Rear View Mirror 5-12-14

First off, I will watch golf carts race if that’s the only race on lol

In regards to Mercedes dominace in F1, it can be looked at in a few ways. I personally like to view it as the beginning of the next stage of performace evolution. Meaning other manufacturers will need to raise the performace level to catch up. It is the same in all levels of racing. As Henry Ford once said, the first race happened 15 seconds after the 2nd car was built.

I missed all other races over the weekend. My main series I follow is now the Tudor series. I was a huge follower of the ALMS and to a smaller degree the Rolex Grand Am series. Watching both in person at my home track at Road America last year was a very cool way to see both series in the weekend. Now this year will be interesting to watch the constant tweeking to level the DP and P2 cars tryingt o balance each other. Still not a huge fan of the buyout but what are you going to do?

Nascar, Go JR!
Indy 500, never miss it. Started watching in the mid 80s and was hooked. Still on my bucket list to see in person.

The drag race Smart car is fun, I like to see the cool to plain goofy things folks do with a race car. One of the reasons LEMONS and Chumpcars are just plain fun to watch and compete in.

as always I spell great but can’t type worth a darn. sorry for typos.

Hello!
First I would like to thank the weekly news! since here bo Brazil access to racing is hard!
So their news are clear and quick way to give it a whirl in the racing world! The formula 1 is the only race trasnmitida nascinalmente, and the return of competitive cars brought cheer to watch it, however if you change your pilot in monopolization of the podium is evident that loses the excitement! as the other races I’m still learning! Now the Smart Drag show was: I have a D in forza 4! so do not have to roll over protection in drag: D

thank you

This weekend I saw the F1 race.
Unfortunately, also this year the competition seems already marked: after red bull recent years dominance, is now the turn of the silver arrows; I’m Italian and I have ferrari in my heart, but also this year will be a disaster for the red cars…
For me it is another uninteresting F1 championship yet , for years penalized by absurd regulations that change continuously; the real f1 died years ago, the actually one is only a sad surrogate :frowning:
Fortunately, I also saw Superbike italian round (yes, you live also has two wheels  ): good race for an always interesting competition! Imola circuit is always one of the best circuits ever!

good, I watched part of the race f1 on Sunday, and we can say that the vettel is getting his share of glory last year because he is doing very well in comparison of the first gp’s, and Felipe Massa has acknowledged that his car is to earn points and no podium. the car is at the top of the page is a modified Beetle parts Rolls Royce.

personnel, hello I forgot to finish the post, I want a mazda rx-7 unicorn car, gamertag: xikinho muller. thank you!

Hi John,

I saw the F1 Race in Catalunya live on TV and I must agree Brigante1979 .
The Formula 1 today has lost the Tension and his Spirit.
For over 15 Years I was watching every Race on TV to see the Fights between Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill or Jaques Villeneuve and others, but now it is boring.
An Example are the new Engines, their Sound is ridiculous. This is not the Sound of the Formula 1 !!

To answer your first question, I try to watch my racing live, but most often I actually watch it at work. I work overnights for a security company, so our main form of entertainment is TV, and my co-worker and I share a passion for racing, so we set almost every racing program to be recorded on the DVR. As for the car in the rear view, I honestly don’t have a clue.

There’s honestly so much to comment on about this article that I’m just going to pick one piece and spout off a few words about it.

Now, on to the fun stuff. I’m not really bothered by Mercedes performance this year at all. I mostly care about the drivers, and their performance, not necessarily the performance of the manufacturers, therefore I’m not rooting for, or against them. I’m rooting for the excitement of racing. About the race though, or rather the track, Catalunya is one of my favorite tracks. It’s easily one of the best “all-rounders.”

I guess I could comment about NASCAR too, since I actually watched most of that race (don’t usually bother to watch much NASCAR anymore). Danica, Danica, Danica… How I hate to love to hate this woman. A lot of people just say “She’s got no talent, she doesn’t belong” blah blah blah, but I disagree. She does belong, and she has more than just talent… she has POTENTIAL. Danica is going to be racing for a long time, so the nay-sayers and haters are just going to have to get used to it. She’s great for the sport, and I can’t wait to see where she ends up a few years down the line.

Anyway, great article, even if I didn’t comment on all of it (it was a lot)!

I found the fabulous Grand Prix Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton show that he had the talent and the doublet Mercedes proves that this brand still has the resource in Formula 1.
A small disappointment for Ferrari and Raikonen.

My favorite is the Grand Prix Monaco it is technical and very difficult especially to double an opponent.

I have not had the opportunity to follow the Nascar sprint cup and indy car series, because I do not have the possibility of broadcast channels in my country.

To conclude on the SMART she is an honorable 11.74. Like what I would look for another look this little car.

I try to watch as much as I can live but I usually end watching rebroadcasts and youtube videos of the races. I watch most of the well known series and some not very well known series. I love racing and I am always a little sad that I can’t drive most of their cars in Forza5. Like I would love to drive the new dp cars or the gtlm cars. I would love to see more racecars in the game.

Hey John great read on the RVM as always. I watch my racing in many different kinds of ways. sometimes live(at the bar with my buddies), and sometimes DVRed but most on the internet. I don’t really follow F1 much, I’m mostly into drag racing and off road racing. But being a major gearhead , I really enjoy reading your RVM’s to keep up to date on all the other forms of racing that I don’t watch on a regular basis. Now that Mercedes has been on top for so long, I would really like to see another manufacturer de-throne Mercedes consistently not just a race here and a race there. That smart car was so ugly and so stupid I just don’t know why anyone would build one. Its actually not that fast as drag cars go but it almost looked like an old T-Bucket or Gasser style chassis with the Smart car body on it. I don’t know if you heard the announcer but he even wired the reverse lights up (But why?) To each there own I guess. Like I said great read and I look forward to the next one as I have missed the past couple weeks due to the inability to get on the computer. As always thanks for the great read and the opportunity.

I do watch racing live, John, I live 40 minutes away from the only permanent race track here in Ireland. There’s a good mix of cars, though the economy has impacted the numbers, especially the Formula Libre class with anything from Radicals, to Formula 3000 cars, to Formula Renault 2.0 cars and much more. Still though, there’s good racing from the Volkswagen Beetle engined Formula Vee class (right up your street, knowing you!) and the Irish built Rover powered Formula Sheane cars have good racing too.

We also have the Leinster Trophy, which in the past has been won by Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and many more, though in the last 10-15 years, it hasn’t turned out as the International event it once was.

The Formula Libre race there was 2011, but Stanley Watson (the Magic Bullet driver who was interviewed) now has a Formula 3000 car with a 5.9 litre Chevy NASCAR engine! Is spits flames and sounds great. What more could you want as a spectator?

I know this is a bit of an essay, but thanks for reading it,
AMG 568.

And as for watching racing live on television? Every race I watch live though I had other commitments for the Spanish GP so I watched the first hour before having to leave. Watched the recording though on Monday morning.

The Smart car was one wild looking little thing. But a super clean bit of kit. The combination didn’t seem dialed in yet, almost as if they just finished putting it together. The big block seemed like a lightly built engine. But once it’s sorted it should run some nice times. Probably in the 10.90 range.

Thanks for the RVM!

This is a great way to get up to date on racing. In regards to your question about seeing a real life track that is available on forza 4, it is awesome because of the driver relationshipship created in the game. Knowing the corners and how I get around them and watching the guys racing them for real is pretty fantastic to watch.
Thanks for all the hard work.

To answer the first question, i will watch the F1 GP live but much of the other stuff i play catch up when i get chance, (late night On demand and on line) But i also count on you to update me on the stuff icant watch such as the drift racing etc. I have got to say i love the monaco GP such a tight winding circuit.
Enjoyed the BTCC from Thruxton, and my favorite car is anything Jason Plato is driving  I find those types of races facinating and always have followed it since i was lucky to see it live in the late 80’s at Brands Hatch

Just looked at the smart car video, Awesome something i didnt think i would see

Hello,
Nice article! I watch F1 on Sky news saying who won it. I like it better than watching it all just to see who won. I’d much rather race myself.
As for the smart, I wonder what people would do next to their cars.

For Forza 4, please.

For those of you trying to guess the car in the RVM thumbnail, it is not a Celica.

Keep guessing.

Happy Tuesday folks, and thanks for all the feedback on my questions.

John

Hello, I watch NASCAR mostly but sometimes i watch F1. I would choose Forza Motorsport over Need For Speed and the other racing games. I do not have time to watch the live videos because i am busy with many things, I do not get on forums often and it is rare for me to even be on here. Carl Edwards has won recently in NASCAR which is good because he needed that win. I do not know much about F1 though.

With the big amount of sports events we have available at the click of button it’s hard to watch all the races, that’s why the RVM is necessary for me to stay in touch with what’s going around in motorsport world, I like to watch the races live, even though they require a lot of time, and the art to do something else while the commercials are on, mostly I watch Nascar, and Indy 500, I miss the F1 races, because I don’t have NBC sports or Speed in my TV package, recently I’m watching the NBA playoffs, so if there is any race I like I’ll record it in DVR and watch it later, thanks John for the races resume and Video highlights, concerning the “so wrong video” it made me laugh, great idea, it may serve the tire sponsor get attention and publicity, the only negative part is that they made the smart car look ugly and stupid
