What’s going on everyone, been a long while since I posted in here about a tune I was working on.
I just shared a B-class tune for the Subaru BRZ that’s managed to get up to #275 at V.I.R. It’s been long enough for me having a halfway decent tune so I decided I’d head over here and see if I could get a couple other drivers/tuners to throw some feedback my way. It was tuned mainly for V.I.R. but should do better elsewhere as well. You can find it by searching my GT (Wrench Monkey 1) in creator field obviously, it should be named B-Class V.I.R. I believe. Thanks to anyone that hot laps it looking forward to seeing your times!
I went in V.I.R. full for couple of laps, and the result was #251 with the time of 2:03.791
That is #12 on division and #113 Europe
and I think there is at least 0.5-1 second still in there with me driving. even more if one of the faster drivers decide to try it.
My opinion about it. It’s great car, even though it didn’t quite suit my driving style,
If I would suggest some change it would be in rear grip. Loosen it a little bit. every time I tried to exit any slower corner, and opened up the throttle the rear became bit snappy, Not enuogh to spin but it clearly slow’d me down.
This is cause in my preference the rear either sticks really hard, or is just a little bit looser, so there would be bit more slide on the exit, but very VERY smoothly, so that even thuogh it slides I can keep the throttle pinned. Right now it forced me to ease the throttle to regain it, it’s completely managable, but it really wrecked my consistency, so I had huge variation between laptimes.
Thanks for the input Juggernaut, I noticed that myself and have been trying out a few different things, I’m currently testing a slightly different build now, that among the minor changes loses the adjustable rear wing and adds a slightly wider rear tire, which seems to have helped me improve with it a little (my new best time is just behind yours at 2:03.796) but I think I still need to tweak some settings a bit more to really nail it
Actually, It’s not so bad that I originally thought, I went around COTA full, and it was very good, althuogh lacked a bit of speed.but the handling was spot on for me…
Also it might be something to do with how little I have driven V.I.R. overall which might have thrown me off a bit.
Edit:
I was thinking that you said removing the rear wing and using wider rear tire. Just thinking how I would approach this small issue (yes it still is small issue in my opinion.) would probably think that lower tire compound, and wider rear tire could fix it. Possibly…
and that would give you PI to spend elsewhere, bit more power perhaps? Althuogh I’m not quite sure would it work, as I had a hint of understeer in entry, Just right amount, but it might become too high if there isn’t any room for upgrade in there too.
Just shared the updated tune, ran 10 laps in test and tune got a best of 2:03.645…slightly trickier to drive but it does feels faster. Something feels off to me about it in the uphill rhythm section but maybe it’s just my driving style. Hopefully some nice people like Juggernaut and anyone else that can take it for a spin can give me feedback on it, it’s under the file name V.I.R. BRZ V2.0
EDIT: 2:03.639 #235 world in case anyone wants a ghost to run against…although you’ve been warned that my lap was horrid (which is good and bad since that means I left some out there)
I threw couple laps in… but I was quite tired so I managed to dirty them all…
How ever it seems faster, and much better to drive now… I’ll give you more feedback tomorrow. but I have a feeling that it’s going to brake in top 200’s or very close to that at least… And I’m not the greatest driver around.
Greatest driver or not I appreciate the input you’ve sent my way so far
Time: 2:02.996
#181 World
#84 Europe
#9 Division
I think I said it will go in top 200’s and I still left at least 0.3-0.6sec hanging there. (one slightly too slow entry, two too fast entrys, where other led to missed apex, and other led to panic slowdown with handbrake and missed apex, and one where my line was bit too tight, could have taken wider line)
Now as I had bit more time to look at it, I’d suggest on experimenting with lower tire pressure, it has bit too much of it, so 1-2 PSI drop could improve it a bit.
2:02, this thing is starting to show more promise. I’ll experiment a bit with tire pressures tonight. What’s your take on the brake bias? My personal driving style makes me think maybe a slighter shift to rear will help it on the first couple corners but that’s just my opinion and wondering what you think about it?
…also the curious/semi-selfish part of me hopes a top driver happens across this thing, your input has been great and you’re times tell me you’re a very good, very competent driver but I’d lie if I said I wasn’t curious what some of the best could do with this thing
Maybe click or 2 clics to rear could be used but that is more driving style preference. and I don’t think it would get too much time out of it… 0.1 sec possibly, How ever the balance is currently perfect for the turn 1, the turn agter the S bends heading up to back straight, and right after the back straight, and those are the 3 big braking zones on the track.
I’ll leave it as is then, I was thinking for my driving style but I’m not exactly laying down the fastest laps and your driving is probably more in line with others anyway…I’ve got my mind busy enough in the great debate about whether or not the dampers are fine where they are to keep me busy anyway
I watched the replay of my lap, telelmetry open as usualm and the damping is great on that thing. Sure there is an odd occasion where it jumps on to 2 wheels (found that in S bends couple times) but in my opinion it’s now do you want to be consistent, or do you want to be fast.
What it comes to the brakes. I find it to be great at the moment, while braking it doesn’t turn too well, which is to be expected in any case, and you certainly could use more rear biased brakes to give it more trail braking ability.
How ever right now soon as you release the brake it turns in very sharply which I concider to be better at least on this track.
One trick I might use in extremely fast tap on the handbrakewhich you can see me doing in my LB replay on the braking at the end of the back straight. Not enough to cause a slide, but enough to get more bite to the front end, I use it fairly often… bit too often in factto get bit more turning.
It rarely is the fastest way around the corner, but it can dampen the effect of small mistakes. (that time I would have gone wide), and while I was still learning to drive I used it pretty often.
That uphill S has been my Achilles heel in this particular car, when I’ve made a mistake and dirtied a lap chances are pretty good that’s where the mistake happened I think I just have it stuck in my mind that tweaking the damping can settle the thing down a little right there without losing much elsewhere.
Even though I’ve been out of tuning for a while I’ve never really been someone satisfied with my own work anyway, back in the old FM2 days I was a part of Spot Performance and I remember being a bit of a pain in the ass in the “I don’t think it’s as good as you think, there’s a problem somewhere” department
Gave your car a go, (disclaimer, im not a fast driver by any means however i try get the most out of a tune).
The Good:
- Good breaks
- Good entry corner speed
- Good build
The bad: (just my opinion)
- Bad oversteet at mid to exit corner causing the rear to slid out
- Uneven tire pressure (more of a personal choice) 32.5 to 33.0 PSI when hot is ideally for this car.
Overall:
Car has good grip, fun to drive, good lobby car.
Some times:
#174 overall, #8 division, #54 americas at VIR North (10 laps)
Thanks for the input W4RLOCK, tire pressure was one of those experimental things that seemed to work for me personally but is on the list of tweaks to be made later. I’ve also noticed the pronounced oversteer on a hot exit and have been trying a few different things to bring it in line, haven’t made a noticeable difference that didn’t cost me time elsewhere though. I’m still going to continue tweaking in the hopes I find something but thinking it may end up being a risk/reward type of adjustment and ultimately either leave it as is for a slightly faster car at the expense of consistency or tone it down for a better lobby car…if I ever even have it in a condition that I’m proud to brag about as anything more than a test bed that is
Likely my final attempt to have this car collect my first top 100 time, V.I.R. BRZ V2.5 now shared!!!
Made another small round of tweaks, feels a little more stable in testing without seeming to lose anything as far as lap times are concerned. I’d love, love, love to test it in rivals to get solid numbers up here and on the LB but my awesome internet is fighting me every step of the way. It’s inching closer to my top 100 goal hopefully one of the many awesome drivers here can take it for a spin and see what it can really do.
I appreciate everyone that’s taken the time to drive it throughout it’s evolution and had feedback for me, it’s all been very valuable to my little project, now it’s boom or bust time for my little BRZ!! To prevent taking up to much of your time this is likely the last set of tweaks I make for this car, I truly hope someone can crack the top 100 but it is what it is. Either way I think it would make a great lobby car if nothing else so I have no plans on unsharing it anytime soon so I hope everyone that downloads it enjoys it and if you do I’d very much appreciate you liking the tune.
The quest for this car to get a top 100 time already ended, PTG Benny put it #93 at V.I.R. full with a time of 2:01.540 so I’m content with that. That time makes it the 3rd fastest BRZ I see in listings. At some point I may make some changes to go after the other 2 but this version will remain shared for anyone that wants, what I believe should be, a good little B-class lobby car. Thanks to Juggernaut, Benny, Jezza and anyone else that sent feedback my way on it.
