget of wisdom.
It also gives us a perspective which newer racer lack. Also of great value.
They are both as valid and as important as each other, the vet cant comment or express opinion as someone viewing the game and franchise through new eyes and the new person cant comment from an experienced persons perspective, however it would be nice if they could respect each others views rather than constantly trying to debunk each other.
And this need its own thread lol , Ive seen good polite threads locked but this gets to run, unbelievable.
It’s the new Politically Correct sensitive kids who think they know everything. The majority of people on this Forum including myself have been playing since FM1 and seen countless of good and bad changes.
