What is Shepard? It’s a variation of Cat & Mouse that started on the days of Forza Motorsport 4. When People moved onto the Xbox One and the new Forza games, people kept the spirit of Shepard alive in small numbers (including myself)
The premise is simple:
A field of C class cars (anything goes) races among themselves. Depending on the size of the C class field, you have 1-3 cat cars which are S class, they also have zero restrictions. Usually all sorts of heavy, AWD monsters were built as a result. The cat cars target the C class car that’s in first place only, however there’s no rule against the C class cars causing mayhem themselves. It was always a hilariously good time.
Forza Motorsport 5 & 6 were not the same as Motorsport 4 as far as crash physics go. While Motorsport 7 had it’s fair share of issues, the crash physics and the rollover physics made Shepard have the spirit of Motorsport 4 again.
Recently Forza Motorsport 7 had a major update with “Collision Assist” with revised crash physics and it pretty much took all the fun out of Shepard. These two compilation videos are a nice reminder of a fun mode ruined by Turn 10’s awful attempt to stop griefers/wreckers in lobbies.
Shepard had a good run, considering it lasted from 2012 to near the end of 2018. I’ll miss playing this mode, Turn 10 nerfed the crash physics so much that the entertainment of the game mode is non existent. :c
