Steering is now broken T10

On every car, on any account, with any controller, with any deadzone settings I get a bug where my car won’t go full lock on the left side. This makes turning left almost impossible.

One bug fixed and another one gets put in :frowning:

Reduce your outside dead zone till it corrects the issue. I have the same problem with my game. Its been that way since launch for me. It took me a while to figure out what I could to to fix it. Fortunately my day 1 controller still works fine, but for all my other controllers including new ones, I needed to run the outside dead zone at about 75. It made the cars feel way to twitchy for me so I have stuck with my day one controller. Its a bit rough though due to a non functioning D pad.

I would suggest dropping your outside dead zone 10 at a time starting at 100. Then take your car to Lime Rock (without the chicanes) and drive the track in reverse. All turns will be left handed in reverse with the exception of 1 right hand turn. While doing so, pull up the Telemetry and use the right bumber to go to the Friction screen (4 green circles). Keep dropping your dead zone till you start seeing the Friction Circles that represent the front tires turn red, While turning left with the outside dead zone at 100, the circles will stay green, keep goind down till they start turning red. Look for the circles to turn red when your at the limits of the tires. When you start seeing them consistently getting into the red, stop adjusting the dead zone.

I would imagine that if you had to drop the outside dead zone to 70 and it ends up being too twitchy for you, a pair of Kontrol Freaks would be in order. Please let me know if this helps.

Hey I appreciate the response but like I said in the OP, its not a controller issue.

The deadzones do not fix the issue. When in the telemetry and not moving, you can see if you are getting full steering input or if you have a bummed controller. However my telemetry shows i can get full lock while immobile.

The issue happens in low-mid speed left handers. Once i slow down enough the game recognizes im trying to go full lock and then i get the full range of motion. Again, while parked my car gets the full lock. I also get the issue no matter which controller I use (I have 3 that Ive tried).

Forza uses a type of steering smoothing where it deadens the steering input and limits your max lock while the stick is pegged to eitger side IF you are going fast. The faster you are going, the less the wheels turn. Thats how it should be but Im assuming the recent patch broke the coding that determines how far to turn the tires given your current speed. Its as though the game thinks Im going 50mph and reducing my steering even though Im going 20mph. When i slow down my steering wheel suddenly jumps to full lock. Again this only happens on the left side for me.

I am aware that Telemetry will show that your car is going to full lock while pushing left on the steering while not moving. Please just try the solution I suggested before dismissing it out of hand. I absolutely grantee that you can fix it with the outside dead zone. This problem drove me nuts for months before I figured out how to fix it. I have sent a long email to T10 about this issue and recieved no response.

I have noticed it too, with the controller, it is very pronounced in Bathurst, for example the tight left just before the downhill straight. Its pretty much impossible to get the corner at any decent speed now…

Hopefully they will look into this as fast as they fixed the vibration issue.

My cars turn excellent, both simulation and normal. Testing test track with telemetrics, very different speed , turns both direction good. Maybe you have to hard reset your console. Power cabel off 10 minutes.

Okay, I will try that now, I didn’t even know there was a 10 min hard reset… Thanks!

Ive never heard of a ten minute hard reset… A hard reset is a hard reset… Time in between will not do anything. If you arent familiar pulling cable is not necessary, just hold your finger on xbox power on/off button for a few seconds(10 seconds works) then let go.It will piwer on and go through green xbox screen etc…

Actually, there is a hard reset, and it does make a difference. Resetting with power still connected does not always accomplish a full reset.

The proper procedure is to turn off your Xbox One, then unplug it from the wall outlet.
Unplug your internet router/modem from the wall outlet for 2 minutes.
Plug in your internet router/modem and allow it to completely cycle and Internet to come up (give it 5 minutes).
Plug in your Xbox One and turn it on.
When your Xbox powers up, allow it to fully sync (if a sync is required).
Then start Forza.
These steps ensure power is removed completely and that is essential to getting a full reset.

If the reset doesn’t work, you may need to update your controller. I don’t have the procedures in front of me right now, but it requires plugging the controller into a certain USB port with the supplied cable. I check this about once a week, because I had some issues, previously, with vibration and steering.

I hope this helps!

Have a great day

Peace

broken controller? I see no difference. I’m on my 3rd because of Forza

I’ve been having this issue for quite a while now (long before the update this week) and it is in slow left handers e.g. the sweeping left 4th last at hockenheim and the slow left towards the end of COTA GP/West.

It feels like a bad case of understeer on the stick and loss of input/vibration in the left gas trigger. I’ve tried messing with the stick deadzones but have found that it affects my steering adversely at other times and so have decided to factor it in to the difficulty of the game alongside the slippy bumpstrips etc.

I’ve posted on here in the hope that someone better connected than me might be able to point it out to the developers who in turn might make an attempt to solve it through coding if they can

Edit: both of my controllers are fully updated and the newest one had this issue straight out of the box some weeks ago.

My origional E-mail to Turn 10. Does this sound familiar?

Steering/traction/deadzone bug in FM5 and FM 6 demo

Hello.
I have had a problem with Forza 5 for the last 2 years and after downloading the Forza 6 demo I have found this issue is worse. There is a bug or glitch with the deadzone for the steering.

In Forza 4, with a game pad, I always ran my steering deadzones at 3% for the inside and 100% on the outside. These settings were ideal for me as they offered good fidelity without being too twitchy.

When Forza 5 came out I noticed that, when I was in a turn at the correct speed, the car would push off the track but there would be no feedback from the controller that I was pushing the car and tires beyond thier traction limits. After this kept happening time and time again, I started driving with the telemetry on viewing the traction circles. I noticed that while I was in a turn, the traction circles would never break traction. The yellow and blue bar inside the circles would show only half the force being applied in the turn and the percentage values would confirm that I was only reaching about 60% of the maximum grip yet the car would still push out. I consulted the forums and kept getting advice that it was my tuning or that I was a bad driver or on a bad line. After messing with the deadzones, I found that I could limit this problem. I found thet the inside deadzone % had no effect on the problem but that the outside deadzone % did. I had to lower the outside to about 80%. This did not totally keep it from happening, but it did greatly reduce the overall problem. I have been able to manage with reduced likelihood of the tires not braking traction.

I downloaded the Forza 6 demo and found the bug/glitch is even more pronounced in the demo. I had to decrease the outside deadzone % to about 65 to 70% while this helped to fix the problem, now the car feels really twitchy. Its much harder to keep the car stable after losing so much deadzone on the outside.

I have captured 6 videos on my activity feed showcasing the bug. In each video I have the telemetry up showing the traction circles. I am at full left lock on the gamepad and I also have the full race line on so I could highlight that I am not going into the turn at an excessive speed. In some videos I tried to feather the throttle to get the car through the turn with no success. In other videos I tried to floor it in hopes that it would force the front tires to brake traction so I would then be at 100% of grip and the tires would hook up and get me through the turn. This did not work either. I then decreased the outside deadzone to 65% and captured 1 video where the car behaves as it should. All videos were captured on Lime Rock. After the first sweeper to the right going into the second turn (first left hand turn) is where you can see the bug in full effect. For some reason it almost always happens while turning to the left. Very rarely will this bug take effect while turning right. Please understand that this bug effects the traction regardless of track and when it does happen it seems to always effect the same corner/corners consistently.

I have also tested three diferent gamepads to eliminate the gamepad as a variable. On all 3 gamepads I had to drop the outside deadzone to below 70%.

I bought my Xbox One on day one just for Forza 5. I am an avid fan of T10 and the Forza Motersport franchise. I am hoping that you can investigate the bug described within this e-mail.

I have the videos in my recent activity feed. And my gamertag is RM KrypticKhaos.

Thank you for considering this information regarding this bug I am trying highlight in this e-mail. Additionally, I am not going to capture any game videos for the next several days so the 6 videos will be at the top of my activity feed. If there is a T10 gamertag that I could directly send these game clips to, please let me know.

Respectfully,
John Smith (This name has been changed to protect the innocent)
