Road America Drivatars on Steroids

For the record, I’ll start by pointing out that I’m not very good, at least compared to most on this forum. If you need a reference point, my best time on the recent bounty hunt was about 2:28 and change. So, yes, I was Barney Fife on a bounty hunt. Having said that, I’ve noticed something and wondered if anybody else noticed it, too:

In the career mode, I’m trying to gold medal all of the races that came up with the Road America add-on. I’m racing pro Drivatars with only TCS as an assist (did I mention the “not very good” part?) I can get gold on most races, although it may take work on some. The one exception is the one I tried on the actual Road America. Not only can I not get gold, I don’t even medal. In fact, I’m usually dead last. And, it’s not like I haven’t raced Road America – see Fife, Barney.

Yes, I know – “race more, practice, etc…” I get that. It’s just weird, that’s all. I’m wondering if maybe the Drivatars on Road America are stacked because it is a new track and generally the better racers have attacked it. Anybody else see the Drivatars killing it on Road America compared to the other tracks?

Curious to hear thoughts. Thanks for listening. I’ll go back to polishing the bullet in my shirt pocket.

I think we all have tracks like this. My nemisis right now is Bathurst in the rally cars. I’m only racing on expert with an auto tranny and I can never get better than 6th in either my STI or Evo VIII. I’ve been trying to tune the cars and so on but that track just beats me so bad. Oh well, going to move on and try to finish the rest of the tracks then come back and practice like a mofo.

If you want to get faster then 1st thing you want to do is ditch that auto box! Even running manual with no clutch will see your times drop massively. I dont know what class you are tuning the Scoob or Evo in but I can point out if you are using the 1.6ltr Rally turbo engine and auto box then you will suffer greatly as the car needs to be short shifted far earlier than the AI will shift.

About what RPM does it need to be shifted? Learning where to down shift to in the corners aside I had also tried manual last night and didn’t see much performance increase. Still placed 6th.
