Silverstone pileup glitch

On Silverstone (rain), I think it’s the third to last, turn the AI will run into the barricade and be stuck there until the end of the race. I’ve seen up to ten cars just parked there or driving circles as I lap them for the fifth time.

Anyone else notice this??

Yup it’s hilarious. Sometimes I will push them out of the way just to help them get back on the track like helping a creature back into the water lol.

Aww that’s sweet lol

I think I lapped the whole field, twice, because of that. Hilarious.

They don’t actually get stuck there permanently. The game teleports them back onto the track when you get so far ahead.

But it’s definitely a peculiar glitch in the AI. Even the race leaders seem to be unable to figure out how to evade the puddles on that turn.

It happens in the dry as well. I dont think the whole drivatar data collecting thing is real. I see multiple drivatars make the same mistakes at the same points on many tracks. I can’t see it being coincidence that all these real life people all go off the same way, and I’m talking about driving over the same tire marks in the grass, like exactly the same every time.

I have also observed it and I also think I have an explanation.

Corner cutting. On all tracks that carried over from FM5 where severe corner cutting occurred in FM5 the drivatars learned their corner cutting behavior in FM5 and it has just been carried over to FM6. You will see drivatars hit the made up tire walls on Yas as well but they don’t just pile up there as badly as they do at Silverstone.

Does anyone really find these eyesore added in tire barriers to be better than sticky grass? Bring back the sticky grass! I’m all for sticky grass to eliminate corner cutting. I never saw any issue with the sticky grass, and it’s use should ahve been expanded into some of the problem areas like on Yas instead of installing all of these not there in real life walls that ruin pictures and sight lines when driving.

No please no sticky grass. In some corners if you touched a wheel to the grass it would stop you. At least with the walls you have to really cut to hit them - and you can clearly see where they are. …and I like when someone (either online or drivitar) hits them and sends the tires flying. it’s funny.

I agree it’s actually one thing that I like that they changed, a long with “sticky” walls so people can’t wall ride anymore. And I wasn’t talking about track cutting, I’m talking about certain parts of tracks that I can’t see why or how people would go off but the drivatars do, and the cars are driving over tire marks from another drivatar who did it the lap before.

I don’t think Drivatars “learn” anything. I think it’s just multiple levels of difficulty in which the game assigns names from your friends list to cars in the race. In order to increase the “realism” the Ai seem to have a lower level of spacial awareness, so they’ll ram into each other and you. The all have the classic Ai behavior in that they brake mid corner, they brake in the straights if you get to close to their rear bumpers, and if you bump draft them they will simply stand on the brakes instead of going faster. The improvements over the classic Ai are actually quite nice. They will take bad lines and they do go off. I’ve never liked absolutely perfect Ai as I find their behavior quite boring and predictable. So mine are typically set to Highly Skilled or Expert as it adds a level of unpredictability and comedy to the game.

I do like that the drivatars make mistakes but feel they make too many. When you are in forth and end up in the lead solely due to drivatar errors it is excessive.

I’ve seen this happen before on the Moments in Motorsport event where you use the 50s and 60s Le Mans cars (don’t remember the name). There was about 3 Lotus Elevens just chillin’ there at the barricade.

Similar to what others have said, I don’t think the AI can see the new fake barriers. They’re programmed to stay on the track as much as possible, but if they go off, they’ll try to take the easiest path back to the track which sometimes means cutting, but they can’t see that there’s a massive wall blocking that path.

Hopefully they do a track by track corner cutting patch for MP. Yas, LM Bugatti, Silverstone (and many more) all have 2 or more problem areas. Nothing worse than doing a 5+ lap race where the top drivers are all racing clean when that one guy has to cut on the last lap.

Here’s video footage of this happening to me.

Made me laugh more than it should have!

I’ve seen a similar thing at Road America, where every lap half the field run wide onto the back straight and go straight into the barrier. Sometimes they recover themselves and sometimes they just stay there for the rest of the race!
