I had a TCL tv which had no problems with HDR settings in FM7. However, I recently upgraded to a Samsung NU8000 and struggled to get the HDR to look right in this game. Everyone will give you different advice about HDR, and every TV is different, but after hours and hours of fiddling with it I wanted to let you know what worked for me with this particular TV.
First, turn the top slider down all the way so the game gets really, really dark. Then adjust the HDR slider until the logo disappears - this should now be a very clear distinction between seeing the FORZA MOTORSPORT 7 logo on one click and it completely disappearing on the next. This spot is the correct setting and don’t change it. (Very close to the left end of the slider for this TV.)
Next, move the brightness slider back to where you want it and don’t be afraid to go a little bright. It makes the day sunlight look very realistic. For me, 75% brightness worked best (25 clicks from the brightest end).
I spent so long looking at the clouds, track, cars, and sky on multiple different tracks, and it was the HDR slider that was causing all the problems. The game looks beautiful now and every track and every sky looks amazing.
PS I also used all the recommended rtings.com settings for my tv.
I don’t have a 4K/HDR TV, but this is a useful post for reference, so I’m bookmarking it - thanks!
Did you get the weird bright orange/glowy brake lights to disappear? Or the almost completely flat red brake lights at night? I’ve heard multiple people complain irrespective of SDR or HDR that the brake lights just never look right. They are either extremely bright and overexposed (non night driving) with almost not hint of red - or really low contrast and almost flat with no red glow or halo (night driving).
Would love your thoughts on this. IMO, brake lights looked great in FM6 and 5. don’t know how they messed it up in Fm7.
