Reduce GT Race Duration for Better Engagement

As a content creator and livestreamer, I’ve noticed that the current 20-minute race duration in the GT category of Forza Motorsport can feel repetitive for viewers and exhausting for streamers. Many of my audience members, as well as other players, have shared the same feedback.

In comparison, Assetto Corsa limits GT races to around 7 laps, which keeps the gameplay dynamic and engaging. Based on my experience and daily interactions with my community, an ideal race length for Forza Motorsport’s GT category would be around 7 laps or a maximum of 15 minutes. Most players today are casual, and shorter, fast-paced races tend to be more enjoyable for them.

This isn’t just my personal opinion; it’s the feedback from many players and viewers who follow my streams. Implementing a shorter race duration could improve the overall experience, making the game more exciting and accessible.

I’d love to hear what others think about this suggestion. Do you feel the current GT race duration should be adjusted?

Thanks!

Medium used to be 15 minutes and then it got extended to 20

I think the same.
The current format is either too long or too short (TCR with 8 minutes). And for a couple of races a day it may be valid, but to make people play it more not. Although I would add the 15 minutes without eliminating the 20-30 minutes, and simply rotate weekly.

A few days ago I created a similar post.

So here’s where i stand on this…

If you’re going to revert the race distance back to it’s original length, you’re gonna have to consider what that will do to the tire strategy. When it was increased from 15 to… i think it was 18 minutes first (or did we immediately jump to 20 ?) for medium length races, i think everyone underestimated the impact this would have on this small but EXTREMELY important detail.

So in order to stop another potential wave of no-stop hard races, let’s also consider the tire wear multiplier. If i were to make that call in the suggestion that you are making, the multiplier needs to go back to x6 across all lobbies. This will make tire choices in GT races much more consistent on all tracks from my experience and as a bonus, it will also restore the open class lobbies’ tire compound war (i always prefered having one build useable for both short and long distance races with sport tires being a universal solution).

This all being said, i’d like some of the more knowledge players to give insight on what a 15min race would look like in terms of strategy options on x4 wear on multiple tracks. That way we at least have some data to help the discussion.

Another thing, changing this back to 15min will probably also start another wave of people saying the races are too short again until we get in a endless cycle of adjusting things and not solve anything.

Arguably, i really think the best thing to do now is to just leave the race distance length alone.

4x is already almost a no-stop Hard over 20 minutes.

Reducing that to 15 minutes would make 4x an easy no-stop Hard.

4x is also a no-stop Soft in Short (8 min), and with Hard having double the tyre wear of Soft, 4x should last about 16 minutes.

You can loosely math it out as the following then:

  • 1x Soft = 32 minutes
  • 1x Medium = 48 minutes
  • 1x Hard = 64 minutes

Your ideal balance is a race where Medium/Medium and Hard/Soft are both viable, which works out at around double the Medium’s tyre life. That’s 96 minutes at 1x, so if you have a 15 minute race you want 5x or 6x to be the tyre strategy. If race length is 20 minutes, then you should probably have 5x wear.

Come to think of it, if all of Featured Multiplayer ran 5x tyre wear, I think it would add a little more strategic variety than we have now, even in the Short races.
