It’s a sponsored event including Worldgaming, Pfaff (which is a Car Dealership chain) and the 2019 Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto. Guess it’s a way for them to encourage ticket sales for the autoshow.
what’s interesting is, it’s pretty much no assists at all. Not even braking line, which is the one that threw me.
I beat the first rival, which is usually somebody’s little brother who did two thirds of the course, before driving off into a tire wall and getting called away for supper. Then I posted a nice clean lap time which at the time was in the top 44%. I’m pretty content with that, considering where I am as a player. Couldn’t do much better than that on the next lap, though. kept misjudging the braking zone.
Go to Free Play and choose the same car/track combo. Turn a bunch of practice laps with brake line assist on. This will get you familiar with the braking points. You will find this track has a lot of brake point landmarks like overhead shadows and such.
.
What makes you believe a lot of people use the braking line assist? Or did I misunderstand your comment? My assumption is that the braking line assist would be one of the first assists people get rid of to become a better driver, followed by automatic gearshifting and traction control.
Hopefully they love Canada enough to bring us Mosport… Or Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as it’s known now I guess.
For sure a lot of people use it. We have a league that runs 25~ people a week, of a variety of skill levels, and there are about 3 or 4 of us who don’t run it. Checking out a lot of YouTube videos will show a lot of “top” guys using it as well.
Good guys know how to use it as a reference without relying on it, but I do think more people should learn to turn it off rather than use it as a crutch. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard people yelling “you broke early!” at the guy in front of them that they just drove into the back because they were watching for their line to turn red instead of watching the brake lights of the car in front of them.
Yeah, that explains most of my multiplayer experiences (which is why I almost exclusively races in ghost leagues). Most people seem to only focus on the line, rather than on the cars around them, and potential braking point reference points around the tracks.
Seeing Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in the game would be awesome!! A 48-yr-old boy can always dream…
I’m well aware that other people turn it of. I just generally leave it on because I can’t be bothered to learn the braking zones for every track. I knew from the description that most of the assists were turned off, but I was halfway into the runoff at turn 1 before I realized that the braking line was turned off too.
My out-lap was terrible. My 2nd lap was ok, and that was about where I peaked, and I haven’t had a chance to take another shot at it.
I generally run on normal steering, manual with clutch, STM off. (ABS is off too, but I don’t know how it got turned off, and I’m pretending not to notice to try and get used to it.) TCS I tend to leave on or off depending on my mood, or if I’m doing a drift run, and suggestion line is braking line only.
Weird how a thread about a Rivals event has somehow derailed into talking about online multiplayer behaviour just because I made a comment about the braking line being disabled.
