There are lots of topics about this,
but this will be quite a lengthy post, don’t want to mess up other topics with that.
So. The issue is, the game won’t sync the save, quite well known occurrence by now.
The sync windows stayed open for 15 minutes, then closed with 0% progress.
Leaving the game stuck in the main menu, loading.
Restarting the game resulted in the sync window not showing up at all, game gets stuck anyways.
Signing out of the Xbox App, and singing in when the game wants the account brings the sync window back, but just vanishes again after a while.
This was yesterday.
Jumping into the present. I got the window to stay.
I had to reset the type and server name of the “Teredo” tunneling to default.
Type is now client and the server name is win1807.ipv6.microsoft.com.
To be clear, the NAT type was open already before I did this and had no other issues displayed in the network section of the Xbox app.
BUT, the sync window at least stays open now.
It still doesn’t make any progress, staying at 0% since many hours it has been running, but it’s at least something.
Occasionally I see a 100kbit spike in network activity which just dies off after a few seconds.
100kbit is not a lot when 50Mbit are possible in theory.
(I ran network tests, everything is fine, even opened all the ports related to Xbox I could find on the internet, so that shouldn’t be the issue)
It shows the exact same behavior when singing in with an account that has no cloud save file.
Other stuff I did without any result:
- WSRESET
- reinstall of the Xbox app
- sfc /scannow
- reset/re-download/re-install of the game
- clean boot
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image
- Windows Update
I never cancelled any previous syncing attempts, I never even saw the sync window before this all started.
Things I didn’t try are the things that are just not worth trying and/or are absolutely not acceptable solutions:
- Windows 10 reinstall (pretty sure Windows is fine at this point)
- Giving offline permissions to Forza Horizon 4, starting a new game offline and syncing later to reset the cloud save file
Both would just be avoiding the problem rather than finding what caused it in the first place and fixing it, and a windows reinstall is just too much work for a game when everything else runs fine.
This is a problem that needs to get sorted out ASAP for (from what I have seen) quite a lot of people,
since it’s preventing people from playing the game they purchased for money.
I would be interested in Teredo settings from people who have the same issue and from people whose game is working fine.
Since I made progress that way, I have a hunch it might be a networking problem with the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo Interface.
To show the settings:
- Open Powershell or CMD (possibly admin permissions are needed)
- enter: netsh interface Teredo show state
And maybe restoring the defaults is even enough for some people to get the sync going, not sure.
What I did is:
- netsh interface teredo set state client
- netsh interface Teredo set state servername=default
Also, I have yet to receive a reply on my ticket.
