Some more questions from a beginner, if you feel led to help me understand (clutch).....

I just did my first race with a clutch. Just did a quick race in single player to get the feel. I like it for the extra level of realism. However, I still don’t really understand how it can be faster than manual w/o a clutch. I mean, the newer sports cars and race cars are using the paddle shifters that don’t have a clutch. Well, not one the driver manipulates with a leg. Like Ferraris and I think Porsche. Right? And you would think that would be faster than shifting with your arm while depressing the clutch. So why would manual w/ clutch in the game make a car faster?

Of course I’m definitely not as fast yet. I have to get used to wrapping my brain around it when playing. Of course I kept on the gas sometimes which threw the RPM’s to redline when I pressed the clutch. Even if it was fast. I realize you have to let off the gas like in real life. And then slowing down for a corner is a bit of a challenge. I may have to learn to brake with my middle finger instead of my pointer so that I can use the brake and press the clutch. I see why guys redo their controller. What did someone say, use A as the clutch??? That does make sense. Maybe I’ll have to do that. Does anybody else still use the left bumper and brake with their middle finger?

Then another issue I just noticed is there is no Toyota’s. I already noticed no Porsches, and read about it online, which for me isn’t a huge deal, although they would be cool. Which brings up another question, I saw a list of all the cars you can have on some blog or something and I see all these different packs you can get. I have a little card in my game that has the “American Muscle Car pack” and “September Pennzoil Car pack”, but I see that there a more than this. How does one get those? Do they automatically come when you set up xbox live? I have to do that.

No Toyotas?? No Porsche??? Wait , I got the Supra, how can there be no Toyotas?? Maybe I missed them. I went in to look at cars to buy and I don’t remember seeing Toyota.

And then why in the world, no Chaparrals??? And what was that other deal o back in the day. Lister? Had American engines with a British racing body like a jag. Lance Reventflow? Is that the name of the race driver back then? I forget. I guess the game doesn’t just focus on the glory days. LOL.

Does anybody else change their controller to auto if they’re driving a car that wasn’t known to have stick. Like weren’t the Buick Grand National automatic only?

Thanks for listening guys and I appreciate discussion if anyone would like to.

Here’s a list of cars and DLC packs with links:

Thank you. Just to add to the discussion. This may sound crazy but I swear my steering has smoothed out some once I transitioned to the clutch. Does it actually make your car handle better too? I couldn’t see how. Maybe I’m just getting better.
