This recently began on my end as well. When I first installed it, I did not have the issue. After a few days (past couple of days) it started.
Before posting here, I did extenssive testing. All the usual things. And yes, you can shut off your sleep for the monitors. That seemed excessive for a game being installed. As mentioned earlier, it doesnt happen in other games.
I am a long time tech. Long time.
Anyways, what Horizon 6 is behaving like is as though it is not in “focus”. A term used to speak about the active window that Windows sees. Like it was being pushed behind anbother one.
Overlays.
Steams Overlay is on by default. You video cards is as well. I shut both off, screen timeout set to 5 minutes and played. Screens did not go to sleep.
I turned Steams back on and it still hasnt gone to sleep after about 20 minutes of drive time.
My virdict is it is Forza with the issue as the overlay for my video card does not interfere with any other game. That said, it can only be shut off globally in the card, which is not ideal. However, if people choose to, they can use the MS Official Software to turn it off (for now) for Forza. Until they figure it out and get it fixed. I will leave instructions for both methods. This is a Horizon 6 issue.
Option 1: Use Advanced Tools for Specific Games (PC Profile Inspector)
Advanced users use the NVIDIA Profile Inspector to block the overlay from hooking into specific executables.
-
Download and open the NVIDIA Profile Inspector.
-
Search for the specific game using the profiles dropdown.
-
Scroll down to find the “unknown settings” button and click it to reveal deeper registry tweaks.
-
Look for the setting \(0x809D5F60\) and change the value to \(0x10000000\).
-
Apply your changes. The NVIDIA overlay will no longer hook into that game when launched.
Option 2: Disable the Overlay Globally
If certain games crash or you simply want the overlay out of your way permanently, you can disable it across your system.
If you are using the NVIDIA App:
-
Open the NVIDIA app from your system tray.
-
Navigate to the Settings menu.
-
Click on Features, then NVIDIA Overlay.
-
Toggle the switch to Off.
If you are using GeForce Experience:
-
Open NVIDIA GeForce Experience from your system tray.
-
Click the Gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner.
-
On the General tab, scroll down to the IN-GAME OVERLAY section.
-
Toggle the switch to the left to turn it Off.
Side note: If no input is detected from wheel/gamepad and it reaches its timeout, they will go to sleep like they are supposed to.
