Suzuka drafting bug

In honor of the 10hr or Suzuka race this weekend I decided to do some endurance races. Now, I’m not sure if this has been brought up, I didn’t see it in any searches, but at Suzuka Full, if you’re going at the speed that triggers the drafting skill, and dirties your lap, when you hit the overpass before the left-hander and there’s traffic under you, it will dirty your lap time. I assume it will happen on the West and Alt layouts as well.

Question is if you are doing an Endurance race why does a “dirty” lap even matter?

Fair question, I suppose it’s a personal thing, and I do races within homologation so times go on a leaderboard, so a lap that gets dirtied for nothing kinda bugs me.

Yep, and it’s not like there is any qualifying. You set the car up to be as fast as possible on the track and that’s that. If you get a clear track ahead, you’ve every chance of posting a competitive lap time. I think the homologated leaderboards are the most fun because of that. It’s a more level playing field in terms of competition and it focuses more on the driver than the car or tune. If I do a race and don’t get a chance to set a clean lap because I’m stuck in the pack then that’s fine, I’m concentrating on battling, not lapping. However if I’m out in front (or behind for that matter) and there’s noone to battle with then why not go for lap times? I haven’t had that bug happen to me yet (or not that I have noticed anyway), but I’d be fuming if it did. I get an enormous sense of achievement when I go fast and I very much enjoy having something to show for it.

Yes, sad but true.

Drafting will dirty your lap at any track.

We know, but at Suzuka, if you hit the overpass at the speed that would trigger drafting, while a car is going under it, the lap will get dirtied.
