so i decided to get a wheel...

Glad its working for you, told you it was worth it!

turns out changing from a HDMI cable to a HDMI-VGA cable wont work without an adapter (HDMI is digital, VGA analogue) which i had no idea, but with a bit of research i have found that HDMI-DVI-I/D will work (minus audio, but i use headphones so thats no problem anyway) so ill have to test it on my old dusty pc monitor

I agree that the FFB is FM5 is awful. I have a large variety of racing games and sims and Forza 5 feels nothing close to any of them. It just doesn’t even feel like you’re in control of the car. The FFB feels like it has a mind of its own. I don’t notice any lag but there’s a FFB deadzone around the center. Its not an actual deadzone because you can still turn the wheel and the car reacts but the FFB is just not there until you turn the wheel a few degrees in each direction so it feels like you go from not even being connected to the car to sudden oversteer, then the car snaps back in the opposite direction leading to a slide that has to be corrected. I’m mostly a PC sim racer so I’m spoiled a bit but even GT5 and GT6 with the T500RS feels much better than FM5, and I won’t even dare make a comparisons to iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, or Game Stock Car Extreme as those games are the definition of FFB in racing. Its no fault of the TX wheel. THe TX is outstanding on PC games, even better than the T500RS. I sure hope Horizon 2 is much improved, as well as FM6. THe FFB is so bad in FM5, it makes me not even want to use a wheel.

this was the conclusion (personal opinion) i came to about the center FFB on forza 4
“I can adjust the spr to get a better feel but that force is completely artificial and doesn’t react to the car. It’s like a soft spot that’s been implemented into the FFB but at the centre point the wheel will only respond to very high end of FFB signal. I presume they made this soft zone to eliminate oscillation in the FFB but it kills a lot if feel for driving the car”

and it feels the same on F5

After having it for a month I finally got my wheel sorted out and had my first session. Bit rusty so the jury is still out, but easily knocked a large chunk off some of my woeful controller times. The GTE rim creaks and ticks a bit and the base has stupidly strong ffb. At first I thought it wasn’t paying attention when I turned it down in the settings. Also the fan seems to kick in loudly almost straight away even though it’s blowing cool air. I’ll have to give it a week or two (presuming the tx lasts that long) but so far not that impressed with the feedback effects in FM5. Just like FM4 it’s slack around the centre, and seems inconsistent in strength. I’ll have to try a few different surfaces and tyre compounds and give ACL a shot. Thank God I could plug the CSPs into it. The pedals it came with are indescribably lame. The shifters on the GTE are nice though compared to my old PWTS.

well got my wheel back today, and after close to an hour of driving in forza i put the wheel back in the box and went back to my PC.
